Favourite Airbase (in game)
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to DTWD's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Novo - odd they built over it, you would've thought a large city like that would have kept it as a civilian airport. Back on topic - favorite airports: Crimea. All a bit dull really, but if I had to pick one it would be Dzhankoy runway 05 at night as you have nice city lights either side. Caucasus. Sochi-Adler, landing VFR on the (unnumbered) second runway from the mountain side. Krasnodar Central landing at night on runway 27 coming over the lake and then the city lights of Kalinino. Gaudata landing on runway 33 at night (or a foggy day) and suddenly seeing the lighthouse. ...and of course Novo or Gelendzhik at night / bad weather on ILS with the wind set so it swaps the landing direction to bring you in from the land side - LOL. -
Looking for new A10 / Mig missions
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to kivdw's topic in User Created Missions General
Try these links. Some are quite old v1.02, some are FC. Should keep you busy for a while. http://www.dpsflight.com/CampaignList.htm http://www.lucas-digital.com/gaming/lomac/lomac_missions.html http://www.666th.org/downloads.php?cat_id=1 http://homepage.ntlworld.com/maddogmcq/myart/eshot/missions.html http://www.geocities.com/jzoomiethomas/flightsims.html http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showcat=1 ...and finally one of my own, just remember it's called Smerch Hunt (not Shilka Hunt!!) http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=142&lid=36&ttitle=A-10_Smerch_Hunt#dldetails -
Place your aircraft in the air eg 4,000metres over a flat piece of the map, eg middle of the Crimea. Set time to 0200 hours and set the day to 1, look for the Moon. Then try day 2, day 3 day 4 etc etc. If you still cannot see the Moon then I think there is something wrong with your Lockon installation.

My background is Ground based radars, neverthless two things spring to mind as possibilities in airborne systems. 1) With the newer LPI aircraft radars, using continuous IFF interrogations would defeat the object of having an LPI radar as the enemy could easily detect your IFF interrogations. 2)In a real war, the first thing that any pilot would do is switch off his transponder from replying to Mode 1,2,3 or C interrogations, as any interrogator (friendly, enemy or civilian) can get his transponder to reply. He would only allow replies to Mode 4. Consequently, the continuous use of mode 1,2,3,C interrogations would be pointless (no friendlies would reply) and may give away your position. Much more likely is that pilot action is required to trigger a Mode 4 interrogation. Mode 4 is a very old (1950's technology) encrypted system, with codes that are changed each day. But as with all encrypted systems, the more data the enemy have to work with, the easier it is to crack the code for the day. Therefore you are cautious with generating interrogations, thus continuous Mode 4 interrogation is frowned upon.

Only AI can do it. You have the option of using F2 to swap to view of an AI still in the HAS and using ALT/J to Jump into his cockpit, and then taxi out of the HAS. Fun to do once or twice..... When returning, you have to wait till the AI is close enough that the doors open for him, then Jump into his cockpit and taxi in.

Was in Poland last weekend - flew into Wroclaw on Friday, flew back from Lodz on Monday. As we took off from Lodz, I could see some military helo's on the far side of the field. Only caught a brief look and had no chance to take pictures - looked like some Mi-8 and something a little smaller with weapon pylons - Mi-24? Any of the Polish guys confirm what I saw? Also saw a nice Mi-2 fly over me while I was in Bialystok on Sunday

Setting Campaign Difficulty
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to HitchHikingFlatlander's topic in User Created Missions General
Are you having this problem when you open the campaign in the Mission Editor? Are you declassifying the campaign? -
Viper is correct that Lockon can look terrific at sunrise :) Good to see that you are wanting to try out different things in Lockon - too many folks only ever fly at Noon in a clear sky in the Summer. All they care about is getting in the air and killin' something. Lockon can be so much more than that, if folks make a little effort to push its boundaries. Take the time to experiment with the Mission Editor and change the time in (eg) 10 minute increments from before dawn to after sunrise / before sunset to after sunset and see what differences it makes. Then get more creative with the weather - maybe a little low lying fog to fill some valleys, some haze, some clouds, add some ground level wind so the smoke from chimneys (and dead vehicles) doesn't boringly go straight up, etc etc. Try night flying - change the day of the mission and see the different phases of the Moon. There are Mods by TekaTeka that improve how the moon looks in Lockon - Check out the Download section of LockonFiles or JaBoG32, direct links below. http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=76&lid=246&ttitle=Realistic_Moon_Mod_V2#dldetails http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=22&file=123&lang=en A good Mod for night flying IMHO is the wartime less bright runway light Mod. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=543

...and they use Post-Its around their monitors for vital information, just like I do. Of course they get crappy standard issue yellow ones whereas mine are a funky orange :) http://www.wykop.pl/ramka/101062/w-a...ie-z-isaf-foto Picture 3 (and others) what rifles are those German guys using? Dont think I've seen it before?

Still working OK for me. But dont worry about it, you are here now. The UBI forums are pretty quiet, only new folks (like yourself) who go there as a first port of call. A few old hands still lurk at UBI to help folks out and point them to http://www.lockonfiles.com and to this forum. HAving said that, the UBI forum IS useful in that it has 5 years of useful info to search through, so hopefully UBI will keep it going for a while yet even though they baled on Lockon after the patch v1.02 release.

Armin - love your tunes :) B_R_D on the decks having a night off from Lockon.....

Static in campaign question
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to jpm1's topic in User Created Missions General
You cannot. Any static that you place in a mission will appear in all the following missions in the campaign. I often see this mistake by Campaign designers - they place eye candy static objects on an airbase parking area in every mission of the campaign and they all overlap each other. You have to decide what static objects you are happy to be there for the entire campaign (eg eye candy at your airbases). Anything else that you need in only one mission, then you have to make it a real unit. -
Hawk, Hunter, Lightning and a Buc - terrific pics says this Brit.......

Blackjacks come v close to UK coastline
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Mustang's topic in Military and Aviation
Well not always GG. Back in the day, we ran detection trials on one of my radars. Sent the trials jet (Hawk trainer) way out over the sea until we could only just detect him, then told him to turn around. The pilot was somewhat nervous being so far out over the sea. Lost him completely until he had come a considerable distance back again, the pilot was a bit freaked by that. We figured it was because we were getting returns from the engine in the tail aspect. -
Croatia suing US 40 mil$ for bad radars
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to nscode's topic in Military and Aviation
The moral of this story is not to take risks and buy unproven technology. Instead buy proven technology that you know will work - FPS-117 has been around for ever since the 1970's. The RAF bought theirs (known as Type 92) in the 1980's. -

Thinking about buying US equipment? Get a good lawyer and check the small print!! A better bet is to buy British :) -
Where do threads go? The same place that lost socks go.... How is it you put 10 pairs in the washing machine and 9 pairs and one odd sock come out?

Pronunciation of the acronym "BRA"
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Ironhand's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Rich, as GGTharos said its "Bra". I've heard it on several recordings...... -
Sorry to hear about your arm, Mate! Get well soon, and get plenty of rest - by which of course I mean beers.....

Radio military communications samples Red Flag
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Lt.Seahawk's topic in Military and Aviation
http://www.lazygranch.com/red_audio.htm I think this is what you are looking for - Lazy G ranch. My fave (when I fly Russian jets) is the 2004-3 MiG one... "All Migs go hot on the CAP", that controller has a sexy voice. -

Is it possible to make new maps in Lock On?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Kaptein_Damli's topic in DCS Modding
No, not possible. BS map adds more of Georgia down to the Turkish border. http://i12.tinypic.com/4pxtlhz.jpg I think it adds a bit more of Russia to the East of Maykop too?
