Use this mod if you would like to have more dense grass/bushes. Files can be used for DCS A-10C v1.1.1.1 and DCS BS2 v1.1.1.1 only. Note: This mod does impact performance in negative way, affecting video card mainly, so you will need higher end video card to render more denser grass and at further distance (I currently use HD5870 with 1GB vRAM) Few screenshots These are mine in-game options EDIT: version 1.2.6 Slider limits are in file ...DCS World/MissionEditor/Modules/dialogs/me_options_system.dlg - look section starting at line 501 edit "range" values (Min and Max) Files (A) Files (B) Files ©2 points

We are reevaluating how we approach this hobby. Which is triggering some changes around SCSimulations. Personally I have switched roles at my company and I'm enjoying my day job again, which means my hours are naturally increasing. In addition we have some other community projects which are recreating the work we have already done here. This in all honesty does not make sense for our community, which is small already and I don't want to see fragment. In light of these current conditions I am changing Helios license model. Helios will move to donation ware where Helios is free to use for all. This means I'll be setting up a way for people to donate money for the work I do, which is used solely for development tools for Helios and to further my cockpit. I will be exposing the API to write Helios plugins where the community can write new control types, simulation interfaces and gauges. My hope is that the community will take up and extend Helios to things like TeamSpeak plugins, new and better looking gauges and new control types and enhanced interfaces in the simulation. I will focus my time on enhancing the core engine with better more efficient rendering, full network support, better templating / theme support and better easier binding. I will post an unlocked development build sometime today. I will finish my Black Shark gauges over the next week and then begin the work to remove some of the licensing code, separate and release the source code for the gauge packs and simulation interfaces. This will take a few weeks to accomplish. For those who already purchased Helios, I will support you in exactly the same way I do today. Your existing donations are why everyone else has the tools they have and I hope you will feel good about your donations and what you have contributed to the community. I would never have launched on the several hundreds of hours to make a WYSIWYG editor just to build my pit, it would have stuck like TouchPal and Hawg touch with hand edited XML files. For those who think it was pricey and I was racking in the dough, think again. I've made less than $5 per hour of time spent on this project after buying some of the hardware (I needed a clean development workstation outside my pit for clean testing) and software tools I use to make Helios (I use NO pirated software). All of my net profits went into either my cockpit (extra external visuals, electronics, etc…) or toward running SCSimulations (materials for prototypes for Sheldon and I, web site, credit card processing fees, etc…).2 points

$100 in parts and about six hours to build, including writing the firmware for the serial chip and the microcontroller. I just need to get the labelling sorted out now, I'm thinking acid etching wouldn't be too hard.2 points

Thanks Tyger! Not sure how useful this thing will be, I do like the laminated cards I've seen on the forums... But, I'll keep plugging away for the heck of it. **UPDATE** So, I've finished the interface for a briefing card (still need to make another section for airborne info such as 9-line, Net ID's, Laser codes, etc.) But, I don't have the database for mission info pre-stored on the App like I want... yet. I'll start working on it soon, but for now it's a functioning "piece of scratch paper" which doesn't have the ability to save or load info for a given mission. Also, the "checklist" page isn't functioning yet, but the Airbase PDF's all work and are scrollable/zoomable with drag/pinch (Thanks again Shu for letting me use your PDFS!) . Anyways, would anyone like me to go ahead and try to get this on the app store now or would you rather wait for me to implement the database storage capability first? I guess I could always submit now and "update" it later. Thoughts? More suggestions?2 points

In this mission you will lead a flight of A-10s to strike an Insurgent command-and-control bunker at night before providing Close Air Support to an allied ground force tasked with sweeping a village in the Caucasus mountains. A full briefing and map screens are supplied with the mission, plus notes to the player in the readme text doc. This mission contains extensive customised voice comms and a full complement of battlefield support including JTACs, SpecOp recon teams and CAOC (Combined Air Operations Center) CAS coordination. Randomisation of CAS tasking invites at least two play-throughs of the mission in order to receive all available target assignments. Perceptions of mission difficuty may vary but I believe this to be an intermediate-to-advanced level scenario which, depending on specific targets assigned, will require competence in the following areas: i. Target i/d and prosecution via JTAC LSS laser guidance ii. Target i/d and prosecution via CDU input of L/L coordinates given in-flight iii. Target i/d and prosecution via TAD "Mark" for locations given by reference to a flightplan waypoint (WPs are all at nav altitudes and not suitable for target i/d) iv. Target i/d and prosecution of a moving convoy from altitude using all available resources. This is a tactical, procedural mission designed to reflect the reality of US military operations against a well-equipped militia, not the Russian or Chinese armies in full cry. It is therefore an asymmetrical scenario in which you have extensive battlefield support and are unlikely to get yourself killed unless you screw up. This is not a mission for gamers who like to fly Rambo against a wall of SAMs. The object is to complete all target assignments (your primary plus two randomly selected on-call CAS targets) and to RTB to Vaziani with both flight members in one piece. Clearance to RTB and a safe landing constitute victory in this .miz, as they do IRL. A hefty thank you to Apples and Panther for the voice-over radio files and to Grimes, who schooled me in the black arts of randomisation in the ME with enormous patience. I hope you enjoy the mission, which is the product of many hours of hand-crafting, playtesting and teeth-grinding. Comments are very welcome (in fact, encouraged). Not many people seem to be making missions for SP, so if you like it, say so and I will make more. The attached "Midnight Run" file contains the readme and adjusted versions of the .miz for both ramp and runway starts. Needless to say, I recommend the ramp start. Edit: Here is a link to the page for "Midnight Run" at the DCS User Files/Download site. Please feel free to comment there, or to rate the mission, the feedback is helpful and encouraging. Had a good approach and touchdown speed but suddenly, not too long after touchdown, right wheel & rear right wing exploded and all hell broke loose. Was this a bug or a simulated RL "random" malfunction ie. overstressed airframe etc.? I swear I didn't put more then 5000hrs into my Hog!:joystick:1 point

My setup PC with DCS A-10C installed is 192.168.0.20 - lets call it master Laptop without DCS A-10C is 192.168.0.54 - lets call it slave On the master you modify the file Config\Export\Export\Export.lua - in my case localAddress = "192.168.0.54" This will make the game send the info to 192.168.0.54 On the slave you modify HT13GPx86\HawgTouch.exe.config - in my case <add key="DataImportIPBinding" value="192.168.0.54"/> This will make the HawgTouch on slave to *bind* aka listen on the 192.168.0.54 IP Modify IP's, but do not change anything else. Adjust IP's to match your setup. Run hawgtouch on slave, switch to gauges. Run A10 on master, start the plane. Prosper :D1 point

You need to see gauges regardless of anything running. If you don't see any, first make sure that you see in HawgToauch main window that a Gauge Pack is loaded (version 1.0 or 1.1). If no pack is loaded download it from the main post and put the dll in the same folder of HT and restart the application. If a pack is loaded and you still don't see a thing, make sure you have installed the latest .NET 4 release. I linked it in the main post as well. If after all that still nothing shows, let me know. We'll take it further to figure it out.1 point

Whoa nice price konkussion!! I've never used a CH product, but I hear they're outstanding as far as build quality goes. It's a serious consideration for me right now. Plus an F-16 replica stick is literally an A-10C stick too. Second best thing to Thrustmaster. :) Still nearly $100 more than Saitek, but from what I hear it's a damn nice setup. [EDIT] The CH Fighterstick doesn't have a dual stage trigger. That could be it's fate....1 point

One thing i love about dcs is that it's a sandbox. There's no unlocking of weapons, no unlocking missions, no accomplishments, no XP points, there's even no intro! I love such games, where everything is available from the start and where motivation for playing is not unlocking or collecting stuff, but the gaming experience itself! I play it because i love flying, not because i need to achieve level 30 or get a 1000th gun kill. True sim doesn't need rewards, the reward itself is gained knowledge and successfully accomplished mission. That's one reason i sold my PS3, stupid GT5 and it's collecting-unlocking-grinding nature, like some lab rat experiment. EDIT: my previous post, concerning "complicated" training, or the lack of it: You guys watched Jetstream? It's not about spoon-feeding information, it's about repetition, discipline and self initiative. Drinking from the firehose. There's definitely a need for somewhat standardised course, but these things aren't supposed to be user-friendly. There's a reason why so much info is thrown at you. If you'll grind through it, you'll process critical info faster and made instant right decisions in the heat of battles. You don't think what TMS down or china forward does, you have to know it before you press it. Author should forget his fantasies about making learn fun, anyone willing to learn and master, WILL get it, it's not a rocket science.1 point

If you have MATLAB and know how to use it, you can try with TORNADO http://www.redhammer.se/tornado/ It uses Vortex Lattice, so don't expect perfect results outside lineal boundaries, but is easy to use and fits quite well for small AoA/Beta angles. Bear in mind that TORNADO doesn't include fuselage aircraft efects into derivatives, though. Regards!!1 point

I'm a teacher by profession. Which basically means I get paid to teach and most people ignore me. :) I work at (putatively) the top university in my country of residence and not a single day goes by that I'm not reminded of the increasing resistance of students to study. My students think taking a class is tantamount to studying the subject. "Studying happens outside of the class," I tell them while everyone rolls their eyes. Consumers of a study sim are students. Students should be turned on--lit up inside--by a learning curve. Agency, initiative, curiosity--these are the things that distinguish a decent student. Learning something new fires off chemicals in the brain and that is a good thing. All the better if one is able to nurture his own curiosity, do a bit of research, ask the questions, do the brainwork, consult the manual and bounce his ideas off of others...and marvel at how well others are able to explain and articulate their own understanding of this weapon system or those features wingman management...or Q-calls, or correct trim for fuel efficiency, etc. The fruit hanging from the higher branch tastes better. Much better if you've picked it yourself. This is why we're bored by Top Gun Airfighter 2000 for XBox... Games are Entertainment. Entertainment is diversion. --Nothing wrong with that at all! I'm not a snob. (I loves me some Angry Birds from time to time...Good FM and decent damage model.:smilewink:) However, diversion seems the farthest thing from the effect DCS a10c is intended to have on even the most casual a10c simmer. Cheers, Moosh1 point

Hi RodBorza!.....Welcome Back! You are probably running into the desires of the mission designer, as sometimes they set their missions to not allow labels, or External Views, or your own internal settings. In the Mission Editor you can control the level of External Views. (Look for a check mark in the left hand menu) Just open up the mission you want to edit in the Mission Editor, and save it with a unique name if you want to keep both the original, and your modified version.1 point

DCS: A10-C was the very FIRST flying sim that I've ever played (ACE Combat really doesn't count as anything) so naturally, I had a bit of trouble at the beginning. The very first time I started the game I had a CTD, so I tried again and got the same thing. A quick, 3 minute visit to the forums told me that the necessary steps to take. It took me 1 minute to do these steps and I was able to play. My first mission was instant action, and the only thing I did was mess around and fly, mashing keys on the keyboard and trying to figure out what each key did. For about the first week of having the game, I did nothing but repeat the tutorial missions over and over until I could remember the keyboard commands. After that, I started doing more Mission Generator missions. Yeah, I got shot down every time and my flights lasted about 5 minutes, but those 5 minutes were pure "Awwwwwwwwwwwww yeah!". Eventually, I even managed to discover WHOT and BHOT, and found my first target. Overjoyed. Then, another week goes by and I get my first kill. Estatic. Then I got my HOTAS Warthog and it was all uphill from there. Basically, I started out as a complete newbie to any flight sim (and certainly nothing as complex as DCS A10C) and after a few minutes on the forum search engine, I knew whatever I needed to know. If someone is looking for a nice flight sim that they can take an evening flight with, have a simple "takeoff-fly for 12 hours-land" plan, then go back to something like FSX. If you're expecting a game like DCS A10C, with all of its complex AI and high fidelity cockpit controls, to not have errors and a bumpy start, then you're crazy. It's not just a flight sim, it's a modern military combat simulator, which means you'll probably need to do some reading and head scratching. /rant1 point

This strikes a major chord for me, so please bear with the following editorial: I think the future of this product, for much of the non-contracted military user anyway, resides with the ME. I think it would be worthwhile for ED to promote "handmade" (as opposed to those using the mission generator) user-built missions. ED could run competitions, give prominence to worthwhile SP and MP missions here and on its web site and run or solicit tutorials in graduate-level ME stuff, like extensive randomization, scripting and importing voice files. Ultimately this will produce user-made campaigns which, with no disrespect to the dev team that had a great deal else to cope with, will eclipse the stock campaigns very quickly and provide longevity for the sim. I also think that an official or semi-official effort to align the possibilities of the ME with coordinated promotion of real-life Hog tactics and deployment would be useful. It would be great if ED got r/l Hog pilots and tacticians to comment on this and educate sim pilots/mission designers. One thing I cannot abide in this, or any other high-fidelity sim, is flying missions, even well-made ones, with unrealistic tactical environments for contemporary USAF operations, such as a wall of SAMs without SEAD cover, or the lack of air superiority in any scenario except a balls-out cold war conflict with Russia. A true "study" sim requires parrallel study of real-life tactics and deployment and ED could promote this, partly in its own interests.1 point

I would go to lua.org and start reading the documentation and some examples as you are going to need to get familiar. You need to make the right changes to the export script to send and receive any information you want. Every example I have seen sends/receives using TCP. You wont be able to talk to serial/usb devices directly from a10/lua, at least not without a lot more development experience with lua and other languages. Most people set up their own input/output loops by selecting and exporting the data they want and reading input from external sources via TCP. The export.lua give you the opportunity to read information from a10 every frame that is rendered and do something with it - i.e. send it somewhere. At the same time you are able to read external information. I.e. get an external event for a flipped switch and match it in game. Your LED hardware interface will not talk with lua directly. You will probably have to write a utility in a different language to control the leds. This other program will get its state information from the lua export. If you tell us the hardware you are using it's possible to give you more help there. Sorry, this is the condensed version as I am about to run the kids to school.1 point

BVR: Best fighter in FC2 is the F-15, you will see first, shoot first most of the time and still defend safely after pitbull...TWS mode is a real advantage and compensate the lack of IRST. Su-27/33 you will see first, shoot first but you have to maintain lock until impact if seeking the kill, making defense against incoming missile very risky... very useful IRST system for stealthy kills ( no warning). Mig-29S has weaker radar, you will see last, shoot last, but you can defend with more freedom after pitbull, exiting the fight is always possible as it has the best acceleration to high mach number, less fuel than other fighters but consumption is very low above 7km (supercruise capability on Winchester RTB's). WVR (Dogfight) Here it depends on your personal taste (energy vs angles). F-15/Mig-29 are more suited for fast energy tactics while the Su-27 is better in slower turning fights. the Su and the Mig are deadly in close encounters using their helmet targeting system/off boresight R-73 combination to get the 1st lock first shot. Welcome to FC2 air to air arena, am sure you will enjoy it.1 point
