Need help with mission editor
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Sytse's topic in User Created Missions General
Rank and Cone. One thing about this is that occasionally I have had a ground unit group simply stop when I had it changing formation between off-road, rank and cone. I seem to recall it was dependent on the number of units in the group. During your mission creation, you might want to do a mission run through (at accelerated speed) watching your ground units to double check they do change formations correctly and actually travel all the way to where you want. While I'm talking about the ME and ground units - don't forget they can't cross rivers unless you have them on-road and using bridges. Also, if a vehicle is off-road and in hilly terrain, it can only handle a gentle slope, it won't go up or down any kind of vaguely steep hill. -

I think it is a feature rather than a Bug for MP. As you might have many folks taking off from an airbase in a big MP mission, then "forcing" them to start from parking area means that they can all be assigned a starting spot to spawn. Otherwise they would likely spawn on top of each other on the runway and explode. Of course starting on the parking area means that you need to choose your airbase carefully as the taxi time to the runway fom the parking area can vary a great deal between the airbases. Check this thread, http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=10922 It shows the taxi time for AI to get to the runway but is somewhat relevant to players too, most serious squadrons don't taxi at insane speeds. -
User mission notes on knee pads?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to hreich's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Maybe the guy, Nicolas Besson, that did LOBrief (which adds in exactly that info on your legs in basic LOMAC) will do a Black Shark version? http://pagesperso-orange.fr/nicoleon/index_ev.htm -
Yeah a great piece of investigative work by the bird man....

can multiple aircraft use a common nav point / route.
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to G3's topic in User Created Missions General
I'm sure I recall a post made by IronHand a while ago (but might not have been on this particular Lockon forum) about this. I think he would set up one mission with all the waypoints for just one aircraft. Then open a new mission (the final product) and merge in the 1st mission several times to get his multiple flights. Finally he would edit them into CLIENT and save. -

GAI Ground Assisted Intercept. Put an aircraft on an airbase without any waypoints, set TASK to GAI. It will sit on the tarmac and only scramble when the radar on the airbase detects a threat. You can experiment to determine the scramble range, I can't remember what it is, maybe 50 miles? I seem to recall that if you add other friendly radars into the mission, then they will scramble at greater range? But don't quote me on that, experiment with that too. CAS Close Air Support, ie attacking ground targets. -
I actually managed to get hold of that tune Chris Raven - "I know you love me too" on 12" vinyl second hand from EBay. Sweet.... Flanker is still on my all time Lockon movie Top 10 list.

Campaign save - inflight possible?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to hreich's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
It's fubar'ed. Never worked for me or for most other folks as far as I know. I recall from reading stuff on the Forum's years ago that ED looked at this problem, it was gonna be a total b**** to fix, so it won't be. They have better things to be working on and it's not a real showstopper. Usual advice is don't start a mission unless you have time to complete it. -
Fly the friendly (Lockon) skies.....

Cool stuff Mate! -
As Goya said, set up some wind in the Weather Menu and Lockon will automatically swap the ILS to the other end of the runway. Be warned that for some of the airfields in the Caucasus, the swapped-around ILS will try to fly you into a hill. I won't tell you which ones, it will be more fun for you to find out yourself, LOL. Especially on a stormy night landing with low cloud and some bumpy turbulence ;) Sadly there is no way to force the ILS to land you at a secondary runway eg Sochi-Adler's 02/20. To land there in either direction, you'll have to do a visual approach. Respect to you for wanting to try instrument approaches from different directions and exploring what Lockon has to offer. Makes a change from kids whining after flying Lockon for a week - I want more flyables, I'm bored with the Black Sea map, etc. As for the junior / senior stuff, who cares? I'm sure it is based on how many posts. Personally I judge folks by the quality of their posts not the quantity. Rep seems to be a better measure of this. If someone regularly posts helpful and informative stuff, then they will get repped up by others....

Imagine you are looking at a painting hanging on the wall. Lock your eye on it, now turn your head to the left, but keep looking at the painting. At the point where you are looking out of the corner of your eye and can only just still see the painting, that is the gimbal limit of your eyeball. Now imagine you are in your Su-27 and your radar has locked up a bandit and you have launched at him. Turn your plane to the left. As you do so - watch the radar Head Down display. As you turn, you can see the radar beam moving to the right to keep the lock. Keep turning your plane until you are just about at the radar's gimbal limit. Now you are still guiding your missile at the bandit but because you have turned somewhat to the left (and perhaps climbing and slowing down too), you are not closing the distance to the bandit as fast as you were previously. This can prevent him launching at you if he has shorter range missiles than you. This turn is what folks mean when they talk about an F-Pole manouevre.

Su-25T in a littoral environment
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to tflash's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yeah, I was rather surprised to read that the Perry's have now had their Mk-13 missile launcher removed since the SM1-MR Standard missiles are now at the end of their service life. That leaves them with just the 76mm gun and the CIWS and the helo. -
adding another a-10 for online play ?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to littlejohn1959's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
IronHand made a video that gives a pretty good introduction to the lockon GUI and Mission Editor. It is called getting Started Part I. In Part II, he flies the mission so you can see how it plays. http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/flightbasics.htm -

Yes, that is how you have to do it. -
original and 1.12b mission editor, does it matter?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to G3's topic in User Created Missions General
Things that spring to mind are a) you won't be able to generate any Su-25T missions. b) you won't be able to place static buildings as that ability was added in FC. I guess the obvious answer is to try to fly a v1.02 mission in FC and see if it works. I've never tried it myself. I've tried flying FC missions on a v1.02 setup in the past, and they worked reasonably well. -
Map making, are there unit limitations?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to CapnGimp's topic in User Created Missions General
Based on my slight Sim programming knowledge from back in the day when I was a Computer Science student, I reckon that the answer is Yes those inactive units will affect FPS to some degree, for the simple fact that the Sim has to check those inactive units periodically to see if it is now time to make them active. As long as they continue to be inactive then the Sim doesn't have to do any serious processing for them regarding their movement, visibility on radar to active units etc. -

Try what IronHand said. That fix has dealt with many problems in the past, it is worth a try... -

Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Glowing_Amraam's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Great movie from Super_Vasya :) and a cool dance soundtrack too. Would never have thought of using Cowgirl in a Lockon movie, but it has some obvious great hooks in it "Feel like flying too", "I'm invisible". I still have my decks and DJ the occasional housepartyand despite its age Cowgirl is still a cracking tune, it still goes down a storm. Prefer the Bedrock mix myself. I was lucky enough in 2000 to see Underworld play live at the V festival ( http://www.vfestival.com ), a hot, sweaty, exhausting experience. Leftfield and Groove Armada had been on the previous night, hence it took a week for my feet to recover.... Later this year at the 2008 V Festival , my feet have The Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers to look forward to. The Chemical Brothers presumably without Chemical Ali :smilewink: Is the footage of the Jaguar from the forthcoming AdA Mod part II or is it something ED are adding for BS? Made me think that if someone made a Lockon Jaguar movie, they could use Jaguar by DJ Rolando - a beautiful piece of Detroit techno ( ) -

Holy Smoke Batman, I think the BatCopter needs a service......... -
A few posts ago, =4c=Hajduk Veljko asked a sensible question. So to get the thread back on track as it has got kinda political.... My answer would be:- First imagine yourself flying a Lockon mission. If you are anything like myself, 10 mins into the mission, everything esle has dissapeared. You ARE 100% in that Cockpit and when that SAM or AAA comes up at you, you are breathing hard and slightly freaked out! Now imagine you are the UAV operator, you are actually flying a real aircraft. I'm sure the feeling of it being your skinny @ss in it is even more real than Lockon. Now imagine you see that MiG coming your way. You are pumped up and yelling for your boss to "come look at this!!". Now you see the missile launch!! AAAAARGH!!! I'M GONNA DIE!!!!! Then the screen goes blank and you realise you are still alive. You also discover that adrenalin is actually warm, brown and you are sitting in some.... I'm amazed he even had the thought or reflexes to zoom in on the missile, I doubt I would've.
