Yep. But you don't have to buy it if you don't want to. . G2 is an excelent product and indeed super good value for money. Only drawback is tiny tiny sweet spot and WMR's inferior integration (compared to Varjo Base)
-
I would not call it night and day. To me the main benefit is that no matter where your eyes look the image is sharp and no fogging of lenses. The rest is software and not sure the headset will do much about it.

Users with older cards have actually reduced the resolution on the varjo to get better fps. That way you still get superb sweet spot and resolution is still really good anyway. On my side I believe fps is about same with G2 or Aero.
-
for the time being there is no reprojection avail with the aero so hard to compare apples with oranges but have not noticed any issues. Have not run an avg fps count but everything has been smooth button on the headset brings a small menu in vr where you can switch between app (so DCS.exe and Workspace). Workspace is the varjio home where you can see your screens. Btw...Aero uses two screens and your video card likely only supports 4 monitors so if, like me, u have 3 monitors then you need to turn one off to use the Aero

I like: Very good GUI / integration (Varjo Base) with destop/workspace in VR and easy switching between destop and vr application view within the Headset Very wide sweetspot. No need to move your head around anymore to read dials / find buttons. Just move your eyes. Everything is sharp except the very edge of the display. Superb resolution + clarity. Auto IPD measurment Fans...no fogging FOV: similar to G2 but everything is sharp I like less Find it less comfortable than G2 on my head. No integrated audio so need to have separate headphones ... more wires + more difficult to remove headset. IMPORTANT!: To get the correct visual experience and comfort you need to take some time finding how to wear the headset. initially it tends to lean too much on your cheekbones... bad for visual and very bad for comfort. I found that the best is to place the neck rest low on the head, then adjust the forehead pad to have the lenses in the middle of your view and then tilt the headset to have it AWAY from your face, ie.not on the nose and not on the cheekbones. If it slips after a fierce dogfight and you feel it on the cheekbones or nose, pull the back/neck pad down again. I found this helped a lot not just with comfort but also with visuals/distortions. Conclusion: Did think about possibly returning it after a week, but after another week using it everything came together and there is no way i'd go back to my old friend G2. Visuals are so much better, spotting distant aircrafts or ground vehicles is soooo much easier and natural. Comfort is now really good too.

You may want to add the link to that new thread here?

I have a similar setup in a totally white room with nothing around except for the obutto cockpit and the G2 tracks fine in it. Worth trying posters etc though.

definitely point straight ahead of you when setting default position. Where your screen or PC is is irrelevant. all the headset wants to know is where do you naturally look when flying. Provided you have enough ambiant light the black curtain should not matter really but you can always check by opening it.

DCS VR not starting (goes to monitor instead VR) in Win 11
Brainfreeze replied to gman066's topic in Virtual Reality
I do not have any loss of FPS with Win11 but then also have a 12th Gen i5 CPU. Do check the 'startup' / background processes that the Win install default with (Teams in particular) they can be interfering quite a lot. -
I'm hoping you already have the answer for this.

Resolution is set through settings in SteamVR, not the Steam app for me. once SteamVr is running (smaller window) go to settings / video. That's how I do it -
DCS VR not starting (goes to monitor instead VR) in Win 11
Brainfreeze replied to gman066's topic in Virtual Reality
I had a couple of instances after upgrading when DCS did not show up in the vr headset but the 'VR image' was on the monitor. Was unrelated to Win11 but to SteamVr. quitting SteamVR / restarting WMR repluging headset sorted this one out. Might be totally unrelated to your issue though. -
both settings are in the control panel setting list
-
Is this the 'Background Application Max Frame Rate' or the 'Max Frame Rate' setting in the Nvidia Control Panel or both that you set at 45fps?

Virpil ships from Belarus. Varjo from China
-
Doubt there is anything like a 'geographical preference' ... would think it is more to do with logistics / customs / shipping / distributors and the likes
-
Well DCS does anyway. Issue is more what for. I know I cannot trust Facebook which will collect my data unrelated to them and use it / sell it to someone else without my knowledge. They won't even tell me what data they collect (no I have not read the multiple T&C revisions ). ED does not tell me either to be honest. If Varjo 'connects' just to ensure software is up to date and not to gather info about what I do , where I live and how many kids I have then I am fine with it.

seen this on varjo website... Varjo Aero When setting up Varjo Aero for the first time, you will need an internet connection to log in with your Varjo Account. Choose “Remember me” on the login screen to avoid having to log in every time. After logging in, you can use the headset without an internet connection. Varjo Base will periodically ask you to log in again, at which point you will again need an internet connection. Not sure what periodically means...

Broken with latest release... In AV8B the UFC switches automatically to Eastern entry after inputting Northern coordinates... no need to to press the key for that. Anyway we can easily fix that in DCS waypoint editor?

saved games \ DCS.openbeta folder. not config

hmm bizarre... All of mine are clearly named after the headset name (HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset G20.lua for example)

Priceless little tutorial! Thanks Archduke

Not sure G2 offers enough vs Q2 to justify upgrade. Would just wait for next gen/iteration to come out short of being able to fork 3k for the varjo

Noticed this on MP for a while now that very often the nose wheel does not actually rotate at all graphically. So watching external view, the airframe is turning with its nosewheel fixed in the straight position. I fly in VR only and noticed this in MP seeing other squadron aircrafts moving around with a fixed nosewheel. Not sure if due to server sync issues or something and have not checked if my own aircraft is affected. Just putting it out there if soemone else has noticed this

Nice Razbam...bring an update but forget to let people what they need to change... Gun trigger ... well one should have an epiphany and know instantly that this should now be rebinded to MicroB/trigger 2nd stage and that the Gun trigger (still there in hotas menu) is useless. Think about users and give proper doc / update to keybind changes to help people transition to the new models Edit: So hotas info is p38 in manual. where stage 1 and 2 are described in a table. There is no 'table of changes' I have seen but then I did not fancy sifting through the 500+ pages of the manual to figure out other changes so will discover them the hard way

Cool. Thks for that. Very clear now. Out of interest...why i7 instead of cheaper i5 ... given DCS is single threaded?
