  1. Deephack and dotChuckles make a strong case for the secret next gen module being the Gripen that I can't dispute. Deephack Live Stream + DCS News 8th May 2021 - YouTube the specifics start at 24:35. I am ready to spend my money so please put up the pre-purchase page. If in the (highly) unlikely event the Gripen is not in Heatblur's cards, feel free to apply my credit card charge to whatever else Heatblur chooses to do since I already know it will be excellent and I want it.
  2. JIGGAwest No physical detents, reduced saturation on both axis (one at a time) at first a little then alot to see what was happening. Nothing changed. The answer for me is what ddwg72 does. I physically set the throttle lever in the cockpit back to where it is supposed to be (and used to be) on spawn in. Around the same time this problem started, I noticed when spawning into the Huey that the collective starts mid position and goes down when I jiggle my throttle which is bound to the collective axis. Makes for an interesting experience when the server has hot spawns and the Huey is taking off the moment you spawn in. For that one I learned to move my throttle up before spawning in (X52 for that one not the Virpil so its not a Virpil issue) and then the moment I spawn in, jam the throttle down so that the first thing the server sees is the "collective" moving down.
  3. Went in today and my bindings are all fixed. Thank you !
  4. It is not a fast jet however it feels fast enough when you are low and looking up at the tops of the trees
  5. I can confirm that. After the update today I cannot set an axis control for pitch, roll, yaw, or thrust. Keyboard inputs only. Both EB and CC models are affected. Whoopsie !
  6. Unless I am very much mistaken, Russian DCS pilots don't have a russian language option for Jester so I feel lucky that I have the option of listening to Petrovich in English. If he has an "accent" who cares? If I drive an hour in my native english speaking country the locals have an accent too. |Everyone has an accent. The HIND module is based on a russian designed, built and fielded helicopter. The software was most likely written by Russians. I imagine a large number russian DCS players will be purchasing the HIND module. Of course Petrovich should be speaking Russian. If the devs go to the trouble of adding a second language option for english speakers I am only going to be grateful. The "accent" should be "over the top" (?!) I can't begin to understand why that makes sense. What exactly is the point of this thread?
  7. Hmmm... well, I did calibrate several times already and I did it again before responding just to make sure.. I also double checked my keybindings and axis bindings with no conflicts. It does sound like a setup issue though. I messed around with it some more and found out I am spawning in with the throttle out of the stop detent. If I spawn in, push the throttle forward against the parking brake stop, then flip the cutoff switch the throttle then jumps back into the cutoff position and I can start normally. If I spawn in and just try to flip the cutoff switch nothing happens. I have to push the throttle forward and then flip the cutoff lever to get the throttle to got into the cutoff position. I guess this is what you are saying too. Thanks for the help.
  8. Something new that I first experienced today. When spawning into the Huey the collective is set in the mid position. As soon as I move my controller it aligns with my controller and works fine. The problem is, if you start "hot", the moment you spawn in, the collective is pulled halfway up and you are launching. Not usually an issue for me in single player since I prefer to start cold but some multi player servers spawn into hot starts so its an instant crash. I have seen a few other minor issues with controls over the past two days with other modules and I am wondering if a quiet hotfix was released that created a few issues? Or perhaps a Windows update is creating a few inconsistencies with the controls?
  9. I use a X52 throttle on a pedestal that angles it down 45 degrees so you get sort of the "pull up to increase collective" effect. My throttle is just mapped to two keys, throttle up and throttle down. I set the throttle to 100% and let the governor control the throttle. If I really want to practice auto rotations I can use the button to throttle down but I haven't touched my throttle in flight in months. An extension on the stick will make fine control of the cyclic much easier. Throttle for collective. Pedals for yaw. I know some people use stick twist instead of pedals so its possible but every bit of control helps with a helicopter since its naturally unstable and wants to kill you all the time. I love the Huey. I learned a lot about how helicopters fly that I wasn't aware of before. Its great fun going low and slow, sightseeing at or below tree level. Its also very challenging and once you figure it out very rewarding. The Huey is also very simple system wise so learning how to get it started and ready to go is easy. You will spend your time learning to fly and not spending hours trying to memorise all the buttons and switches to get your weapons and targeting systems sorted out.
  10. This happened to me today but the above fixes aren't working. Last night everything was fine. Tried to cold start this morning and the engine won't crank when the start switch is flipped. APU starts normally. I recalibrated my throttle (Virpil), reduced the X and Y saturation to 90% then and again at 80%, tried another module and the throttle is working fine. I restarted Windows with no change. I hear the sound of the engine but the engine monitor shows 000 rpm. I also started the mission hot start on the ramp. Engine works fine. THEN, I noticed that I could not shut off the engine with the throttle cutoff lever and I could move the throttle lever through it's full range regardless of which position the throttle cutoff lever was in. I don't have the cutoff lever mapped and I don't have any other mappings on the throttle lever beyond the axis. AV8B No start.trk AV8B No cutoff.trk
  11. I am just happy getting the chance to explore the HIND and what it might and might not be able to do. I couldn't care less about what it "brings to DCS". The HIND is a badass helicopter that scared the bejesus out of NATO forces in its day. Flyilng the HIND sounds like a whole lot of fun.
  12. Yes, but everyone knows that the RIO is in charge of the fight in the Tomcat. The meatstick in front just wiggles the stick. With guns and rockets (and bombs?...) available to the pilot I am sure there will be plenty for SP people to enjoy with the HIND
  13. The direction of the torque is defined by the direction of rotation of the main rotor not the tail rotor. I believe the HIND is just like the Mi-8 in rotor direction so right anti-torque pedal as you add collective.
  14. Sorry, I am not following you. That is not saying you are wrong but it doesn't match what I understand about altimeters and measures of atmospheric pressure. "The underlying problem is that the value one enters in the mission editors "QNH" field is just the pressure at sea level, independent of the set temperature at sea level. It's more like a QFF." As far as I understand, "QNH" is the barometric pressure adjusted to sea level. There is no temperature component to the QNH. "This does make sense because, assuming the same pressure at sea level, an airfield with an elevation of 0 ft has a different QNH than an airfield with an elevation of 1,000 ft." The actual measured pressure will be different at the two airfields because they are at different altitudes relative to sea level but the QNH will be the same because it always corrected to sea level.
  15. I would be surprised if any general purpose "steam gauge" style altimeter takes temperature into account. I don't have experience with real A-10's so I don't know if they have temperature compensation or its just modeled that way. Deviations between actual altitude and indicated altitude are quite normal and the general adage is "when going from high to low, look out below". This means at colder temperatures or moving to a lower pressure (without a change in the Kohlsman window) then the indicated altitude will be higher than actual and you will be closer to the ground than you think. For a 10 degree difference such as between 15 and 25 degrees the change would be neglible from an operating point of view. When you compare -25 and 15 then you might have to think about it and compensate for it. [Edit] Just thought I should add that here in North America, a barometric altimeter is considered "safe for operation" if it reads within 75 feet of airfield elevation when the pressure window is set correctly. These types of altimeters are not as precise as computer simulators tend to make them appear.
  16. I haven't clicked on the "Instant Action" button in ... forever. Thanks for the heads up and I will take a look.
  17. My limited knowledge of the HIND is that it is used more like a close support airplane rather than "sniping tanks from the treetops" sort of thing that NATO attack helicopters seem to be portrayed as doing. Fly fast, Hit hard, Maybe drop off some ground troops, Get out. Sort of a Sturmovik or Frogfoot that can hover and drop off troops. I agree though that early functionality will most likely be limited (EA after all) , and I am bracing myself for a very limited AI gunner/pilot. I expect to spend the first few months learning to fly the basic aircraft and shoot the 30mm perhaps. I am only guessing but I suspect to make the HIND really shine is going to take two human crewmembers and another year's development. I do look forward to learning how the Soviets intended the HIND to work and seeing how it fits into the DCS battlefield. I have heard from several sources that NATO feared the HIND in general. I think it will bring something new and different and that is always good.
  18. Can I set a ground unit to move in formation or do the ground units in a group always follow each other in a straight line? I haven't found any option for formations in the mission editor unlike aircraft which have several formation options under the advanced waypoint actions. I can start them line abreast but when they move they always move out in single file.
  19. Due to the wear and tear its not a normal technique but when they have to go, they have to go and if that means pullilng coll ective and sliding along until they can get enough translational lift to climb then that is what they do. Skid plates are typically installed that will absorb some of the wear and prevent the tubes from taking the damage but its a rough technique for rough situations. In the opposite situation, landing, if you gotta come in hot and fast you probably don't want to fuss around transitioning to a hover and gently lowering it down. In that case you ride it onto the skids and slide to a quick stop. Its not something you would do routinely but the machine was designed to do it and survive.
  20. its a common thing to do when the helicopter is too heavy to hover in ground effect. A lot of the bigger helicopters I know can haul more weight than they can hover with so rolling landings are a requirement.
  21. yeah, I was definitely below those minimums when I aquired a visual . Thanks.
  22. I definitely tried to use the mouse zoom on the approach plate with no success but if you say it can be done then I will assume I was doing something stupid. "You guys have to improve your IFR flying skills" - Vibora I completed mission one on my first attempt thank you very much Now as for mission two...
  23. Thanks Eduardo, I saw that shortened approach plate in the briefing but I couldn't enlarge it and my eyes are too old to make much out of it I must have got lucky then. When I first saw the runway it was on my right but I was able to sidestep and set down alright. If those runway conditions weren't to minimums they were awfully close.
  24. Did I miss a copy of the Batumi approach plate for mission one or was one not included? I didn't see it on the kneeboard or briefing but it would be super useful to have after being told to perform an ILS landing. Also, the briefing shows the flightplan and has you tracking outbound from Kutaisi VOR to Batumi. The voice instructions however say track to LU NDB. If you don't know that LU is at Batumi it can be a scramble to find it on the F10 map. Where do campaigns go in DCS? I was looking for them but couldn't find the official ones included with the client, only the user made ones. Are they hidden? I am assuming, once I find them I can overwrite them with the updated files in the previous post? "For the next update, a message could be added telling the player when he failed the ILS approach, as currently there is no feedback When this happens." I figured when I landed on the runway that the approach was successful. Can you fail the approach and still land?
