I totally agree. The Mi-8 is seriously underrated, I think it's the best helicopter in DCS. The module is crying out for some love from the developers. I'm hoping the lessons learned in creating the Hind will filter down to the Eight at some point. I too would be happy to pay for an upgrade similar to what happened witht the A-10. Stupid little things like the head position limits when using TrackIR so you can't see the spotlight switch properly in the lower left of the Pilot Commander panel....argh!!!

winter update still on track? (yak-52 candlelit vigil)
ratherbegliding replied to twistking's topic in DCS: Yak-52
Hi everyone, Well, it's certainly nice to see some vibrant discourse on the Yak-52 forum - just goes to show how loved the module still is, despite it's issues. Two other reasons to get this module not mentioned thus far are: 1) It's one of the few modules I actually have a snowball's chance in hell of flying IRL. So I am happy to use it to familiarise myself with the systems and procedures. 2) ...and I can't believe nobody has mentioned this....BUSH FLYING!! There is a mod in User Files which adds in some small grass strips.... ton of fun. That said, I sadly must confess that it's been a while since I last flew her in DCS..... must set up a nice sunset flight this weekend +1 to the 'please finish this module' crowd. RBG -

This server is brilliant - highly addictive! Please bring it back soon -
Hi Northstar98, So then that leads me on to my next question.....are there any consequences to flying around with oil temps in the red? (I know I wouldn't like to try it in real life!) RBG
-
reported Overheated oil does not have any impact on the engine.

Hi there, Similar thing happens in the Yak-52..... -
Dare I ask....... Have there been any improvements in the last 9 months? Just started flying this again and oil temp is still stuck in the red no matter what I try. Is there any hope for this poor little module??? :(
-
Got to say I agree with everyone else...at $10 this is a no-brainer. Just buy it. I love the fact that we can fly two versions of the A-10C now....I hope they never de-activate/withdraw support for the old one. Am enjoying re-acquainting myself with the most in-depth/most fully complete, complex module eg systems, damage model, campaigns etc My 2c. :)

Hi everyone, Not trying to upset anyone here, this is just a bit of fun! Which modules do you consider to most faithfully reproduce the subject airframe? In other words, if you could, which modules are so complete and accurate that you could jump in the real thing and stand a reasonable chance of flying it without killing yourself? I think we need different categories to be fair: 1) Jets 2) WWII aircraft 3) Helicopters I try to gauge the answer by reading the real life flight manuals and trying to use the checklists in them with DCS. From that perspective the Huey and Mi-8 seem pretty damn good! ;) RBG

I recommend this: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3043393/ Read the instructions first, may seem confusing at first, but it's not that bad. :) -
Ha ha! Well, this thread has helped ease my guilt at spending more than I intended during the sale :) The Harrier is one of my all time favourite airframes (grew up watching them as a kid and have even sat in a couple). Really pleased to finally be able to fly it in DCS :D RBG

So now we need to have the Ka-50 instead of the Huey to make it flyable? :( -

But it's AI only right? Not flyable? :( Updated: Apologies, just read the earlier posts. Good news indeed. Waiting patiently. ;) -

ratherbegliding replied to Hawkeye60's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Hi again, Apologies, RL got in the way yesterday. File is in here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/x6gmq6z2ezsmrgu/AAAL267qmFdjViZp0MHAEQfVa/MODS/Bell47-G_Alpha?dl=0&lst=&subfolder_nav_tracking=1 I have the A4 and MB339 installed. I tried removing those directories from my Saved Games directory but it had no effect on the Bell47. Good luck! -

Ok, so managed to find a later version of the bell47_2_collision.edm file and not getting that error now....(dated 09/06/19). Now I'm left with the n3d-crush109a.edm file still causing an error..... Limited progress. -

ratherbegliding replied to Hawkeye60's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Hi there, Thanks for the tip. Found these two lines which include the word 'wrong': 2019-09-30 06:34:14.167 ERROR NGMODEL: The following exception was caught: Wrong version of model file.. During loading of: //models/n3d-crush109a.edm. 2019-09-30 06:34:14.397 ERROR NGMODEL: Can't load lod bell47_2_collision.edm of model . Reason: Wrong version of model file. Any of these likely to prevent 'entering the cockpit? Anyone care to explain what they mean? It's frustrating because the model looks gorgeous!!! Thanks :) -

ratherbegliding replied to Hawkeye60's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Hi, Anyone get this working in 2.5.5 (not the beta)? I have: - installed the v2 in the mods/aircraft/ folder under Saved Games - copied the BIN folder across from the UH-1 - set up the controls I see the module in the menu screen. Created a simple mission with the aircraft set to 'player'. Mission starts but I'm locked out of the cockpit/ starts in map mode..... I can see it as an AI aircraft only (despite the above 'player' setting). Been here over an hour with no luck :/ Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thx -
Program runs fine and I can fly the UH-1 easily but ...

Hi there g3air, If you don't mind me asking, what are your impressions of the MFS UH-1 4.0 system? It looks really nice on their website but the price is a bit of a concern for me. Thanks, RBG -
Do you have a long white beard??? Are you normally really busy at this time of year? :smilewink: Count me in! RBG

Yes please!!!! Merry Christmas everyone! :smilewink:

What he said.

Is it dependent on the time of day? Eg I would expect any thermal effect to happen between 10:00 and 20:00, say, but ground effect would be there all the time. RBG

I guess it all comes down to economics - how many units are they likely to sell at X dollars given that the competing product is basically free. Hopefully a positive experience with the F18 (and F5) sales plus the assets developed from that project will help to convince ED/another developer of the appetite out there for this airframe and help establish a valid business case. The Viper would certainly fit right in on the Nevada map! RBG PS And just for the avoidance of doubt, an F16 would be a day 1 purchase for me too!
-
Ah, but this being DCS - which year? Seriously though, great work. ;) RBG
