  1. Interesting. So the OP was about the HP Reverb G1, and the last 2 are for the HP Reverb G2. Still the same flaw in designs, and same zero-support from HP? Interesting. But very interesting and creative fixes. I do like the ingenuity of it all!
  2. I'm not sure... but if it's anything like the UH-1, there isn't one you can click on. You need to map a key or button for it.
  3. That's real great to hear. Do we have any information on how the new Fixed Foveated Rendering version 2 is supposed to work, and what we can expect for it with DCS? I was going to hold out for the Crystal Super, because I consider DFR a must for performance reasons. However, with my HP Reverb now in 'limp mode' (the infamous cable break issue has struck) - I don't know if I'm going to be able to hold out the 8+ months before buying a VR headset, so I'm considering all options again. I'm very excited by what I see with Pimax and PC VR! Now seeing what I perceive to be an official Pimax rep here on the DCS forum (?) is even more encouraging!
  4. LOL - I asked the question, and within 24hrs get an email from them saying that they're shipping the units to early adopters. I guess it won't be too long before we start seeing reviews.
  5. Isn't this headset supposed to be released some time this month? I'm surprised that there hasn't been any units sent out to content creators / reviewers yet if that's the case. Without DFR I'm really interested to see this reviewed.
  6. Sweet - please keep us posted. With the imminent release of the crystal-light, customer service reviews are going to be of some interest!
  7. Just curious as to whether or not this ended up making it's way to the feature request with the dev's, or if it ended up getting shelved/discarded? The idea of having - Workshop tools and activity going on in a nearby hanger when cold-starting a helicopter with doors open - 1MC announcement on the carrier that fades when the player closes their canopy - Birds chirping at FARPS and other chatter/activity - WW2 Air raid siren... well... you get the picture... ... would add to the immersion, especially during the startup phases within the cockpit. I love how external sounds from other aircraft fade when doors are closed, or you get further away from them (or they get futher away from us) - it would be nice to be able to include that within our own missions and campaigns with our own custom material.
  8. For me, I believe DCS Server running of Linux would be the first priority. Get our servers off Windows in datacenters would be a nice start! Then we could focus on the client. The concern I have is support. We already see so much going on in the VR world, and other peripherals. Would moving to Linux create even more issues, or could it be an actual saving grace for a number of us? I don't know. I have my PC Gaming machine for one thing only - DCS - so moving to linux, provided DCS would run off Linux would be easy, and even preferred to get away from this trap that is now Microsoft, with it's coercion policies, telemetry, and pulling the rug from under you once you finally have a solution (looking at WMR here!!!) to name a few reasons. If it wasn't for DCS - the only windows computers I'd have would be what work supplies. Since Microsoft have given up on the whole idea of "Personal Computer" and have abandoned their strengths to go chasing Google's ideals instead - with data collection, more web-apps, and more of 'their' control, the future of Windows looks pretty uninviting for me.
  9. The Apache supports having both synced? Wow - I didn't realise that. That's real cool!!! How does it work for collective and anti-torque pedals?
  10. "Mandatory"? I can't see how that's any better than subscription. Maybe a paid update to keep up with the latest core, or pay nothing and keep using the older version would be fine, but once you start forcing people to pay more for things they've already paid for - it's a nope. I don't mind what they did with the A10 and KA50 TBH. Paid updates to use the newer versions OR the opportunity to keep the old. I've upgraded each time myself, even though I don't fly them much anymore (more an Apache person now), but it keeps the development going and it's not big bikkies. Anything that forces people to pay to be able to continue to use products they've purchased in the past is a straight no from me.
  11. How much of a performance hit is it if Pimax users had to fall back to go through SteamVR (in a worse case scenario)?
  12. You can? I might have to check this out!
  13. I don't have a 'proper' way of dealing with this. Normally I anticipate it and need to drop the power slightly in order to catch the arrester wires. This seems to always lead to a EGIW penalty against me. I'm probably doing it wrong though, so I'm going to be very interested to see the response to this one.
  14. I know you have replies laughing at this, but your closer to the mark than those mocking your question. The post/link below is the most official answer I'm aware of re that scenario, and it's a positive one. Although let's hope that it never happens, because even though ED will do their best to make sure we can continue playing DCS - it's Microsoft I don't trust not to break something requiring a recompile, tweak, etc. Just look at what they're doing to WMR... Fact is - I suspect we would need ED to continue to maintain it, otherwise Microsoft will break something at some stage, and with no dev's to fix it in DCS - the life would be limited. Edit: It's also worth noting in that post that Nineline said "That said we are very very healthy right now and continuing to grow and get stronger". That was only 12 months ago.
  15. For those who have a Pimax Crystal and have a lot of time in DCS - can you please comment on your thoughts regarding having a battery in the headset? I'm interested in how long you get before you need to change batteries in a DCS session, how much of a burden having a battery is (whether it's a factor, or a non-issue), etc. I'm trying to figure out whether or not it's worth getting a Pimax Crystal, or wait until the Crystal Super is released, or whether I just get the Pimax Light. The main thing that's stopping me from considering a Pimax Crystal now is whether or not I'm going to have buyers remorse in 6 months wishing I waited for the Super (my current VR headset may not last that long), or whether it's not a big deal. Or whether I buy the light if my headset doesn't last, and take the loss on selling it later and upgrading to the super. I hear tonnes of reviews on how great the quality is, 'wow' factors, etc, but not much has been said (at least on youtube) about the battery, except for the weight. Thanks in Advance
  16. You might need to add: Kiowa - May (or June)
  17. YES - You can have 2 human players in one apache - one in the front, and one in the back. YES - Both pilots can simultaneously be working together. Apart from the flight controls (cyclic, pedals, collective and throttle) which can only be controlled by one pilot at a time - both pilots have full control over the rest of their cockpits and can work together. (It is possible to transfer flight controls from one to the other, so both pilots can actually fly too - but not simultaneously. - as you can't have the CPG and Pilot both pushing in opposite sides of the joystick and have the helicopter to listen to both, so as for the actual flying part - only one pilot can 'fly' the aircraft at a time, but all other systems are available simultaneously).
  18. I don’t know enough, just enough to have reservations at the moment. More research may be needed. But even hot swapping batteries for a device I never plan on using anywhere except plugged into a PC seems counterproductive. But if the battery isn’t a big issue, it could put the crystal back in the running.
  19. Thanks Aapje, I’ll skip the Quest as meta’s T&C and I aren’t compatible , but still appreciate the suggestion. Yes, but with new headsets there is warranty protection. Unless you’re saying that Pimax haven’t honoured warranty issues? I don’t know fully. I’ve read some’ reviews where people have said they only get 2hrs from a battery and others 7. Either way, it seems like the battery is mandatory which tells me that it uses more power than the cable can supply.
  20. Well, I'm at a point where I may have to review my statement about bypassing the light due to no DFR. I need an external perspective please: My HP Reverb is showing signs that the infamous cable might be on it's way out and I'm not sure how long I can hold out. I'd appreciate some suggestions/thoughts as to my situation and options incase I'm not seeing things clearly: DFR was mandatory for me, but I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place and may have to compromise. It seems having VR is more mandatory than having DFR. The Pimax Crystal and Varjo Aero seem to be the main 2 options available to me. The problem is that I feel like I'd be paying premium price for the Crystal which would be a compromise to me as well. (I have concerns about being battery based, both with interruption to flights, as well as it being the weak point for longevity of the headset life itself. (I have long VR sessions, and being battery bound seems like a real compromise -especially with a premium+ priced headset). Add to this that the Crystal Super has this problem solved, and is coming in around 6 months at the same (or similar) price, it seems that waiting is the best option, but that won't be up to me as much as it will be up to my headset holding out. Alternatively, the Varjo Aero looked like it would be the ideal go-to for now should my Reverb die in the mean time, but it looks like I've missed the boat with Varjo. They appear to be all sold out, and there's no suitable replacement in the works. (The XR-4 is way above anything I'm willing to spend on VR). So... if I have to compromise, it makes sense to compromise with the cheaper option, and just go with the Pimax Crystal Light as a life boat, so this headset's release might have been the perfect timing for me. I know though, once I buy this, I won't spend more on the Super, so that will be it. I'm not keen on buying anything second hand (I find it hard to trust the 2nd hand market and know that I'm not going to get a headset with issues). Is there something obvious I'm missing as other alternative options? On a separate note - I find it interesting that their are options for: * No local Diming with Controllers * Local Dimming without Controllers * Local Dimming with Controllers ... but they don't have "No local diming without controllers". I wonder what that's about?
  21. That's not great to hear, especially with the Crystal Light coming out soon, where I suspect repro will be essential given that it doesn't have DFR. If you do try the latest update, would you mind replying back here again to advise if it's any better please?
  22. Probably an unintended side effect of working on live sling-loading of cows for the CH-47. If not, we might have to have a 'beef' with ED about their cows. . Sorry about the bad joke. I just thought I'd milk this thread while I had the chance.
  23. Almost same setup as mine (I have a 13900). I found that turning MR off gave me 90fps consistently in almost all scenario's. (Where with it turned on the GPU/MR app thought it couldn't reach 90FPS for some reason, and kicked in MR early - where I was running MR the majority of the time). My recommendation is to try turning off MR (not on auto - but actually OFF), and see if you're able to get graphics set to a point where you can get 90fps consistently. Then it's not an issue because there's nothing to reproduce. The only difference is I'm only using 100% resolution.
  24. You can place the carrier in a lake if you want. Obviously it's not realistic - but it can be done. However I have Nevada, and I might have a total of two hours flight time on it myself. I love carrier ops, and it doesn't lend itself to that. I've mostly seen it used more for a 'training map', but that's kind of expensive for a lot of people to have just for training (YMMV). There are a few maps on the near horizon though that may work very well for carrier ops, so might be worth saving your money for one of those?
