Alright guys (and gals!), the site is up and running. No lessons available yet, but some reading can be done, it will explain how the LET lessons will work, how they are built, how you can purchase it, etc. There are some other cool features also, and the forum is available. Here's the address: http://LeadingEdgeTraining.us And don't forget to scroll down on the frontpage, it seems it's easy to get caught up on the screenshots... :). Thanks for everyone's patience, this is a major milestone on our way to providing the best DCS training available anywhere!2 points

There was at least a third type. In the Western world it is only known as "Caspian Sea Monster". It was similar to the Lun, but it wasn't a missile plattform. Supposedly it was a cargo plane, probably for "amphibious" attacks. Rumors say it could have lifted up to 1'000 tons (including its own weight of some 500 tons). Check this link for pics and videos.2 points

I really dont think the issue is thinking 30 bucks is too much. Enough with the "well I would gladly pay 100$ for it" comments, because they totally miss the actual issue. The issue (at least from my perspective) was that it WAS 15$ and now changed to 30$. Go on as much as you want that the price was "subject to change", truth is, the price of pre-released games is often times the most accurate information regarding a game. When the price is unknown they generally apply the basic pricing point for what is expected. However Day 0 announcement FAQ said it was 15$. Thus the price wasn't unknown. I call shenanigans on it being "Subject to change" I'll still probably buy it, I just cant figure out why the decision to make it 30$ wasn't made before the announcement when the project was already running over schedule and probably over budget. Btw, 30USD is the going rate of modestly priced expansions. So quit calling this a new game and realize what it is. Its what it should have been to begin with. There is still no excuse for saying it will cost 15$ and deciding later on to make it 30$.2 points

Any particular reason why everyone is eagerly encouraging ED to make their products more expensive? :no_sad: Maybe you folks have cash to burn (or mommy's cash to burn), but I work for a living. Let's stick with $30.2 points

Yes we are getting close. Last 48 hours testing with a break of 2 hours to watch F1 and 6 hours to have a kip. With all the new avionic and missile Ai, etc etc, this is a non-trivial task compared to testing the latest console game which a kid can do in 4 hours!2 points

Status April 2012: A brand new video with a joint operations with me and another crazy pit builder from my Squad. Hope you like it. Status December 2011: Video with BS2 and new features added in my pit. All the best to you guys for 2012! Status November 2011: Upgrade to BS2 and now the NVG bug in multiscreen is corrected (and NVG itself much improved), it was time for my pit to get also slightly upgraded for night flights! Detail on the right panel where I used an array of 12V blue leds strip: Status September 2011: Switched from BSVP to Helios from SC Simulations. This allowed me not only to get rid of my secondary networked PC, but also to display all gauges on the front panel as well as a working EKRAN. Eventhough only one PC have to run 6 screens at the same time, I am still getting 30+ fps with SIOC still running in the background to manage the leds (thanks to Gadroc for his help on this). New demo video: And one picture: Status March 2011: All leds now working in game. Cougar replaced by Warthog stick. Aluminum plates added for the floor. Better integration of the collective. Complete re install of DCS BS increased fps from 15 to 30. Don't know why, but that's really cool. New video added. (The copyright free version) Pit status on the 9th of August 2010. Hi BS fans and pit builders. I have been working for some time now on this project since BS has been available. This is my first pit and I though BS was the perfect sim to work on. First it is extremely realistic, secondly the Ka-50 cockpit is still very analogic oriented and as such, a little bit easier to build than a latest generation cockpit with fully integrated avionics and such. Finally, having the possibility to assign almost every single switch to a joystick button and being able to display ABRIS and SKVAL on separate screens proved that ED was clearly pit builder minded when they developped this fantastic sim. I had though to bet on the future of this sim, as, although inputs are easy to implement, there is nothing about outputs yet (leds, parameters and so on). I do hope that the dev will keep their word by allowing some easy data export in a future patch or dev package release. I want my pit to be as realistic as possible, but I wont go as far as Triggerhappy for example and CMC machining parts and buttons. This will be far too expensive and I have no talent for this. So I had sometimes to make some tradeoffs as I couldn't get everything I want for the parts in electronic shops. Talking about Triggerhappy, many many thanks and all credits to him for the blueprints and drawing he posted on this forum. It was extrmely precious for me to start this project. First of all, I started to build the left console: Every buttons and lever are functional but some switches for the ADF as I used Leo Bodnar's USB board for the wiring and it is limited to 32 inputs. This limitation keeps bugging me by the way and I still have to sacrifice some switches that I don't use for the sake of this limitation. I used some MON-OFF-MON switches for the radio frequencies (could'nt find anything looking like the real thing). As for the display of these frequencies, I have some other plan to display them.:D1 point

EDIT/UPDATE 11.06.2010: Since I started the work on the map (see the original first post below this update) till the final version there has been a lot of work. You can find the list of upgrades/changes since the beginning in the next two posts: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?...0&postcount=98 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?...&postcount=132 The final version of the map is available for purchase here: http://fighter-collection.com/pages/tfc/flight%20simulation/index.php and for download in high resolution png file here: http://www.mediafire.com/?gyj44wnmdiz Very useful additional information on how to laminate and use the map here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=923030&postcount=1 THE ORIGINAL FIRST POST \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ Recently I’ve started working on printable 1:500000 scale chart that is covering DCS and FC2 area. My plan is to print it and cover it with plastic foil so you can draw and write on it with marker which is then easy erasable with alcohol. I was inspired by the announced integration of both DCS and FC in multiplayer with FC2.0. Then I imagined how it would be like to fly in a co-op mission where you have real guys flying fighters, strikers and attack helicopters. Imagine having a pair of Ka-50s flying scout role on the front line, and having flight of Su-25Ts or A-10s waiting on strip alert to be called in. Fighters are providing cover all the time. And if you are in that Ka-50 and you spot a large enemy armor formation coming towards our borders, how would you call those strikers? In Ka-50, and (hopefully soon) in A-10C you have GNSS, INS, moving map, so you can be very precise with locating the enemy’s position. But how to pass the information to those strikers which doesn’t have any of those NAV devices. And possibly they have predetermined flight route that they can’t change in flight. And if you go with “Large group coming in from east, just passing north of Bagdati”, it is question how many of us know the terrain so well that they would know where to go. And even if you know where Bagdati is, would you be able to find it visually if you take off from Sukhumi, and you have to fly low level due to enemy fighters and AD. Therefore I made this chart in order to eliminate that DCS/FC “navigational” gap. Now if you are Su-25T pilot waiting for call, and you receive coordinates from scout Ka-50s, you can easily draw your target’s location on the printed chart, and if you have predetermined route loaded in your NAV system, just look for your closest WP, measure heading and distance from it, and it will be easy to navigate to the target area. Off course, this is all applicable for servers that have disabled map and external views. The chart itself is made of large number of screenshots, all joined together. I have tried to represent the Earth’s curve as it is IRL. Then I added Geodetic and MGRS grids. MGRS system is not checked for precision! I have decided to include it because I believe it will be present in DCS A-10C. Practically, this chart is a representation of real life TPCs (example). I didn’t try to invent anything. There are just few things that are different here with the real life TPC. Then I added cities, villages, airports, NDBs, peaks, borders, river names, lake names… the result is here. I'm attaching lower resolution version here ~4000x3100pixels. If you think it would be good to have this chart, after I finish it I will attach full version (~16000x12000pixels). 500k low res (~6MB) What I want to add on the chart are some good visual reference objects (for better orientation) like: -Comms Towers -TV Towers -Large factory complexes outside of the cities -Oil platforms The problem is that I don’t know how to find all of them. Maybe there is some file that have list of all of those objects with their coordinates, but I’m not sure. So, if someone knows where or how to find them, I would be very grateful. And it would be nice if someone could double-check precision of the Geodetic grid. I have tried on several locations on different places of the chart, and I think it is very precise. Just be aware that chart is made relative to coordinates IN game, not in the ME. I’m open for any suggestions. S!1 point

Meh. Carping about spending a few ££ on something that will most likely keep you entertained for years to come is pointless and counterproductive. Basically, and I don’t want to sound condescending here, it is a buyer’s market, so, if you don’t want to buy the product at the price offered, then don’t. ED will soon know whether their small price hike has had a detrimental effect on sales pretty quickly. IMO $30 is a tiny price to pay for this sim as I have come back to LOMAC again and again over the years since its release. There are no other games so old on my HD. Period. To me, that speaks volumes as I have spent £100’s over the years on games that have gone on eBay within a week, (and I am looking at Silent Hunter V speculatively right now). The consensus on these forums is overwhelmingly positive but money talks. We will see when FC2.0 is launched. Personally, I will not hesitate. As McDaniel pointed out, how many other sims are imminent? Count them. How many fingers are you holding up?:harhar:1 point

Oohh Please!!! :music_whistling: Come on guy's, dont start the pricediscussion! I cant believe some of you feel like paying to much for this.... ED/Wags/Oleg Maddox and very few others giving us the best Simulators on our desktop! We as community HAVE to support them in every single way! :smartass: Myself, I rather dont buy any shooter like Battlefield Bad Company 2 or some other mainstream stuff and I will be very happy to spend my money for DCS products! Why do have so many people a hard time to see the potential of those products??? Hey think about the DCS A-10C, its like a dream come true for me, and I played almost every simulator since 1990 ( damn thats 20 years!!!)!!! SUPPORT OUR BELOVED HOBBY!!! I don't understand you people. ED goes: "it will be available early 2010 for 15 dolars". And everyone goes "yey" Than ED goes: "it will be out later and will be twice as much expensive". And people go "yey, yey" My true opinino as a customer: I'm not happy with that change. Its not like i can't afford it. I could, even if it was 130 dollars but it is not the point. People go: " Iwould get it even for 60 bucks". Well, ED wont make their money from few maniacs, product gotta sell a lot of copies to make reasonable profit. I bought basic LO in a shop for something like 5-7 dollars. Then i bought FC for some 15 bucks, but improvement was huge, so did'nt hesitate. If i'm to pay another 30 green ones, FC 2.0 its gotta be trully FC 2.0 not just FC 1.13 just called 2.0. What will happened, its a lot of people, including myself, will not buy it at start. I will wait for opinions to decide if its worth its price. To get more revenue ED should drop price to 15 bucks and sell 2-3, maybe 4 times more copies of it. I will wait... Hope i will have to eat my own words ;)1 point

Don't release early with bugs. Take your time please. If ED feels warranted to increase price, what would people rather? Have ED keep the price low, lose money and we possibly see no more from them? It is not like flight sims are falling off trees. I will support to the best of my ability. Also, I think 2 is feature frozen, so why ask?1 point

I guess it was discovered in last minute that some nuts on the BTR-70 rear axle hubs were M20 instead of M24? Time and money discussion? I'll give 100 USD if SAM and damage models were fixed, and even more if it will be playable in multiplayer. Under playable, I mean stable and reliable and easy to connect as IL2 at least. Time and money? Comparing to cars? There is some competition in vehicle industry. ED has no (professional) competition for decades. Expensive or cheap? If you are willing to pay more, feel free to donate into a fund for people from midworld countries. If Russians will have to pay lower again on account of some raccoon excuse, that sucks more then any price raise. Maybe so, but I have pay-tv, cigarettes or booze AS WE TYPE/READ this ;)1 point
-
Yeah GhostDog, very funny, I did notice that, but thought I would let it slide. (Corrected). steve: I care, and ED should care. It looks glaringly unprofessional. It's like my Tai Chi teacher who's second language is English, he put out these emails and presentations that are terribly worded for his business. I have offered to correct them for him, but he takes offence. Some second language speakers do not realise the repercussions and the impression that this makes - it looks really bad...1 point

+1 $30 is cheap, really cheap considering the development time, quality of the product and your likely long term enjoyment out of it.1 point
-
I take issue with the fact that with the original announcement the price was stated to be 15 USD only to be doubled much later on. I don't think many would have minded if it started at 30 and stayed there, but to increase the price tag after its well advertised seems sketchy for me. After all you announced the project a few months after it had already ran over schedule, you knew the condition it was in, you could have guessed how much longer it was gonna take. I understand that the development cycle was way longer than originally anticipated, but seriously, quit reading the "How to make Games" book by 3D Realms. It's obviously a bad example to inspire your production cycle.1 point

The reliability of a retail price announcement is usually higher than that of a release date, but only because of that, it is not important at all to keep that "promise". Have you ever seen a car tagged at a price close to what they announced it would cost when they announced the development? When ED/TFC says it's now 30.- instead of 15.- and by that we only cover the costs, that's justified. If PMDG calls up €55.- for a single aircraft MSFS add-on (MD-11), that price is justified because of the quality and the sytem depth. If ED said they wanted 50.- per FC2 copy to hire 5 new programmers to speed up DCS development, that would also be justified. Everyone should think about their total flying hours of fun in that game and compare it to the price of a CoD:MW2 with its 8 hours SP content. Even if LO/DCS would cost 100.- per year to play online, it would still be a bargain compared to what one spends for and gets from pay-tv, cigarettes or booze...1 point

So to reward us all with the longer than announced release, they are charging us more because they feel that their time in developing and adding extra content (we have yet to see or judge) should justify a 100% price increase. I am sorry, but this stinks and the timing of the announcement ie just before launch, STINKS. I am quite lucky to be able to afford this without any inconvenience, but I will not be purchasing it or any other DCS release from now on as this way of handling business is truly criminal. I have loved every release you guys have made and have happily purchased the games and accompanying manuals with gusto, but this is a sorry state of affairs. I look forward to hear how the community receives your timely announcement. I am sure many will happily pay top dollar for this no doubt awesome add on, but will they be truly happy with the way it has been handled? I will let their conscience decide. I never thought I would post a derogatory post about DCS on any forum, I am truly p****d off with this announcement.:cry:1 point

Outstanding job! Thank you for your dedication and sharing its result with the community. Although you might already know that, the Beacon locations can be found in "(...)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Scripts\World\Radio". Maybe that helps at least for the Radio stations/towers. The only Oilrigs I found at first glance were offshore from SOCHI and have the following coords, according to the mission editor: 43 32 15 N : 39 43 25 E 43 33 26 N : 39 40 25 E First choice for coord gathering would be the raw data itself, if this does not work for some reason, we could maybe collect the data one "mapunit" (grid square, major city, etc...) at a time? Just a suggestion, but with enough people it might be doable? :helpsmilie:1 point
