  1. I am still curious about this as well. Wags did mention there would be an option to map terrain onto a spherical earth, but I wonder if ED is doing that with their stuff, including Black Sea.
  2. Some things maybe people are curious about, and yes, I know it's WIP, but for example: 1) Looking straight ahead through the HUD, is the point of focus on the terrain, airplane, or sky in front of the airplane or is it on the HUD? 2) Looking straight ahead but wanted to check the MFCD quick just by darting your eyeballs down. Essentially you would have to point the center of the screen down to the MFCD to bring it in focus. It would be interesting to see how they implement this for sure. Either way, I think it looks quite amazing. I'm excited as hell for EDGE. (I actually haven't even been flying because I'm seeing all these screenshots and don't want to fly in our current rendering engine!)
  3. Yeah, nice to see I'm not just going crazy thinking about how off the GBU 38s are.
  4. That's a silly way to look at it. I have never used TARS because I don't feel like installing a 3rd party program and then modding it. If it were integrated in DCS: World, I bet more multiplayer servers would be a lot more lively. 90% of servers I've flown on people are still communicating via text. I don't think it would be a waste of time and money at all, and would help improve the multiplayer experience greatly. (especially for players that don't want to dabble with more modding and 3rd party programs) Now that's not to say I'd rather see EDGE and DCS: F-18C first, but it would be a nice addition down the road.
  5. http://sim.unigine.com/platform/built_for_simulation/ http://sim.unigine.com/platform/visual_fidelity/ I would so love for a company that develops for Consumer PC market picks this engine up and gives us a flight sim. Maybe Combat Helo will use it.

  7. Can anyone please confirm if they've got the rift working with an AMD card? It's the only other thing I can think of that would be causing the black screen. I'm not sure I understand what you mean.. There is nothing "updated" when you get the new SDK is there? I downloaded it and it just unzips where ever I unzip it. Nothing installs or updates. The only thing that can be "updated" is the Firmware on the Rift, which there is no new version with the new SDK.
  8. Yeah, I also have an AMD card, and I get a black screen without the new .dll but with it I get a crash.
  9. Does the latest RC2 update for 1.2.8 beta still need the visualizer.dll from this thread or has that been added now? Thanks EDIT: New visualizer.dll is still crashing the game for me. Guess I'm waiting for official support :(
  10. Yeah, might even be more fun when the terrain mesh is actually detailed enough to look good!
  11. Good point. I myself like to stay in the "mid range" area when it comes to video cards / TVs. I'm actually waiting until 4k becomes a little more common before I upgrade my video card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G1FB3694 They're not tooooo far off =)
  12. Honestly, you don't need a 4gb card right now.. but why wouldn't you future proof yourself? I mean, 4k resolution is on the way, right now, and the Consumer Rift is going to be higher than 1080p. You probably already ordered the card but, my 2 cents is get a card that will last you at least a few years, higher resolution is coming.
  13. When your girlfriend knows what an APU is, and, more importantly, what it sounds like.
  14. Confirmed. Still missing rotor shadows in cockpit view. And... what makes you say that? Looks more like a bug to me.
  15. You think spotting will be easier in the rift?
  16. Think of it like this. What's easier? to spot a moving vehicle on a road, THEN determine if it's a target, or friendly, or civilian. -OR- to not be able to spot anything moving on a road, and search every square foot of road surface until you come across your target? So, we're back to square one. How can we possibly make the sim compensate for the poor resolution and FOV of our computer monitors compared to real life eyesight?
  17. ^ This. This pretty much sums it up. Ever try to look for a convoy at 15,000 feet in DCS? Without a zoomed in FOV, it's near impossible. Same goes for airplanes. Same goes for all the detail in the game quite honestly. With a zoomed in FOV, things start to look pretty accurate, but we loose our peripheral vision in the game. (not to mention keeping Track IR steady when you're zoomed in full.) I do understand why it's difficult to fix this problem, because if you scale up vehicles to match a more "zoomed FOV" the vehicles no longer match the terrain (or whatever is behind them.) So it is a compromise, but to be honest, Smart scaling vehicles/planes seems to be one of the best options for overcoming the 1080p monitor.
  18. Aircraft lighting definitely could use some improvement, and would solve a lot of the issues around airports and formation flying. I tried playing DCS with my brother (who isn't a huge sim fan but wanted to check out DCS because of me bragging about it) and we were flying around P-51s and spent most of the time trying to spot each other with all my aircraft lights on. I would love smart scaling or reflections (BF3 snipers) just as a "helper." A server should be able to force it disabled just like any other helper. But for practicing, single player, flying online with my brother, it would be great to see each other while flying, or point out some ground targets, without seeing red labels everywhere.
  19. I actually made a post about this a while back. You are getting two different speeds because you have 2 different speeds set up in the Mission Editor. You need to set the same speed for the two waypoints for the racetrack orbit AND the orbit speed in the advanced waypoint set-up.
  20. :music_whistling: :thumbup:Feel free to upgrade all the building textures, you know.. because you're amazing.
  21. +1 This basically sums it up. Regardless of a few minor things people are "picking apart," I think we're all excited for NTTR map and I for one am looking forward to this more than any future module.
  22. Hi, I've noticed when starting the Huey from a cold start, the engine audio kind of "pops" into the engine idle sound from the start-up sound. I usually start the chopper with my doors open, so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. I'll record a video or make a track if need be. Thanks!
  23. Glad all that was clarified. I'm also very happy I got FC3 on sale =)
  24. I actually still get just a black screen when I try to run DCS with "Auto Detect Oculus Rift" setting enabled. If I un-check that, I can put the monitor settings to "Stereo" and I get a picture on the screen (although it's all skewed) Does the new .dll fix that also, or just the skewing?
  25. I'm pretty sure they are having a conversation about the SDK THEY(not Alex) are currently using.
