  1. I'm not quite sure what point you are trying to make? The difficulty of it and the 'simulation' aspects are the exact reasons why I love this game. I love the fact that it has taken me years to reach the stage I am at, that when I think back on where I was and where I am now there is an element of pride. Combined with immersive campaigns like reflected Simulations it becomes, as you suggest, a real insight of past experiences. You don't need add ons to play this but you can buy them. If you don't like using keyboards then purchase some axis instead. Honeycomb make relatively cheap options. Short of building a full cockpit I'm not sure what would satisfy you? But, YouTube channels like the warthog project have shown, dcs is agile enough in its design to accommodate. The only limitations on this for you is how much you want to invest but I expect you will find yourself very much in the minority wanting to dumb this game down. There are countless dumbed down 'fun' flying games out there, only dcs gets my attention though and it's purely because it tries it's best to be a 'simulation'. It's not perfect, but it's the best that is out there by a long shot.
  2. Is there a way currently that DCS records the glideslopeon the supercarrier? I would love to be able to see how my approaches look from the outside and wondered you can review the PLATS footage after landing? Or if there is a button that sets it to record? If not it would be a fun addition.
  3. ...... erm....... maybe...... Good point, well made! Right back to the simpit I go! Thanks Razo+r
  4. I will be honest, I don't know if this is a bug or if what I read is incorrect and you can't do a single engine reheat but... I read a story where in a turn reverse the pilot would also use asymmetric thrust to help speed the change in direction. Trying this it does work but I realised that both engines popped out of afterburner when I pulled on a single throttle. I have tried this with both a button as the gate and without. Is this correct? Or should you be able to still light one can?
  5. Hi ED, I've been experimenting with this and find a distinct drop in VR. Plays silky smooth on monitor and all other modules. Have primarily been using the A10c2 as it has a similar monocle design in VR, again with no fps drop. If it would help I'm more than happy to upload tracks of all or some of these tests so you can see and compare. Is there anywhere specific I can upload tracks etc and is there anything in particular that would help? Good luck with it and loving the apache the more I play with it.
  6. Have you double checked the axis binds on the control setup? Mine had the rudder axis set up on the rudder pedals, throttle and stick so you might find it's a conflict on another controller that is causing the issue. Good luck with it.
  7. I was just coming on this morning to ask about the new autopilot switching as it confused me last night so thank you. Question, now that we flick the autopilot on first then select the appropriate switch is the autopilot already aiding attitude, bank etc or does it wait until the next switch is selected before working?
  8. Hi all, I am aware that for a long time the horizontal needle is out of sinch with the glideslope which I assume is because it is following the F/A18 glideslope and that this has been highlighted preciously. Ie. The issue that if you follow the needles so you are on and on they will call out that you are up and on. I am also aware that at some point in recent history you have tried to fix this but a recent flight has shown me that now while the HUD shows the correct glideslope the HSD continues to show as previous. I have also noted that if you select auto throttle and ACLS it appears to pogo between the two different glideslopes. Fun but terrifying when you get close to the boat in VR . Its not a real issue as the HUD symbology makes recovery in manual better than the previous as you aren't trying to guesstimate where the needle should be, but I just wanted to highlight that the issue is still present as i have not seen it mentioned and it is clear a fix has been attempted. Ps. I should add I have only tried this in the A model and am aware it might not be present in the B, as is the case for the deckcrew handsignals which still treat the A model like a hornet and ask you to raise the launch bar after hooking up.
  9. Unfortunately this is still bust in the latest update. Your workaround still works though.
  10. Hey, Heatblur! How about now?
  11. Apparently if you go to the default ATC freq and use the normal F5 radio comms and request take off before using your custom space bar version that will work. At least that is what is being suggested in other campaigns with the same issue.
  12. As others have already said the TM warthog should work beautifully. I use it for the huey using the left throttle for the throttle and right throttle inverted for the collective and find I have the precision I want. My brother has a collective and its a nice addition and feels special to use but it's certainly not essential.
  13. Just to say I have solved this myself, thanks in part to YouTube. You need to wait at the hold short and make sure Biff is directly behind you before taking off. Then keep speed down so the separation isn't too great. Not sure why this works while anchoring at Apex doesn't, but it does, so on with the campaign go!
  14. Hey, not sure the reason why this has occurred but all I can say is try it again as this mission works fine for me with regards to the triggers. Maybe wait a little before bringing up the F10 menu? Good luck with it.
  15. OK so here is a question for you all and a canvas of opinion. In mission 5, disregarding the wildcard you are faced with multiple low level F16s with all aspect missiles. How do you deal with them? I've flown this mission four times now on various playthroughs and it's one I really struggle with, which I love, but I find lessons hard to come by. Ideally I'd like to have an PDSTT and knock one out with a fox 1 by the merge, but given their relative position this is almost impossible to get until within 5miles because of the background clutter meaning I'm generally on the defensive already. I could drop altitude to solve this but then have potentially less energy after the merge. Obviously the F16s have a much better thrust/weight ratio anyway so just saying above to boom and zoom doesn't really work as it does with the F5s. Likewise I would normally try to bracket with my Wingman to Ideally get some potential shots but due to the struggle getting a lock and the faster closing speed I find this impossible. The F14 has more speed but I find separation more problematic because of the all aspect missiles. So what do you do? How do you counter the threat? What works? What is the correct strategy? Is there a correct strategy? I have beaten this mission once but it felt opportunistic and lucky rather than strategic. Teach me Internet! What are the best strategies.
  16. Hi, not sure if this is just me but I have tried a few alternatives and still no joy. Just after take off and switching to departure you ask Biff to contact you when he reaches Apex but this he fails to do. I have tried to orbit at Apex in case he missed the trigger zone, and I have flown as far as way point 5 but all he does is formate. I assume there should be some comms as you don't radio departure and there is no talking after the above. I assume its missing a trigger point? If not could some one let me know what I'm doing wrong. Ta Sorry I should add at this time my radios are set to Guard 1, departure and 33FM, although I have tried staying on Tower also.
  17. As always Heatblur have knocked it out of the park with their trailer! Their vids always seem head and shoulders over everything else produced under the DCS umbrella! I don't know what they are paying the media team but they deserve a payrise! Setting the benchmark once again, just like they did for the Tomcat! This isn't an aircraft I was particularly bothered about and I'd much prefer the A6 (hint ) but I'm stoked now! This is one pre-purchase right here
  18. Going further with this I had an idea of a patch that could be very similar to the topgun one. Only as an F5 in the centre of an F14 gunsight with the lock on circle creating the outer ring. Too corny perhaps?
  19. Once everything is booted up right click and hold the switch in the bottom right corner. It needs to be depressed for a second or two before it registers.
  20. Would anyone else be interested in a zone 5 fabric patch or is it just me? In the same way Top Gun graduates were given the Top Gun patch I kind of want one for completing the Zone 5 campaign . Put another way.... If reflected designed one and sold one, I for one would buy one! Is this just me?
  21. Hi, it's only a minor issue but have tried 3 times with same result each time. On multiple occasions, so on start up and contacting clearance, contacting the ground team and final approach to Nellis. The wingman talks over the comms at the same time about something else. Don't think I'm doing anything wrong? Loving the campaign though and learning quite a few new tricks
  22. Let me start by saying I'm absolutely loving this campaign! I've spent many hours in the A10 but since the F14 came out I've left it by the wayside, so this has been a lovely refresher. So I've just done the July 4th celebration and ended up with an extra reason to remember it! Whilst waiting in orbit I must have swallowed a bird as all of a sudden I had a left engine failure, tried to do an airstart but ended up setting the thing on fire. It's clear this isn't in the script as I made an emergency landing at Nellis while me and Biff chatted happily about landmarks. Needless to say I need to fly this one again but it was an entertaining fly and gave me a definite lesson..... turn random failures off in campaigns!
  23. Ace ta! thanks for the advice! I'll keep that in mind for next time
  24. Happy new year reflected, hope you had a great time and it's a good year ahead! I've put this here as I'm uncertain where else to go but am uncertain if it's me or if it's outside my control. In an attempt to do this without spoilers by issue is after I land and rearm at Berlin. While getting back up to flight Idle one of the backseat gunners says we are hit and once I take off I find that the front weapons no longer fire. Checking the after mission summary I see they get damaged. But in addition to this the back seat gunners no longer shoot either. I've have tried it twice, thinking the first time that I had been unlucky where I landed but it's the same issue. Is this me doing something wrong or is it a potential bug? Love the campaign though! Definitely unique in its feel! Im Definitely a better slick than hog driver mind
