Absolutely fantastic bird! We're really getting into Modern Air Combat with this classic! And it's always nice to fly a Boeing aircraft: you can figure out the avionics without even bothering to consult the manual. Great, great work Razbam!
-
Great news from Wags! Enjoying the whole range of products!
-
Could be very slightly and very momentary here but in that same flight I flew this average speed all along , also on moments that I slightly climbed, in all cases the speed was around the same number. And thus really higher than with the L-39C.
-
And anyway both fly like a charm, for me the L-39 honestly tops my list, together with Viggen and P-51D!
-
60% fuel. Very strange: I swapped the L-39C for the L-39ZA and I immediately had better speed 389 kts ???? I see that my AOA is slightly flatter.
-
Under these conditions (15°C instead of 20°C, lower flight - about 1200 ft) I get about 335-342 kn Still far from a record!
-
That explains a lot, yes I did most of my testing at 6000 ft; I'll check out flying lower!
-
Thanks for looking into this Yo-Yo. My best results after a couple of minutes of flight at 106 RPM: About 315 knots / 583 kph

Yes strange indeed! I must be doing something wrong since 1/ no one reports a similar issue and 2/ there is unanimity here you can reach higher speeds! So let's not worry about this; I enjoy to fly the L-39; of course I do not know the real thing but imho the flight model is so extremely well done, it is just simply a dream to fly! What I like most is when you land and take-off you seem to actually "feel" the runway! ED did magic with this kit!

I always refer to knots! As said I struggled, when flying level, to go faster than about 270-290 knots (of course even the slightest dive increases speed substantially). I did some further testing and it seems related to my X-55 stick & rudder settings on one of my PC's. When I fly the same test mission (just flying level essentially) on another PC with a CH stick, I on average reached about 30 knots more!!! I'm trying to figure out what causes this for my X-55 stick.

Do you remember, a trackball was for a very short time a hype on PC. I even bought one, to soon discover it is absolutely not the most ergonomic input device. For one thing, the translation of of curved movement to a linear one makes it a little difficult to learn. Also, you lack force feedback to use it with precision. I can fully understand it is long forgotten in the PC world, and am a little surprised to see it show up in multi million dollar ships!
-
Yes! I can already say that it seems related to the mission files (I always use missions I made and then modify again and again, so some are quite old mission files). When I just start in a brand new mission in the ME, I now could fly 350 knots level at about 7000 feet, no wind, 60% fuel, no payload. So that is way better as what I have in the missions I was flying. But anyway there seems a wide consensus her that it is not a genral problem and that I am the only one facing this presumed issue. So I'll dig deeper and when I can pinpoint what it exactly is I'll report back!
-
Strange, no I'm not flying with airbrakes and/or gear down :) I just struggle to get over 270 knots in level flight. I fly without payload and about half a tank. Something must be wrong in my config, I'll try to sort it out.
-
I always refer to knots. And to be clear: there is no way I can reach 400 knots in level flight with the L-39. But I understand that this is also the case in real life.
-
Thanks Svtony; if the performance matches the real thing than that is fine with me! Indeed the L-39 engine hasn't much thrust. And I repeat it was just an inquiry out of curiosity, since I absolutely love to fly the DCS L-39. It is an absolute marvel!
-
Strange that I cannot get these speeds. But I am reassured that for you guys everything seems fine, so I have to check what is going on (on the two different PC's I tested it!)
-
Yes I also suspected trimming so I tried two things: - trimming to see if I could optimize speed: NO EFFECT - reset trim since it might have been optimal for take-off, not for level flight: NO EFFECT

The L-39 is an absolute jewel and a joy to fly! But I have one question: I struggle to reach a speed of more than 260-270 knots in level flight, as well at low, medium or high altitude. It is only when diving that I can get something like 310 knots or so. (with 50% fuel, no weapons) This seems to me too slow. One private owner of an L-39 claims on Youtube about 500 mph, which might be exaggerated. But given the fact that the L-39 is used in A2A adversary roles and as an aerial cinematography platform, I would think you cannot do this with the low top speed of DCS. In DCS, I can definitely do better with a Mustang, Spit or BF-109. Do you guys also get this low top speed? And do you think it is realistic?
-
Yes there is no problem to land the F-5E, even if you do not use brakes or chutes it doesn't need the whole runway. I keep having issues with the NWS though, even while simply taxiiing. It seems like Ican only do one turn, then it becomes unsteerable.
-
I posted a track in this thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3272973&postcount=10 In my case I think the problems are related to the nose wheel steering, that seems completely erratic. - and oh yes I checked the bindings.
-
In my view it is the nose wheel steering that doesn't work. Here a track where it just becomes unsteerable while taxiing for take-off. FT Test F-5E steering.trk
-
I wonder whether it is related to the problems we experience when braking after landing.
-
I do have the same issue, over and over again. Make a perfect landing, decelerate and suddenly, the plane veers of to port. In my view this is not a modelled, but a scripted thing. Very bizarre and unnatural. I tried all the rudder and brake setting adjustments mentioned, but to no avail.
