Status April 2012: A brand new video with a joint operations with me and another crazy pit builder from my Squad. Hope you like it. Status December 2011: Video with BS2 and new features added in my pit. All the best to you guys for 2012! Status November 2011: Upgrade to BS2 and now the NVG bug in multiscreen is corrected (and NVG itself much improved), it was time for my pit to get also slightly upgraded for night flights! Detail on the right panel where I used an array of 12V blue leds strip: Status September 2011: Switched from BSVP to Helios from SC Simulations. This allowed me not only to get rid of my secondary networked PC, but also to display all gauges on the front panel as well as a working EKRAN. Eventhough only one PC have to run 6 screens at the same time, I am still getting 30+ fps with SIOC still running in the background to manage the leds (thanks to Gadroc for his help on this). New demo video: And one picture: Status March 2011: All leds now working in game. Cougar replaced by Warthog stick. Aluminum plates added for the floor. Better integration of the collective. Complete re install of DCS BS increased fps from 15 to 30. Don't know why, but that's really cool. New video added. (The copyright free version) Pit status on the 9th of August 2010. Hi BS fans and pit builders. I have been working for some time now on this project since BS has been available. This is my first pit and I though BS was the perfect sim to work on. First it is extremely realistic, secondly the Ka-50 cockpit is still very analogic oriented and as such, a little bit easier to build than a latest generation cockpit with fully integrated avionics and such. Finally, having the possibility to assign almost every single switch to a joystick button and being able to display ABRIS and SKVAL on separate screens proved that ED was clearly pit builder minded when they developped this fantastic sim. I had though to bet on the future of this sim, as, although inputs are easy to implement, there is nothing about outputs yet (leds, parameters and so on). I do hope that the dev will keep their word by allowing some easy data export in a future patch or dev package release. I want my pit to be as realistic as possible, but I wont go as far as Triggerhappy for example and CMC machining parts and buttons. This will be far too expensive and I have no talent for this. So I had sometimes to make some tradeoffs as I couldn't get everything I want for the parts in electronic shops. Talking about Triggerhappy, many many thanks and all credits to him for the blueprints and drawing he posted on this forum. It was extrmely precious for me to start this project. First of all, I started to build the left console: Every buttons and lever are functional but some switches for the ADF as I used Leo Bodnar's USB board for the wiring and it is limited to 32 inputs. This limitation keeps bugging me by the way and I still have to sacrifice some switches that I don't use for the sake of this limitation. I used some MON-OFF-MON switches for the radio frequencies (could'nt find anything looking like the real thing). As for the display of these frequencies, I have some other plan to display them.:D1 point

Tactical Training Qualification Documentation 2 - Provides User Bars, Badges and Certificates for the Campaign. Backstory: I've searched the forums but couldn't find a reference to this topic so starting a new thread. The training in DCS-A10C is excellent but what I would like to have is a Flight Qualification Campaign that mimics the training and flight quals of what an actual A10 pilot would go through. Each mission would cover a specific training element and to pass you need to succeed with each mission. At the end of the campaign you would be considered qualified to fly the A-10C in combat. I realize this is a game and you can just jump right into a combat mission but given the realism in this sim I would like to pass a formal qualification test before moving onto combat missions. I've done the research and came up with this model: The A-10C Pilot Qualification Course has the following phases Phase 1: Academic Classes and Pre-Flight Training Phase 2: Basic Flight Training Qualification Phase 3: Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification Phase 4: Tactical Training Qualification Phase 1 gives you Initial Qualification Training (IQT) and is a pre-requisite for Phase 2. Hopefully you have completed Phase 1 and are familiar with the A-10C aircraft systems and instruments. If not, please read the A-10C Flight Manual before continuing. Phase 2 gives you Basic Aircraft Qualification (BAQ). It is a pre-requisite for Phase 3. It is recommended that you complete this phase before proceeding to Phase 3. Phase 3 makes you Basic Mission Capable (BMC). It is a pre-requisite for Phase 4. Phase 4 makes you Combat Mission Ready (CMR). This is necessary before proceeding on any real combat missions. Phase 2 - Basic Flight Training Qualification contains: Contact Stage (VFR): 1. Perform Ground Handling 2. Perform Take-Off and EFATO 3. Fly Traffic Pattern 4. Perform Approach and Landing 5. Perform Basic Maneuvers 6. Perform Advanced Handling 7. Perform Aerobatics 8. Respond to Emergencies Instrument / Navigation Stage (IFR): 9. Instrument Approach (Landing) 10. Instrument Flight Plan Navigation Formation Stage: 11. Fly 2 Ship as Wingman Low-Level Stage 12. Fly Low-Level Flight Plan Basic Flight Training Qualification Practice Mission Package is available which provides 12 Single Player missions that feature additional training dialogue and runway or in-air starts. Basic Flight Training Qualification Documentation is available which includes Mission Data Cards, Maps and Diagrams for all 12 missions of the campaign. Basic Flight Training Qualification Documentation 2 - Provides User Bars, Badges and Certificates for the Campaign. Phase 3 - Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification contains: Advanced Flight Training Stage AFT01 - Air to Air Refueling Day AFT02 - Air to Air Refueling Night AFT03 - Countermeasures and Threat Avoidance AFT04 - Target Area Ingress Preparation AFT05 - Illumination Flare Employment Air to Air Combat Stage: AAT06 - AA Gun and Missile Employment Surface Attack Stage: AAT07 - Gun & Rocket Employment AAT08 - Unguided Bomb Employment AAT09 - Guided Bomb Employment AAT10 - Missile Employment Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification Practice Mission Package - Provides 10 Single Player missions that mimic the Campaign qualification missions and feature additional training dialogue and in-air starts. Warning to all those TM Warthog owners who are planning to mod their stick. If you're not VERY careful when re-seating the ball of the stick into the socket joint, you can trap the wires traveling through the slot in the ball. This description should hopefully make sense to anyone who has/will dismantle their stick. Anyway, after relubing the stick, I trapped said wires, stripping insulation off a couple of wires and severing one, resulting in all buttons no longer working. PLEASE be careful. *Curses TM for not lubing the stick properly in the first place* :furious:1 point

As promised here's the tutorial how you configure single switches with TARGET while keeping other buttons default mapping in DCS. First use the attached TARGET-Profile as a sample (you can modify it or create a new one according to your needs). SAMPLE PROFILE When you open the profile you can see, only the Throttle is embedded in this profile. Then, on the next window, you will see the mapped buttons, while all other buttons are mapped as default DX-butons. Thats quite important! You will also notice that the modified buttons are mapped, using two layers. Leave the "Edit configuration" and run the profile! It should then look like the picture below. Now start DCS:A-10C! Go to Options->Controls! You should find a column called "Thrustmaster Combined" (see picture below). Click into a field within this column. Now the "Load Profile"-Button should be highlighted (see picture below). Click it and then load the deafult TMW-Throttle lua-file (see picture below)! Now everything should work like the default Plug&Play configuration, except for the switches you mapped with TARGET. Hope this helps!1 point

Hi all. I am pretty new to this sim, so please have patience with me. I have a problem with understanding the autopilot. When flying on with auto heading enabled, the KA-50 still doesnt go straight ahead. Same problem with autohover. My idea of autohover is that when enabled the KA-50 would stand still over the same spot on the ground with the nose at the same direction. This is pretty hard to accomplish, with my gear and for me atleast. Should I be able to easily accomplish this? Or is hovering harder than pushing a button :-) It is a bit anoying when I want to focus on locking a target to always have to correct the heading. Many thanks in advance1 point

I hope I dont get banned because of this. Just an Idea I thought I'd share with y'all... I got all the vids from DCS and youtube. Using DVDFlick, I made a DVD compilation with a menu for selection. The software comes with a step by step. I merely imported and the software did all the rest... DVD flick here took me 6 hours for the encoding, audio, synch, combination, and finally burning. Showcasing on youtube: Its a good idea, when u have a spare time, or wanna watch the movies, to turn on your DVD player, chuck this in, and hit the couch.. All rookies will find this useful. If my account gets suspended, I'm doing this with good intention, not promoting piracy, since the vids are publicly available online. All I did was put them in an All-in-one container. EDIT: Menu background © Maxim Lysak1 point

What do you mean Viper? I own a Cougar but can't afford to fix it. I put everything om it and it failed me. Stock Cougar-rubbish. I'm not a hater. I own 2 Oriental cats and love 70's prog rock. It's products that you get that you think are amazing and when you get them they are substandard like the Cougar. I love a beer and some jazz or prog. I'm no hater only when you mention the C word. Mine is a number 28,000 something. I took the detents off and now can feel the rubbish pot that resides inside. WORST ....HOTAS.....EVER. Hate Cougars with a passion. Need 1,200 Australian to fix and then you need the skill to do it and the tools which I don't. If I fixed the gimbals and the throttle with hall sensors(lol,I'd stuff it up in no time being someone with depression and useless electronic skills)and labour would be another 500 if I gave it to someone then I'd be praying for the other switches to not fail like the nt elev which feels dodgy on my Cougar now. If you are RICH,go for it. If you are poor and saved all your life, took me a couple of years and then get it broken on arrival,STAY WELL BLOODY CLEAR. THIS THING WILL DESTROY YOUR SOUL. Sorry ,the most overhyped hotas EVER. Mines sitting here on the desk looking at me and when I look back at it,all those cool looks it gives off don't mean a thing when it doesn't work.1 point

I must say that this sim now, without a doubt, has the finest flight model of any sim I've ever had the pleasure to crash in. To think that I used to be amazed at SWOTL...and blown away with the original panning view system of the classic Mac sim HELLCATS OVER THE PACIFIC. Props Wags...and we used to think that the Falcon 3 HiFi *250kts and above* flight model was the bomb...hehe. Well done men...and thank you so very much. -Surf1 point

My 2 dollar skipping rope which I use to get fit and get happier is worth more than the 500 dollar Cougar. THe Cougar killed my simming fun dead. Was playing open falcon 3 years ago getting trained, having loads of fun(hi Naldo and all the great people there),starting to understand it and I thought getting the Cougar would be the logical thing. Got it,didn't work, put 500 readies on it which I didn't really have and was devastated. So much that I gave up simming completely. I couldn't afford to get another hotas and my Saitek x-45 was on it's last legs even though that hotas gave me years of enjoyment. :(1 point

Shu did you ever think of a CH Products Multi Function Panel? I set mine up as a UFC and it works rather well. I just used a fraps screenshot of the UFC and made 2 prints, one as a background, and the second I cut out the buttons and used a Scotch Glue Stick to stick them to the individual buttons. To maintain a workable scale I had to split the UFC in half and put the right half of the UFC on the bottom of the left half. Uploaded with ImageShack.us1 point

I had the G940 and spent more time trying to get it working properly than actually using it. I couldn't get on with the 'slop' around joystick centre either. Some people seem to get on ok with them but it just wasn't for me. Yep, the WH is more expensive but I've tried it with DCS A10 and Rise of Flight and was impressed with both the feel and accuracy. Having tried both I'd say the WH is the better choice and well worth the extra outlay. Having said that a few people have had some teething problems with the WH since release. It might be worth hanging on a while to see what the score is with reliability and how it fares when the firmware update is released. There might be a price drop after Xmas also!1 point

Don't you get a red smoke marker on the vehicle's position when the message comes up? You should then just have to forward your view a bit in the direction of the vehicle's movement, which is clockwise around the target array.1 point

Yeah. Look I'm an American that flies The SU33 & t-frog almost exclusively. The modeled domination of the F15 isn't even CLOSE to the reality. It's way WAY undercooked. That said- If I'm going up against one in LOMAC- my experience and practiced skills within the confines of LOMAC are going to determine the winner a lot more than the the modeling. If I'm one on one against someone who : noob-- I win. has a clue-- I might win, he might get lucky with a spam-ram. is on my level or better-- I will usually lose unless I am able to acheive a significant tactical advantage early on. The guy who spams ARH's at TEWS hits? Yeah- that pisses me off too at times, but that's the way it is. That's why I try to be on comms with my squadron mates, and not fly alone. Many of these guys will tell you- a pair or team of SU33's can be pretty damn effective- a lot of it depends on numbers. If you are a lone F15- you got problems.. Bottom line- if you are looking for arcadey features or parameters to be set in the MP servers- you are almost completely alone. Join a squadron. Set up your own server. Set it up any way you like it, and see how many people fly in it. See what kind of problems come up as a result. If you aren't getting the kills you want or otherwise underperforming, the reasons are staring at you- in the mirror.1 point

Evasion techniques aren't really any different from any other IR-seeking missile launched at you at close range: spam flares like they're going out of fashion - they probably won't help against an Igla, but they might, so it can't hurt to try try to run away from the missile - only really viable if it's fired from long range and you already happen to be running away from it try to run the missile out of energy by making it work hard to reach you (put it on your beam, pitch up and down) - again, only really viable if the missile is fired from far enough away try to run the missile into the ground - usually difficult to do without running yourself into the ground due to the short range they're fired at, but sometimes this will work (however: it's very likely to make you an even easier target for the next missile) try to outmaneuver the missile by turning tightly into it - difficult, since the missiles are designed to outmaneuver you Even if you do everything perfectly, the best you can hope for is to change the odds from "certain death" to "almost certain death". I think the point being made is that warfare isn't "fair and balanced" - there doesn't have to be a way to get out of every single situation you find yourself in, and sometimes the only viable course of action in a particular situation is to die. There's things you can do to increase your chances of survival from 1% to 5%, but it's still pretty bleak. The purpose of air defenses isn't really to shoot down enemy planes, but to prevent those planes from being able to strike your valuable assets in the first place. So if you're in a situation where mid/high-altitude SAMs are preventing you from flying outside of MANPADS range, and the enemy is suspected to have sufficient supplies of MANPADS that flying low 'anywhere' will put an aircraft at risk, then the AD has done their job: the target cannot (safely) be attacked by aircraft. Realistically, your side will assess the likelihood of low-flying aircraft reaching the target, and decide if the target is valuable enough to be worth that risk. If they commit to attacking it, some losses are to be expected. From a game point of view, the mission designer needs to design a mission that is fun to play. For most players, that means that success or failure is largely (or entirely) determined by the player's skill, not by a roll of the dice. This basically means that if you want your mission to be able to be completed by the player, there must be some kind of vulnerability in the air defenses that can be exploited by the player to allow them to complete their mission. So what I'm trying to say is: putting MANPADS is random places that the player is likely to fly through without warning the player is kind of a dick move. Yes, it's somewhat realistic, but it's not much fun. If you create an impenetrable air defense network, then the player will not be able to penetrate it. If you want to make your mission 'exciting' for the player but still survivable, you need to ensure they're being fired upon by less effective weapons. Replace the Igla with a Stinger and merely spamming a few flares will put the odds of survival on the player's side. Alternatively, you can design your mission as a puzzle for the player to solve; but for that to work, it needs to be solvable. "You have to fly low or you'll be shot down, but if you fly low you may by shot down completely at random" is not really solvable.1 point

Looks normal everything that happened in the video. Auto-hover is engaged as per instructions on 10-30 of the Flight Manual. If the ALT channel is off, engaging auto-hover turns this channel on. ALT hold works in both the BR and RD modes. The AP channels have limited authority on the controls so the neutral position of the controls cannot be too far from what is needed. The ALT hold channel commands changes in collective to maintain captured altitude. The captured altitude value is taken when the ALT channel is engaged or when the collective brake is released while ALT channel is on. The ALT channel functions in the BR or RD mode.1 point

Sigh... FC2 Manual, section "Weapons Delivery", page 291: Step 1 Acquire the target with radar (i) in either LRD (2) or the TWS (Rctrl-I) sub-mode. Step 2 Place the TDC on the radar contact wit the (;), (,), (.), (/) keys and press the (Enter) key to lock the target. Once locked, the radar with automatically transition to an STT lock. When in TWS mode it is possible to lock up to 4 targets simultaneously. The first target will be the PDT and all subsequent targets will be SDTs. When within visual range, the VISUE (6) mode can be used. Step 3 Use the dunamic launch zone (DLZ) on HUD and vertical situation display (VSD) to determine when the target is within range (in VISUAL mode there are no cues on VSD). When the target is within Rtr range and the shoot cue is provided, press the weapon release button on your joystick or the (RAlt-Space) key on your keyboard. I'm sorry, but saying something like this: ...just doesn't work. It is telling that I made pretty much exactly the same explanation as was already in the manual, and then it worked. That tells me one thing that I sort of hoped not to use here, but this here is just insulting... I'm sure ED won't mind if I apologize on their behalf for giving you a simulation. ;) You can always re-map it to something sensible - like your joystick. ;) Imagine that - the russian ministry of defence doesn't want you to launch million-dollar missiles without first achieving launch parameters? Now that's just way weird! No. You use the weapon jettison command. Seriously people, ED makes simulators. ED does not make airborne FPS. That's why it comes with a manual.1 point

I mean, isn't a problem for you to have continous current flowing throw all you switches when they are closed? Sorry for my bad english and for haven't posted until today, i should have done it before! Best wishes from Menorca, small mediterranean island.1 point
