What screen resolution are you running? It wouldn't surprise me if the video footage you've seen is captured at 4K, not 1080p with all settings up to max, and then downgraded to 1080p from the 4K footage. Also - if your GPU can't handle that - I believe there is a function that allows you to render a track file in high frames, high resolution, and high settings even if your GPU can't handle rendering it at real time. (You just let DCS render each frame at a time, and save the result to a video file which they may be using for their video creation as well. If memory serves me correctly, I believe this is in the Mission Editor, under Flight-Record AVI. You can select the TRACK file, Start and end times, video codec, Video Quality, FPS and Resolution in there which may be worth exploring.

That part wouldn't be too difficult to implement, but there'd be no option to re-spawn at that location and take off again. If the player has combined arms, I believe they can enter another player drivable vehicle and scoot around a little. (Such as a Hum-Vee, Tank, SA-9, SA-19, etc) whilst still maintaining the helicopter slot - so that may give a little flexibility, but obviously it'd be far nicer to actually jump into another aircraft. I guess we only have a few days to wait until we know what the CH-47 will bring to the table natively.

From what I can gather, it is a VRAM issue. I have personally noticed that since upgrading to a 24GB VRAM graphics card, I don't have the issues like I used to. Task-switching out of DCS to the desktop to another application, and then going back into DCS has reportedly fixed it in a number of users cases. Not sure exactly what the go is - but it seems as though windows must do a VRAM cleanup/release when applications change or something. Hopefully this workaround works for you, because otherwise it may be until Vulcan before we see a resolution for this.

How does one bring ILS bars onto HUD?
Dangerzone replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
As Razo+r mentioned - you will need to 'box' ILS on the HSI page. Also - these will only show when you are behind the carrier. If you're trying to see them when you're in front of the carrier, they won't show up. The lateral bar (vertical) will show up fairly far behind the carrier to show if you're left or right, but the glide slope (horizontal bar) will only show up when you're around 8 miles (IIRC) behind the carrier. In addition to this, the ship also needs to be configured to broadcast (which is done in one of the waypoints). You should be able to see if the ship is indeed broadcasting by pressing K to bring up the kneeboard, and see what the ICLS channel is there. -
Pimax Crystal: Add a 'recenter' bind to keyboard like Brand X?
Dangerzone replied to =DROOPY='s topic in Pimax
I haven't got my pimax (yet), but one thing I had issues with in regards to my HPReverb is that the DCS binding key would only recenter on some axis's, not all of them. For instance, if I look up, and and then recenter - it would only recenter left-right, and I would still be looking up in the sky. Is this the same with the Pimax, or does it center in different directions. (One of the things I'm hoping I can get away with is when looking down to input things into say the chinook's MDI that I don't have to kink my aging neck, but can recenter the view so when I'm physically looking straight ahead, I'll be looking down. Unfortunately XR Necksafer also only works left to right, and doesn't seem to have up/down axis built into it, so I'm kinda hoping that Pimax VR will have something available that will work with this. -
RAZBAM Situation Post Archive (will be deleted)

Next time I'm tempted to use ChatGPT or a LLM to do up a legal document for me, I'm going to remember this thread, and that it has learned from content on the internet just like this thread.... (and then I'll probably go find a solicitor) -
"Attention all pilots, scramble, scramble, scramble! Report to your aircraft immediately. This is not a drill. Repeat, scramble, scramble, scramble! Report to your..... Hey - Wait! What are you doing? - I didn't get to finish my announcement!"

Do you play steam VR games? I'm interested to know how VR would work with Linux. Like you - I would love to switch. I'm so over MS and the direction they're headed. DCS is what keeps me with windows. The other thing I would need to consider is VAICOM/Voice Attack/SRS - so I'm guessing I'm stuck for the time being, but still interested in how you go with VR in the other games, because DCS on Linux - maybe I'd have to see what I could and couldn't live with when it comes to the addons.

Performance - Repeat of previous maps....
Dangerzone replied to SimonR944's topic in DCS: Afghanistan
Wouldn't Nevada be the same? Or does it have the ocean layer in it's background? -
The voice recognition side I think would be the easy easier part. It's already been done (RJ with Overlordbot did it years ago, so surely it can only be 'easier' from now on). (Speaking ignorantly as someone who hasn't done development in either area). I've been using Overlordbot for years. Yes- it has the occasional issue, but it's been fairly good for the most part. What do you mean by you might complete the software when stt gets better? Have you actually been doing development in this area already?
-
Just brainstorming here, but after using Overlordbot (which has been one of the most immersive DCS experiences I first had when introduced to DCS), it got me wondering. With the modern age of chatbots, etc - how hard would it be to incorporate what was used with overlordbot and extend it to AI instead of fixed phrases - and potentially get it to also handle ATC. I've just tried chatGPT 'chat' with voice (which apparently isn't even the new version that's coming out soon) and was impressed by the conversation I can have with it. Is AI in it's current form capable of ATC and GCI with voice to voice, or is that sort of expectation out of AI still a little out of reach? I don't have anything to do with MSFS, so guess if this was possible there'd already be AI ATC mods for that (unless it just does it so well, no AI mod is required)?

What the heck is the Synthetic voice sayin!?
Dangerzone replied to Antix70's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
It's an awful recording - but I believe it's a replica of how bad the real life recording is. (If recording is the correct terminology to use). Not sure why it's that bad. My guess is that it uses an old microchip that didn't actually have full recording capabilities, and it was the best it could do with the resources available for that era to emulate a human voice with those phrases. The only other guess I have is whether it's intentional so that it stands out from other chatter so the crew pays attention. Either way, after you've heard and know what the phrases are IRL, I would expect you'd get to know and understand it, the same as ATC can understand some of the speed-phrases some pilots like to ramble quickly even in a unfamiliar accent. Using the cheetsheet @LorenLuke posted above should have you being able to recognise the phrases pretty quickly, and then it'll just be a matter of muscle memory (or ear memory if that's a thing ) -
Meh - I gave it a go, but the graphics weren't that great. Too blurry for me. VR with prescription lenses has much better and clearer graphics than the backyard simulator using MK1 eyeball.

Calling anyone who raises their kids on different values to yours as being abusive and lazy parents is an arrogant and offensive statement. If you want to argue a place for having swearing, cursing, etc in DCS or an ED module - debate the point on it's merits- leave the personal attacks against people who's values differ to yours out of it. This is not a place for telling others how to raise their children, nor a place for bigotry statements (in the real use of the term) by accusing them of being abusive parents because your values and beliefs are opposed to theirs.

need track replay GC “Hey what are you doing!”
Dangerzone replied to SharpeXB's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I've had the same problem on MP too. Unfortunately because the server is complex (with server-hosted scripting), the track files aren't really going to work properly on replay, so I appreciate you raising this and providing a track file. Thank you! -
Thanks for bringing this up. I fly this simulator, and so does my young daughter (on a separate account of her own). I've been waiting on the Navy version of the F4 module, so haven't purchased it for us yet. (We both love our carrier ops). I thought DCS being a simulator, would be free from this sort of content. This is not something I want in a simulator - especially for my daughter. If other people want it left in, that's fine for them, but I really hope HB consider this, and at least give an option for removing cussing (and swearing if that exists too please) out of Jester's vocabulary in a future update. I would also request that in the mean time, a language content warning be placed on the sale page too. This will give people the option before they purchase to choose which I think is in everyone's best interest as it would avoid these sorts of arguments and complaints.

Well, ED being a G rated game an all - I'm not sure giving the bird would be good - even if it is used for international relations.

Aah - so no plane directors on the next patch, neither for SP, nor MP. Dang- I was hoping to have a peak at this. Hopefully it'll be out in the patch after (fingers crossed). Thanks for the update. I can only imagine the coding required, especially to support 'pilots' who don't do what they're told. I wonder if that's handled, or whether the plane directors will be programmed just throw their hands up in the air and walk off to the side and say "You figure it out if you're not going to follow directions".
-
Just to confirm - is this the 'general' expected delivery now... August for most people? And if so, does this mean people in Australia and New Zealand (which seem to be at the back of the list) may be beyond that? I appreciate the candor - being open and bad news is far better than good news that isn't true, but I'm in a position where my VR has died. I've been waiting now for a month for the headset. I was first told June, then July, and in between I've found out Australia and NZ was being shipped after the rest of the world. None of this is to 'have a go' at what is happening. I appreciate that QC is highest on the list, and so it should be. If delays are required, then they're required. I'm just looking for solid info as to whether I should look at giving DCS a complete break for a few months and walk away and arrange my calendar accordingly (for organised online events, etc) accordingly.
-
I think I heard that the other day somewhere too (maybe on a HIP game video)? Is this for both Airboss and directors, or just plane directors? Plane directors was what I was interested in, so I guess there's nothing really new coming for this next update for MP besides a 'sneak peak' of what it might look like if I switch to single player, but as far as multiplayer servers go (at least for the deck crew... business as normal. It makes sense - get the directors right in SP first, and then move to MP because MP will be more complicated - thus it will hopefully have less impact on MP servers if they get it wrong first up. (Not many would be happy if directors were getting it wrong and planes were on top of each other on the aircraft deck). I do hope though, that it'll be a high priority to get it across onto MP shortly after SP is released, because for MP operations, this will certainly add to the immersion.

The OH-58 had a lot of information released and video's of it in action prior to release which made pre-purchase prior to the day a much easier option. In contrast, I haven't pre-purchased this yet. as I'm waiting for more information. This will either come from ED into what features will and won't be available, or (more likely) from customers after it's out with youtube content. Given that the release date has been pushed back a week I figure that gives me a little more time. (There's no need to pre-buy now when I can pre-buy next week for the same). Although for me, information is more important than saving a few dollars, so I'm willing to go from 30% to 20% discount to see what it fully offers in the way of gameplay and video's on youtube prior to making a commitment. It's a real pity that ED haven't released content video's about how it can be used at released in gameplay like the Kiowa, or even AH-64 had. (I understand the Kiowa was not EA, and fully featured, but it'd still be nice to have video's demonstrating what we will be able to do at release with it (like the apache had IIRC). TLDR; Where's Wags?!!?

Fair points, but when I mention 'overdeliver', I'm talking about timing - not features/functionality. To say 2 months, and have it released in 5-6 weeks instead doesn't cost the company that much, and when people get stuff earlier than anticipated (albeit even just a couple of weeks earlier) - it can generate a lot of excitement, and also add to the companies reputation. Maybe it's just me - but punctuality to me is important. I'd prefer to be 15 minutes early than 5 minutes late. Underpromising (on time frames) and then overdelivering has much less risk compared to features. If you run late unexpectedly, you can (normally) still meet the deadline. If you do manage to beat the ETA time frame, that's even better. It also reduces stress internally and allows more elbow room. As mentioned in my last post, receiving it on say August 1st is receiving it on August 1st. But the person advised a July 15th receival has a very different experience to the person advised August 15th even though physically nothing is different between the two. I say this not to put Pimax down, but because I desperately want to see them not only succeed, but succeed in leaps and bounds. Where other VR companies have let us down big time (coming from HP I can speak from experience) - it's exciting to find a company actually excited and dedicated to their product, and is working in leaps and bounds to fill a space in the VR community. I would hate for something as simple as overpromising on time frames to have impact on their reputation if it is the currently standard "M.O." in the company.

Looks like the plane directors (which I'm most excited about) won't be available for multiplayer for a while? There's a couple of questions above too which would be great to see answered.

Is the unmatched flight dynamics is what's being represented by the AH64 apache's FM? Because honestly - the OH58 has blown all previous experiences of a FM out of the water for me - and that on day 1 release.
