Feedback Thread - F-14 Tomcat Patch June 8th 2022
Indianajon replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Hi IronMike, I had a very unusually thing happen tonight which had me scratching my head. I loved it but thought I'd better check it was correct. I was flying a random zone 5 mission (number 6 I think? Will grab the track in a sec). I was in norm missile mode, STT with the Aim-7. Shot at about 10 miles and almost immediately (maybe a second at most) Jester shifted to PD-STT and lost lock. It took me about 3-4 seconds to lock back up using PAL and I fired a second fox 1. However the first continued to track and hit the target (F16 defending by diving and trying to pull into the notch using chaff & flare). I've never had a fox 1 track and hit after a broken lock, even if I have managed to lock back up. I loved it but it's not how I understood sparrows worked. I will put my tacview up momentarily. I don't have the skills but I'm sure someone here does. This paint scheme for this year's display season is amazing!

With regards to the oil dilution I have also noted after not flying for a while that the oil pressure on start up maxes out like the spit. I've tried the oil dilution to try and sort this but not quite sure how/if it worked? The left engine pressure seemed to drop a little but right didn't drop at all.

Ace ta. Yes thanks, yes I was doing that going through my emergency procedures although I did divert to Anderson rather than head back to the boat. Useful to know it's a bug.
-
Personally I prefer the speed call frequencies over the bandit position as it allows me to keep my head out of the cockpit. Plus, as mentioned above, the lag between his call and the positioning can be a little confusing. That said, the occasional bandit call is useful if I lose sight.

Hi all, I've noticed since the last update that the fuel flow is now alot more irregular than previous but uncertain if this is a change in the modelling becoming more accurate or something else? When I'm in a turn (say BFM rate fight for example) the fuel only seems to be be used from the side which is 'downhill' and once leveled out continues from that one side. As a result it can be reading say 7.5 over all with 6.8 on on one side and 800 pounds on the other is this correct or a bug? Even in less G environments such as a gentle orbit before a case recovery I am getting a similar irregular feed. I haven't noticed this before the latest update but can't see anything in the changelog that might explain it? If anyone has any suggestions or explanations that would be gratefully recieved. With regards to replication I can send my logs or if you try a quick mission such as the B model BFM in the Marianas map you should see it as I have tried it 3 times with the same result each time.

Ace thanks both. It's the MGRS coordinates I was struggling with in te quick missions but after watching the vid and then checking the other points already in the system I realised I needed to enter additional info first which isn't on the kneeboard info. 3 out of 4 worked so I'm getting there thanks.
-
OK what am I missing? I understand this is me being a dullard but when using the quick play missions you have the option to add in some additional points. They start with 2 letters but the coordinates need 3 letters to register. I assumed that you left the first letter and entered in from there but doing so ends up with the point being way way off the map and clearly wrong. What am I doing wrong? Is this like the A10 where you have the 2 coordinate system? Any help would be great. Ta

missing info Strange flying attitudes
Indianajon posted a topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Since the latest update I have noticed that some AI aircraft are flying with very strange attitudes such as 60 degrees nose down whilst flying straight and level. I have only noticed it so far in the Spitfire whilst flying the Big Show campaign. This maybe primarily as I am in formation with a large group and so it is more obvious as opposed to it being aircraft specific. Has anyone else seen this? They fly fine and once in an 'active' environment such as BFM the issue vanishes, its only when flying straight and level where the situation appears present. -
Ah makes sense! I thought it was the AP that was causing the stab issue which is interesting.
-
All I can think of is I remember reading somewhere that the aircraft is set with a slight nose up attitude trim setting on the deck to help getting you in the air. My guess is that as you wouldn't normally use the AP on the deck it isn't set with that in mind, therefore it might aim for a level flight attitude? I suppose the main question is why you would want to engage the AP on the deck?

Simply had to share
Indianajon replied to Indianajon's topic in Spitfire LF Mk.IX The Big Show Campaign
Hey Greg, yes be my guest and thanks for all the hard work you do! Your campaigns are always pushing the boundaries. Upped yo this point zone 5 has always been my favourite but with the new ai and flak etc.... now I'm not so sure? I already have beware! beware! Your new mossie and your new F14 campaigns already on my wish list! -
So, like many, since the new flak, damage and map options, I have decided to work back through the various Spitfire campaigns ending with this one. Today I went up for the second mission, a large fighter sweep against Richoffen's lot. We hit the merge, aircraft everywhere with me quickly sliding to the rear of a 190. I gave chase but after several seconds I broke off, more concerned with staying alive and turning into a second aircraft I wasn't aware was lining up to shoot. After a brief 2 circle with him he went vertical and I got a no deflection shot at almost point-blank range. The first hit must have hit the fuel tank or something as I was blinded flying through a fireball. Rolling to the left I could see flames already pouring from underneath the stricken 190 and I pulled back into a tight circle looking for the next target. After several unsuccessful encounters I got onto the tail of 3 aircraft. The lead a 190, the other 2 spits. One managed to clip him and he started spitting oil. The FW slowed and pulled left making the spits overshoot and putting me in a perfect position. Half a second late, he two was flaming and as I broke off i spotted another 190 diving towards me. I turned into him, spoiling his shot and as we passed he dived away. A snap roll and I was diving after him. Catching up as he started to pull out of the dive I got a good second burst the nose to stern, right through centre mass. He again started to dive and piled straight in. By this time I was low, fast and unable to see anyone else. Deciding I had already used up much of my luck I pointed my nose for home and hedge hopped to the coast before climbing back up to about 10,000 and getting the engine into a more economic state. The channel never felt so big and I was registering just under 10 gallons when the Isle of White came into view. Landing back on fumes I had that feeling of wow! This is what I have read about! This is as close as I can get to what they went through! The kills I could imagine seeing in the old camera footage. This is why I love DCS. This is why I love the campaigns Reflected makes and I just wanted to share. I know it's just a game, I know it's not real but, right now, it feels a memorable sortie and in my other reality, the pixilated one, I'm already in the mess and buying the first round of the night.

Bugs & issues
Indianajon replied to Sandman Simulations's topic in DCS: F-14B Operation Sandworm Campaign
Hey Sandman. Really enjoying this so far. Brilliant work. Thanks. With regards to the downwind landing checklist I wonder if it would be easier if you press space to start it but that it then just works itself through at a steady pace. This way it would remind the player what to check, give that extra immersion but stop the need to keep pressing space when trying to keep the throttle etc in sync. Just a suggestion. Anyway thanks again. Been great fun. -
Hi IronMike, I have been experimenting a little this evening and I am not sure it is a bug sorry. Flying without ACLS switches works perfectly while flying with switches on is a real battle (I thought ACLS assistance only kicked in once you pressed nose wheel steering but it starts fighting as soon as you flip the switch so it's much harder to keep on glide slope etc). I'm guessing this is a me issue following the AP changes rather than a real issue. Once on the deck the same issue repeated following using the ACLS switches but I realised that for some reasonon the deck the button bind for the A/P toggle doesn't register, rather you have to use the mouse. As soon as you mouse click it off the stabs can be reset using trim. If it assists I can provide my log for 2 approaches. 1 with and 1 without but I think don't think it's a real bug.
-
Hi IronMike. I only did a single case recovery. Will try again tonight without flicking the ACLS switches and let you know. Thanks.
-
So this is a new one on me but after doing a case 3 (acls switches on but manually flown) my stabs are fully aft after landing. Pushing the stick full forward moves them but only about a quarter of the direction. Using trim did nothing. Only seen since latest update. Is this something I have done wrong or potential new bug? Flew fine down the chute but wouldn't reset on the deck. Didn't attempt another take off as assumed it would end in a uncontrollable nose high attitude.

What Helicopter Module do you wanna see next?
Indianajon replied to Tank50us's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I personally would love to see the Puma as I think it offers the user great versatility and would be alot of fun to fly. -
Hey IronMike feels like it's been a while since I asked so...... is it time yet?
-
DCS takes the simulations too literally to be fun or practical.
Indianajon replied to gotit's topic in New User Briefing Room
I'm not quite sure what point you are trying to make? The difficulty of it and the 'simulation' aspects are the exact reasons why I love this game. I love the fact that it has taken me years to reach the stage I am at, that when I think back on where I was and where I am now there is an element of pride. Combined with immersive campaigns like reflected Simulations it becomes, as you suggest, a real insight of past experiences. You don't need add ons to play this but you can buy them. If you don't like using keyboards then purchase some axis instead. Honeycomb make relatively cheap options. Short of building a full cockpit I'm not sure what would satisfy you? But, YouTube channels like the warthog project have shown, dcs is agile enough in its design to accommodate. The only limitations on this for you is how much you want to invest but I expect you will find yourself very much in the minority wanting to dumb this game down. There are countless dumbed down 'fun' flying games out there, only dcs gets my attention though and it's purely because it tries it's best to be a 'simulation'. It's not perfect, but it's the best that is out there by a long shot. -
Is there a way currently that DCS records the glideslopeon the supercarrier? I would love to be able to see how my approaches look from the outside and wondered you can review the PLATS footage after landing? Or if there is a button that sets it to record? If not it would be a fun addition.

...... erm....... maybe...... Good point, well made! Right back to the simpit I go! Thanks Razo+r

I will be honest, I don't know if this is a bug or if what I read is incorrect and you can't do a single engine reheat but... I read a story where in a turn reverse the pilot would also use asymmetric thrust to help speed the change in direction. Trying this it does work but I realised that both engines popped out of afterburner when I pulled on a single throttle. I have tried this with both a button as the gate and without. Is this correct? Or should you be able to still light one can?

Hi ED, I've been experimenting with this and find a distinct drop in VR. Plays silky smooth on monitor and all other modules. Have primarily been using the A10c2 as it has a similar monocle design in VR, again with no fps drop. If it would help I'm more than happy to upload tracks of all or some of these tests so you can see and compare. Is there anywhere specific I can upload tracks etc and is there anything in particular that would help? Good luck with it and loving the apache the more I play with it.
