  4. 51st PVO Regiment Server: Back to the 80's! This week (May 16th to 23rd), the 51st PVO Regiment Server will go back to the 80's! Our missions will be set during the 1980's, at a time when air-to-air fights were fought with medium ranged semi-active missiles such as the R-27R and the AIM-7. This week, you can test your skills against your opponents using R-27R's, R-27T's, R-73's, AIM-7's and AIM-9's. Players will not be allowed to use the E-versions (R-27ER, R-27ET, R-27EM), the R-77 or the AIM-120B or C. Our missions will run special versions where the default payloads are adapted to fit the weapon restrictions. Players that violate the weapon restrictions will be automatically kicked from the server, but will be allowed to rejoin. Note that our stats page will keep track of all offenders. 5. Been playing DCS A-10C lately, and I want to get back into black shark. Haven't played BLack Shark since July of 2009. I started playing BS again with my X52, as my Warthog is due to come any day now, sort of as a tearful bye bye :) to my X52. So any way, I am picking up the Black Shark just fine, I am in fact, playing it better than I did in 2009. I can enter a hover just fine ( although it takes time and practice ) I can trim just fine ( using combination of discreet press/release and hold it down method ) but I always seem to sideslip to the left when I am in forward flight. I've tried using right rudder and left cyclic, but it doesn't seem to work. Am I doing it wrong or something? Overall great sim, but just one tiny little prick. Thanks!

  6. Thumbs up:  Never been so excited since Jane`s F-15 Awesome graphics. Incredible detailed aircraft. High res 16:9 with no more coin sized pixel when zoomed in. Runs great with no stutter in general. Enough stuff to keep you occupied (learn and hone your skills) for months and probably keep you learning until gold release. Jawdropping complex - but still seems to be simulated in detail. Great flight sim as it is -just flying around and making holes in the sky. Perfect dynamics. Just try to taxi off tarmac into the dirt with nosewheel and up again. Watch tire struggle and skidding to get back. Great forum with instant help when you cry for :helpsmilie: Frustration:  None of the Shooting Gallery, target practice missions load. Have to practice bombing buildings in a free fly scenario - or jump into the battle heat. Some important training missions does not load. Training missions with bugs. Missing training mission gives holes in knowledge and leads to frustration that exceeds pleasure of learning in some areas. Some places with heavy stutter. ...................... Final: To enjoy this A10 beta in all its glory, with all its systems go - you must have more than average knowledge of aircraft/weapon/avionics. If you gave up Black Shark or find Lock On or M$ flightsim difficult, this beta is not for you, wait for final edition with all the training running. If you think you can jump in to page 500 and read Combat Preparation :book:a long weekend and then takeoff for some casual bomb drop - you will certainly have a nasty surprise. They will be stuck on the rails.:joystick: Final conclusion: Is beta3 worth $60? YES! Love the :smartass: and :pilotfly: and :joystick: and :book: and

  7. just curious, in real-life, in a chaotic air fight, if a pilot is shot down by a missile fired by a friendly aircraft, can he know the missile was from a friendly aircraft? assuming the positions of aircrafts from both sides are mixed altogether, and if the AWAC is not watching the missiles.

  8. Well, considering that humans are crooked, not symmetrical and will walk in circles if blind folded cause one leg is shorter than the other, are imperfect making mistakes all the time, using imperfect materials to make components for the KA50 that was designed by imperfect people and then are using an imperfect person to assemble the flawed, imperfect parts into a complete helicopter. Then an imperfect pilot gets in and reads an imperfect gauge and trys to fly a perfectly straight line or make a perfect turn:lol::lol::lol: That's just too rich, heck they are lucky the thing even gets off the ground without coming apart:megalol::megalol::megalol:

  9. MAD ... Ordered CNC electronics and hardware from buildyourcnc.com (thanks to all the CNC-wielding folks around here, and weeks of debate with myself) ... no indication that they got my order (other than shipping notification - great, right?). But then the package comes and it's just the hardware and plans - no electronics. Had to ask a couple times for an update, finally got word that the components were backordered and hadn't cleared customs. Asked for them to make it right, hoped for maybe an option to substitute an upgraded option or something ... no response again, until I sent another follow-up asking them to make it right or cancel my order and give me a refund. Individual's response to that was immediate, to the tune of "if that's what I want." Am I being unreasonable?

  10. Target magnification was a brilliant concept then, and still is. Much better than labels. You have to get back to 1:1 at quite a distance though, or it really screws with your perception of depth. I consider labels an acceptable crutch. I also fly in real life, including firewatch missions, and some things are a lot easier to spot in real life than in DCS:A-10. That would include tank-size objects in the open and other aircraft (usual caveats apply on the latter). Then again, some things you will just not see from the air. Infantry is one of those. Tanks and vehicles in forested areas, or hiding in treelines? You'd have to be very lucky. Stationary tanks in sparsely wooded areas? Maybe. If they start moving, your chances will be good. Moving vehicles off paved roads are usually a dead giveaway due to the dust plumes. Anything moving makes life a whole lot easier. Then theres spotting and seeing/reacquiring. Spotting something is hard, but once you know it's there it is a lot easier to see it. It is also a lot easier to locate a certain spot on the ground again in IRL than it is in DCS, due to more irregular ground, peripheral vision as you are turning giving you better situational awareness and higher visual acuity than a computer monitor can render. Ideally, labels would: - Have varying levels of transparency depending on how visible the object is estimated to be. - Change in clarity depending on the object, its surroundings and its actions. A tank steaming across an open field on a dry day would have a clearly visible dot label quite far out. A stationary BMP hiding in forest would have no label until you are within hundreds of meters. If it starts moving, this distance would increase. - Be clearer once you have reasonably spotted them. They'd start out very vague (according to the previous point) and then increase in contrast as you approach. Then they would ever so slowly fade, meaning you have an easier time reacquiring the target you are making repeated runs on on each successive run. Get close once, and the label stays clearly visible until you have left the vehicle alone for some time. - Only turn from a dot to a proper label once you are within range to actually tell what kind of vehicle it is. - Have different levels of label. From dot to vehicle to tracked vehicle to tank to T-80 in succession as you are getting closer. - Have the option of toggling between dots only, no labels and complete labels. ... ...

  11. I agree with Bucic's assessment; it seems to me that in an A/C with asymmetric lift, flying coordinated (velocity vector is aligned with nose heading) means flying at a constant bank angle, which means that the ball will be pulled to the side by gravity. What's our error here?

  19. Hi, this thread is interesting, and i will try to explain my point(soryy for my english) I think that the most realistic way would be to magnify the target. For example, if the ground target is at 3 mils, and not visible at our screen (but must be in RL) ED must magnify the target x1.5 or x2. In that way we don't need to use zoom or label to see the target, in the same way as in RL and we have a better FOV. When we go near the target, the magnify coeff must be reset progressively to x1 Hope you anderstand the idea Thanks

  23. Once you have a lock (wiggling crosshairs locked on the target) press the Weapons Release button (Missile button on your joystick or RAlt-Space) to actually fire it. SOI means Sensor Of Interest. For the MFCDs like the Mav screen it means the one with the green border line around it. For the HUD it's the * on the left side of the HUD. It's what will be controlled by the slew commands and also determines what HOTAS controls do based on SOI. See the charts on page 80+ to see the differences. SPI = Sensor Point of Interest. It's basically your "target". Guided weapons will try to hit there (JDAMS for example) and you can switch all other sensors to it via China Hat Forward Long (hold V). Use TMS Forward Long (hold LCtrl-Up) to make whatever your current SOI "target" to the SPI. So a basic Maverick attack would be something like this: Slew the HUD target box to the general area you want to view (Press U for HUD SOI, slew to move the box, hold LCtrl-UP to make that loc SPI - a little line from the slew box will draw upwards.) Slave your sensors to your new SPI (Hold V, moving the TGP to point where you had marked) then switch to TGP (hold K) then slew the TGP on to your actual target. Set TGP into Point Mode (LCtrl-Up to make the little box appear on the TGP over your target) and move SPI over to it (Hold LCtrl-UP). Next switch to Mav move (press K) and slave it to SPI (Hold V). Now your Mav should be pointing at your TGP target, slew it slightly and it should lock if you're in range and it's contrasted correctly (can also try LCtrl-Up to force lock?). Once locked, weapons release (RAlt-Space) and F6 to watch the show! :) After safely breaking away that is! Sounds like a lot to do, but once you get the hang of it, it's quite quick (with a proper HOTAS that is). If you haven't seen it, I made a map of HOTAS keyboard commands the other night to help visualize what to click when you read HOTAS command like China Aft or something.

  25. Uhm, I don't want to appear to be mean or anything, but you guys do realize that this system has already been cracked? Please stop screwing us customers by putting all this Draconian DRM protection on your games. The truth is, those who want to back you will, and those who don't, won't. Mostly the pirates are poor kids with a lot of time on their hands who never would have bought the game anyway. Others who download the crack bought the game, but want the DRM off (i.e. ME ). So you see, the pirates in reality never cost you a dime. Your just wasting your money on schemes that are so easily cracked. Anyone that can read assembler and work with the registry, can crack DRM with ease. Why not please your customers, and let them play the game, instead of spending all their time fighting the DRM? Their the only ones your causing problems to. The pirates and smart people play your sims DRM free. In other words, the guys at StarFarce are just taking your money and laughing :megalol:. I hope you will stop giving it to them, and put it back into your awesome sims. Those who like your sims will support you.

  26. My goal is to try and make a MP mission that is somewhat similar to how I think Falcon 4 is. For example... Building_x is placed behind enemy lines, and enemy Convoy_x leaves the position of Building_x towards it's targets. If Convoy_x is destroyed and Building_x is alive, Convoy_x's group is re-activated at Building_x and moves towards it's targets again. If Building_x is destroyed and Convoy_x is destroyed, Convoy_x is no longer able to re-activate and the reinforcement loop is broken. I'm not sure how many entities DCS can handle, but if it was many you could sort of create a large mission that would take hours and require many players to complete. You could also do this for airports, sea ports, FARPs, etc. The next step would be adding random positions for the reinforments to go to so you don't allways expect them to go to the same locations. Time is limited for me but maybe someone with time can do this :)

  27. Still, server stats will show you that. Though our stats page is mostly aimed at ranking pilots in their air-to-air and air-to-ground skills, they will also show you how you progress as a pilot. For example, 159th_dOoOm flew on the 51st server tonight and in his Ka-50 he scored 24 air-to-ground kills, earning him 110 points.

  29. First, given the English language first appeared on England and is also the primary language of 35 countries and territories around the world, its not terribly obvious that you are from U.S. just because you speak it. Second, look at my written english and take a guess of where I'm coming from. If you think its from any english-speaking country, you will be very mistaken.

  30. Ahh the piety of purists :-) I know I'm not actually going to persuade anyone here - we're all sitting comfortably in our various camps, but to me I guess it all depends on what you want to be real - if you want it to look real, then labels destroy that. If you want to find target with something approaching the ease / difficulty that would occur in real life, then some kind of minimal label just makes up for the deficiencies of the hardware we're all stuck with. On the day that you get a monitor that gives you 160 degree FOV but still lets you find a plane on the runway at 3km as quickly as you woud with the naked eye, then labels will be cheating. Till then, they add to the reality of the operation, at the same time as they detract from the immersiveness of the image on the screen.

  31. If it takes you five hours to make the connection that TMS forward could be the same as TMS up, then IMO this sim is not for you.. Especially since the three other TMS options make far less sense than up. The first thing I did when I wondered about TMS forward was to check in the options and then controls. Everything is there, just like it is with all the other sims you have flown with your saitek throttle quadrant, your CH flightstick and your rudder pedals. And it took me 0.05 second to think that maybe TMS forward is the same as TMS up, not five hours...
