  1. I mean what you could do if your ok with the images being in FLIR is use the LANTIRN pod as a TARPS stand in?
  2. As far as I know ED still has the licence for the F-4 Phantom due to Bilsimtek being a sub developer under ED and was reabsorbed along with the AH-1 and F-4E Block 58 projects they were doing and ED still plans to make and F-4 or possibly multiple after everything else is said and done (after F-18/16 is complete/mostly complete and after Hind and AH-64 have been released). However if its not considered under the same licence agreement due to the weapons and modifications put onto it the first F-4 we could see as soon as possible would realistically come from TrueGrit as the F-4 ICE. As the CEO flew German F-4 ICE before the Typhoon and has many friends he could ask for more information then just what he knows so much like the Eurofighter they're in one of the best positions to make any type of F-4 Phantom. While *possible* Heatblur has said that once the F-14 is done their next module will be "2 engined" and "Complicated" and since when RAZBAM wanted to make a flyable A-6 Intruder around 2014/2015 they said that "someone else" had the licence AND that HB has said they have interest in making their already high quality 3D AI asset into a fliable module at some point. The A-6 is most likely HB's next module.
  3. Yes these missiles need cooling. Some Hughes engineers decided to test to see what would happen/how it would perform without coolant being given to the missile...and it melted the nose cone off...
  4. Yeah, Grumman was like..."well the plane was designed to carry bombs you just didn't want them...for the money you gave us you have 2 options. 1. AIM-120 integration for the F-14 as we have the software update for the AWG-9 ready and just need to bug test it and put it into the planes, or, 2. LANTIRN TGP integration so it can use LGBs" The Navy saw the shifting landscape after the end of the Cold War and the lessening need for Air superiority and went with option 2. The rest is History.
  5. I originally thought you meant when the mission loaded, if you mean within the editor itself that would be nice
  6. Heatblur is working on Jester: LANTIRN as a official type of replacement for the "Pilot LANTIRN" mod but how it will work with the Jester menu is unknown. Heatblur strives for accuracy and realism with the exception of the LANTIRN as it is impossible to use that part of the Module's experience solo in multiplayer. However everything else is possible to use/experience to some degree with the help of Jester. As such having people being able to freely switch back and fourth is unrealistic and would create an obsolescence for dedicated Human RIOs which Heatblur actually would rather to cultivate and encourage. So to answer your question, in single player you can choose to experience the aircraft how you wish as well as the fact as its single player you don't have anyone else as an option but within multiplayer Heatblur is committed to creating as realistic experience (with as I've stated, exception to the LANTIRN functionality) as possible, so it is unlikely that even if it became an option in other aircraft such as the Huey ect that Heatblur would allow it within Multiplayer.
  7. I can't ***wait*** for TrueGrit to release their Eurofighter Typhoon with it's MBDA Meteor with it's 60+nmi range and 37nmi no escape zone (50% chance of kill against a 9G manoeuvring target with countermeasures according to NATO standard) and its IRIS-T Missiles with not only the PIRATE IRST system to lock them up without needing a radar RWR warning BUT also the 360 degree, over the shoulder high off bore sight missile shots and see people complain then...if your already getting annoyed at the Tomcat. the Eurofighter will finally will make the score boards irrelevant. Perhaps maybe then the F-14 won't seem so bad to you I look forward to cooling my afterburners with the tears of the "Competitive" Crowd when she shows up.
  8. After a series of accidents and maintenance problems with their McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantoms in the 1973 air show season, the Blue Angels stood down for an overview of the program by the Secretary of the Navy, John Warner. Ken Wallace a 1954-55 slot pilot and 1961-63 team leader, was called upon to guide the team through the rough waters. Wallace was serving in the office of the chief of naval operations as the tactical air plans officer. “Because of my past association with the Blue Angels, whenever anything that concerned them came up, I was rung in on it in some way,’ he said. According to Wallace “the Secretary of the Navy was not fully supportive of keeping the team. Admiral Zumwalt, who was chief of naval operations and not an aviator, was very much insistent on keeping the team in business. So he and I went to chat with the Secretary of the Navy. The Secretary agreed to keep it in business, but we had to change airplanes." Given the job of program manager for the Blue Angels, Wallace had his work cut out for him. Drawing on his previous experience with the team, he would implement many far-reaching changes. “I started casting about for a different airplane. The airplane that I really wanted was the F-14,’ he said. “I did not want an F-14 with all the weapons control systems in it; that was wasteful.” After proposing his idea to Grumman, they decided that it would cost more to make an airplane without the systems than it would to make one with them. Cost became the determining factor, and the F-14 idea went by the wayside. Due to the then ensuing fuel crisis the Blue Angels then moved to the much more efficient and easier to maintain A-4 Skyhawk.
  9. With getting them off the "Auto" mode using the manual AFT also disable the spoilers from operating? Because thats was my understanding as the "main" thing that makes it easier for new people to AAR. Stopping the wings from moving AND disabling the spoilers so they don't either add over correction for roll or cause drag that would slow you down. I'm just wondering if the spoilers were much of an issue IRL or if New pilots just had to get through it because this is why for DCS anyway its been said to put them into Bomb mode because it achieves both.
  10. What Victory is saying is correct, I mean why the hell would you use the HUD indicator in the first place when you know the F-14's seating position is very high over the nose which is going to make that indicator hard to be correct in the first place. Much like for example how the F-14 exhibits proverse yaw while it "looks" like the aircraft actually does Adverse Yaw, again, because of pilot seating position. I mean you have literally have a artificial horizon on the VDI for that exact reason which is huge and easy to understand.
  11. idk what your on about, latest update has pushed its turn rate and drag slightly bellow the EM values but it is defiantly still flyable
  12. Is literally why... That isn't to say, of course other main line "poster child" Modules won't improve or eventually live up to expectations but its why you don't see people take issue with things on say the Harrier, Mirage, F-16C and F/A-18C in the same way they do the F-14. Those modules mentioned just haven't cultivated the same level of trust and or commitment as Heatblur has shown with the Viggen and F-14 projects
  13. I mean...sure its no where to the extent of say the F-4, F-106 ect but she was first and foremost an interceptor. Lobbing AIM-54s at things is kinda her thing. don't see this decreased turn rate as a reason to stop flying it till its fixed.
  14. Thank you for explaining this.
  15. Nvm there are F-4s with a much smoother top to the rudder....I reckon it could almost me an F-4, but it would be an early F-4 with the shorter nose. Like an F-4B or F-4C. And if you *were* to drape a cloth over it the highest of the tail and the raised nose with the nose gear up for the Navy phantoms you could get that "curved" spine you see....could it be? https://www.thisdayinaviation.com/tag/mcdonnell-f-4b-phantom-ii/ Image doesn't want to load so have this link to the imaged I wanted. Pretty sure its an F-4B with the leg extended.
  16. Amazing work guys. Although under the tarp.... *Ahem*, F-4 with nose strut extended or Su-17/20/22? The wings and spine aren't quite right for an F-4 but the tail and nose is pretty close yet the Su-17/20/22 matches the spine and fits the wings better but the nose looks a little too short and has the probe as well as the tail not seeming *quite* right.
  17. So by Q1 you would mean that we will see not only additions to the existing F-14s but also the F-14A 135 GR Early and Iranian F-14A 95 GR? Thats some nice turn around time.
  18. I originally thought since downloading DCS onto my new PC that it was some option that was on by default to help forgetful pilots at low speed high AOA but after testing the F-14B it doesn't happen. In my F-14A when I get slow and pull high AOA the engines automatically up their RPM on their own to 97% or so. I am aware of the F-14's Auto throttle feature for landing but it was my understanding that not only does it have to be activated with throttle mode switch being set to Auto but also other secondary things such as the gear being out for it to work. So is this a bug? a setting in the options which for whatever reason only effects the F-14A? or does the F-14A have this feature IRL which I was not aware of?
  19. What bind are you using to STT? I've found Jester does not like the "Lock Hostile target ahead" command unless he himself has IFFed the target even if you have AWACS Datalink telling you its a hostile. I find either "Lock target ahead" or primary "Choose specific target" to be the best option for using Sparrows in STT.
  20. I mean hey you now get to have a nice little history tid bit once RAZBAM releases their F-15E. Because its my understanding the squadron of F-14 dedicated to the land based F-15Es also had the fishbowl TID when they mention the reasoning behind why they tagged them onto the Eagle squadrons due to a larger display to use the LANTIRN system to buddy lase for the Strike Eagles.
  21. Yeah I want my early 135 and 95 tomcats as well as the AI A-6 and maybe flyable at some point A-6 before they think of touching this kinda stuff.
  22. The AIM-7E-4 was only used on US F-14s during Operation Frequent Wind over Vietnam in 1975. The AIM-7F entered service in 1976 so aside from OFW she didn't really use them. Although I am one for saying the F-14-135-GR early should get the options for AIM-7Es and AIM-9Hs used in the Op just so you can recreate to the best of our abilities that era of combat. (Bellow) F-14A's from VF-1 'Wolfpack' Over Vietnam providing CAP during Operation Frequent Wind As for the "Persian" Cats or the F-14-95-GR we have several things. First off they got deliveries of 284 AIM-54A Mk.47s buy the time of the Hostage Crisis as this weapon was the main feature they wanted to intercept Mig 25s and the main reason Iran chose the F-14 over the F-15. For FOX1 and FOX2 weapons though it gets a little bit more tricky. Col. (rtd) Fereydoun A. Mazandarani states in interviews that Iran bought AIM-7Fs and AIM-9Ls for their F-14s but these weapons never got delivered due to the Hostage crisis, Some secondary sources state that Iran never intended to get the AIM-9L and some state they never indented or were able to get either. Regardless what they did end up using were AIM-9P-3s which are essentially Export models of the Airforce's AIM-9J and they took AIM-7Es from their F-4 Phantom's inventory and used those on the airframe. (Above) Iranian Tomcat with AIM-9P-3 and AIM-54As (Bellow) AIM-9 Sidewinder family for reference. Now we come to the exotic weapons, Due to lack of spare parts and their AIM-54 stocks being depleted somewhat during the Iran-Iraq war Iran went through several programs to adapt Soviet weapons onto the airframe. These were the R-73 and R-27, both programs from what US and Iranian sources indicate didn't work out and were scrapped. What was used however was the MiM-23 HAWK Surface to Air missile being adapted to work with the AWG-9 radar with allegedly this weapon being used twice in anger. (Above) Iranian Tomcats with AIM-54s and MiM-23 HAWK missiles. (Bellow) R-27 Fitted to Iranian F-14. Heatblur has expressed an interest to try and represent earlier conventional weapons such as the AIM-7E and AIM-9P-3/AIM-9H for both US and Iranian Tomcats as well as some of the more unusual ones such as the HAWK missile but nothing as of yet has been confirmed or is concrete at the moment. Hopefully we got more information in the coming months.
  23. It could've been jester not being set too auto or surprisingly good flying on the AI's part. If jester isn't set to Auto then sometimes he doesn't change the radar's elevation on the antenna so its best not to screw with him or if you do specifically select the Radar mode: Auto feature when your finished. Otherwise it could be the AI dumping altitude and getting lost in the terrain. I had a group of Mig 23s do that to me over the caucus mountains in my singleplayer campaign and was forced to merge before I even saw them on radar.
  24. Oh I must know where to find this video, theres been so many F-14 interviews over the last year that I don't even know where to start.
