  1. I have no issues with the inclusion of female or ethnic diverse pilot models, not in the slightest. I wouldn’t even care of the pilot would be randomised at mission start. It wouldn’t affect my gameplay or experience with DCS at all. I enjoyed Tomb Raider back in the days as well as Indiana Jones or Uncharted. Ot just doesn’t matter to me. I wonder though if I could even tell if there is a male or female underneath the helmet and flight suit? And I wonder even more of what relevance this is to high fidelity flight sim where the focus lays first on the Aircraft and Systems and second on putting warheads on foreheads. This isn’t a story driven RPG or Adventure, nor is it Sims or GTA. I think the whole discussion is a waste of energy related to DCS. There are other, more relevant, battlegrounds for this.
  2. Another benefit of killing the power service. That should take care of this.
  3. I didn‘t use this specific tool and don’t know about it, but something similar had helped me to trim windows down. My windows has <99 processes running after startup and settling to idle. I‘ll bet that most people have easily double that. More processes don’t necessarily hurt performance noticeable, but every process is a potential stutter to happen, so I like to keep them down on the gaming machine.
  4. Everything you don’t need. The fewer processes running, the better. Every third party app you don’t positively need. (Most won‘t have much or any impact, but keeping it tidy certainly does no harm). Check your autostart folder and task scheduler as well.
  5. Deactivate your realtime AV protection while playing or at least except all related folders from scanning. If you haven’t already. Damnit, slow again…. I‘m not sure this is from the power settings. Maybe, dunno.
  6. I‘m innocent!!! to be fair they didn’t specify when this week, did they?
  7. those are related, yes. But I can't tell with certainty if the powerplans influence additional things on top. Only thing I can tell wholeheartedly is, that I'm yet to notice any adverse effects by disabling the power service. (apart from the obvious of course) Actually, scrap that. By disabling the power service, you disable the powerplans for good. you basically set everything free. Problem is that, even set to high power settings, the service still makes frequent system calls/interrupts. A nice tool to see the latency hogs on your system is LatencyMon btw.
  8. I know for some folks feel uncomfortable about it, but when on a desktop system, I would really encourage people to disable the power service. This process is responsible for all things related to power savings. Including such things as putting hdds or monitors in suspense mode. The issue with this process is two-fold. First of all, when you're interested in ultimate unrestrictive performance, you don't want any of your PCs features to go to sleep. Almost more important than this is, that this process is notorious for flushing the system with interrupts which can lead to (micro-) stuttering. Last but not least, the service can be easily disabled and re-enabled again. Though enabling really only makes sense if you are concerned with power saving.
  9. Exactly. My personal experience and taste would say yes. No problem. But there are people that disregard anything below 20 lbs pull force as insufficient and unrealistic (those are in favor of the FFBeast which is currently the only FFB-Stick (that I know of) which can deliver such forces).
  10. Splendid!
  11. Yeah, you still need to tweak the relative gain between different effects and DCS to your individual taste. my work around for now is, once I adjusted everything I try to remember to only use the main windows volume only instead of the ingame audio-sliders. It's tough though, because there are several different occasions (playing alone with or without headphones, playing with somebody on discord, being inside the cockpit or in F2 etc) where I used to just adjust the main volume inside DCS. It's no deal breaker of course. It would just improve creature comfort.
  12. Just an unsolicited appreciation post. I was using the C-101 for IFR training over the weekend (well, it's a trainer, isn't it) and I was reminded (again) what a labor of love this module is. Really flying by the numbers, managing the limited amounts of power while utilizing the superb flight director really is very satisfying. btw. is it still maintained/ in further development?
  13. This is what makes the Rhino so great (with the TelemFFB software). You can have a complete set of effects in any aircraft including force trim on a hardware level if necessary. (I didn’t even notice the Chinook was lacking) Granted, if the sim doesn‘t support proper ffb from the control surfaces on the stick, you are limited to secondary effects. But those very basics are present in most modules. And the creator of Telem really did a phenomenal job in creating a plethora of useful and immersive effects, lots of them customisable in great depth. And he hasn‘t stopped developing new ones so far.
  14. Bonus idea: Make sure wake turbulence is deactivated in the game settings (can be hard on cpu) Also check the frametime graph for what is bottlenecking you. CPU or GPU
  15. Only two suggestions from the top of my head: deactivate the real time protection of your AV while playing DCS (or at least set an exception for all relevant folders). Set up a fixed pagefile size (I‘d suggest 32GB).
  16. Yeah, I had set a 6-14 knots headwind and some turbulence but changing that all to zero didn’t help. Still no ILS beacon.
  17. Good point. I will double check.
  18. Hey, I was about to practice IFR approaches in the C-101CC, but the ILS beacon Rio Grande (109.5) doesn't seem to work. The VOR (117,3) works fine. Of course there's the possibility I did something wrong setting it up in the cockpit, but I think I double checked everything. Can anyone confirm? TY
  19. Just use Altitude hold mode when you want to fly hands off for a prolonged period of time. That‘s what it‘s meant for.
  20. You mean, you can't upload it? Sorry, no idea. So far it always worked for me.
  21. That would pretty much depend on which AV you are running. If it is any other than the default MS defender - my personal opinion - get rid of it. It does more harm than good. (Mainly slows things down and confuse with false positives). The best protection against viruses is staying clear of fishy websites and file sharing. More general advise - when you have a file flagged as suspicious by your AV, upload it to virustotal.com and let it check.
  22. Since you guys are so comfortable with modding your MSFFBs, you are predestinated for the Rhino DIY-Kit. I mean, I know it is still very expensive even as a Kit, but it'll be a BIG improvement over the Sidewinder.
  23. Maybe I'll give it another try eventually. The software really was my biggest gripe. That was some time ago now though. If it has improved that much....
  24. Den DCS Launcher kannst Du ja deaktivieren.
  25. I tried and tested Tobii and eventually stayed with TrackIR. Even though you can improve it with settings, I never got completely rid of a noticable input lag. I didn't like the software (which is amongst other problems pretty heavy on resources compared to TrackIR) and all in all, it didn't improve my experience over TrackIR. The only "issue" with TrackIR, and therefore the main benefit of Tobii (imho) is the additional device on your head or lack thereof. But that really only bothers me when I play alone and don't wear a headset anyway.
