  1. "20-50 lb bombs each with their own targeting ability", that was what I responded to. Having eyes on the ground is very different scenario.
  2. Just do a quick Google search and take a look at what human pilots could not distinguish between the decoys and real targets during NATO military use over Yugoslavia. Let a lone a little camera in the bomb, with an intelligence of a cockroach, dangling left and right on the chute ... That thing could be fooled with very simple decoys. Take a look at this new decoys.
  3. That is exactly right, A-10's could not find the targets. But that for sure did not mean that Yugoslavian military units were unable to move. Yugoslavian military defeated KLA in the first few days of the war. During that time even our attack airplanes flew missions over Kosovo and Metohija. With KLA defeated, there was no ground forces to fight. Therefore, military units simply camouflaged itself and were waiting for NATO ground troops. Thus, A-10's were really useless, they could not go low, because of the IC SAM's, including a home made R-73's converted to SAM version. That's the whole point of the book and of my and Nikola's argument. The book is perfectly clear in stating the same thing. And the Newsweek magazine article from May 2000 is right on the money with the analysis of the conflict, also stating the same thing. Reminder: SAM = Stealth STOP! (see GG's signature)
  4. 4C stands for an old Serbian saying that goes "Само Слога Србина Спашава".
  5. Did you see order of battle in the Gulf War? Not sure about the Desert storm when it comes to the order of battle. Then flat, desert terrain without air defenses is like flying a training mission over your home country.
  6. I do agree that the book is a great read. I did not enjoy it, however.
  7. Don't debate me. Let us debate the facts in that article. And compare them with the "A-10's Over Kosovo" book. It seems that the Newsweek article and the A-10's Over Kosovo book are pretty equal in their assessment. The fact is, and it says numerous time throughout the book that A-10 were flying high. And the Newsweek article has a very good explanation on why.
  8. It is a media report based on obtained, official military report. Factually, that Newsweek article was very accurate. As Nikola properly noted, by simple mathematics, that makes A-10 effectiveness even worse. I already agreed with Noodle's comment (see my response to his comment above). Yes, one can say that the glass is 1% full of water, and play dumb when the question is posed about how empty it is. Indeed, a lot depends on how you look at it. But objective observer will say that the glass is 1% full and 99% empty.
  9. I agree with you. Also, that Newsweek article clearly states that as well. Well, NATO had no stake whatsoever in this use of military power, therefore, targets were chosen so as to completely eliminate possible loss of NATO aircraft. Same with ROE's. Thus, A-10 flew lot's of missions doing nothing.
  10. Here's another opinion, specifically dealing with mobile targets, Tanks and APC's and etc. And, that was the A-10 job, that's what the A-10 were built for. And this is not a Serbian newspaper nor Serbian propaganda. It was a Newsweek magazine, which I use to have the original copy of. And I gave it to a person to read the article and he lost it ... Anyway, take a look at this Newsweek article from May of 2000: http://www.newsweek.com/kosovo-cover-160273
  11. A 10's did not do much over Yugoslavia. This book clearly states that. There was several large scale attacks of Albanian military with A-10 CAS, which I don't remember was describe in the book. But none of those attacks was successful because A-10 did not fly low enough to do anything really useful. Only few mobile equipment tanks and APC's were hit, and that was mostly because of the KLA FAC's working on the ground.
  12. Who was the enemy here? Taliban? Was this from Afghanistan theater?
  13. Russian cargo ship docks with space station
  14. This is military and aviation news thread. I would like to see military news from Russia and Ukraine.
  15. After 1999, I know for a fact that our media, as well as our military/political establishment is not to be believed a word about international affairs. My distrust was further reinforced with the recent war in Iraq. Even with Crimea, I can see that we are putting our self's deeper and deeper in a la-la land about who we are and what the truth and freedom is about. Therefore, with every passing day, our media is a step closer to what media in Communist countries use to be when it comes to international affairs. Therefore both of these documentaries are not to be trusted. BTW, domestic affairs is completely different matter, and truth in reporting, and making documentaries, is at a completely different level and standard. PS I took a Crimea as an example, because it is fresh in our minds. Here is one simple fact/example. All of you probably heard our president, our senators and congressmen saying again, and again and again, that Russia broke international law over Crimea. But, have you heard ONCE, from any of our senators, congressmen or a president, from any of the major media, or from any media in USA, an analysis of WHICH international law Russia broke over Crimea? You haven't and there is a good reason why you haven't.
  16. I placed my order on January 8. And expected delivery date is May 6 to May 8.
  17. You are right. I've just checked my preorder at Amazon and it moved to May the 1st as well.
  18. O .. yeah? Not even close ... huhhh. What is Hellfire range then, 100km? What exactly do you mean by not even close? BTW, what is the range of the Finish (Finland's) AGM for modern helicopters?
  19. How about this book, if you can afford it: Mikoyan MiG-29 (Famous Russian Aircraft)
  20. So, they are flying blind? They could do that before Crimea crisis.
  21. Sure, those as well. If we can see a radio wave that's millions if not billions of light years away, I am sure, LPR/I radio waves can be detected a well. BTW, L stands for "Low", therefore it is visible, but has low visibility. Perfect opportunity for gathering frequencies.
  22. Su-25T is my favorite aircraft as well. I would love to see a 3D cockpit for the super-frog! :)
