1 T-80U = 6 M1A2's Track included
SmokeyTheLung replied to Invader ZIM's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
I'd agree with that statement. I'm not going to bore you with the definition if alpha/beta... But if you're expecting the CA that you bought to end up like arma/steel beasts before you have to pay into it again I think you're going to be sorely let down. -
I'm not so sure, it looks more like part of the countermeasures system... Bug report.

Big HUD Font for A-10C
SmokeyTheLung replied to PeterP's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
PeterP, Nice mod. A quick question for you: Are you aware of a way to call up a new symbol(s) on the HUD? I discivered that it's quite easy to get the HUD to render an existing symbol/text in a different place. What I want to do is add a new data block, with some fixed lettering (nothing fancy) As far as I can tell the files that actually contain this kind if information are not viewable to the end user (or I just missed them). I have been able to edit and change existing symbology but, as I mentioned, have not been able to add anything new. Perhaps you can confirm that this cant be done, and save me another 5 hours of searching Thanks -
That's awesome.

I believe he's referring to the allegiance of the airfield. Since the first iteration of DCS: World you can assign an airfield to be either Blue, Red or neutral (this is done in the ME by clicking on the airfield) I can't confirm this but I'm pretty sure ATC only has full functionality if you have it set to the appropriate coalition

Let the guy dream lol. ...In all seriousness you're absolutely right PeterP. After having played around with the settings I Will say that the guy might find something a little more pleasing to his eye. Definitely won't be darker, but I do believe a few of the values I input were (appear) brighter That screenshot I posted not being one of them... Pure white is surprisingly bright

Search for HUD_init in your DCS world directory and copy the file to your desktop. Edit the values with notepad++ These are the values I used for the above screenshot day_color = {44/255, 60/255, 199/255, 255/255} night_color = {44/255, 60/255, 199/255, 255/255} Save the file and place the original one somewhere as a backup. Put your newly edited file in the folder and you're good to go

1 T-80U = 6 M1A2's Track included
SmokeyTheLung replied to Invader ZIM's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
From what I heard that might be the case. But obviously I don't know anymore than the rest of you guys. When I say pipeline I mean Matt Wagners head :D My point is that I'm guessing that combined arms, in terms of major features/user interfaces, is not going to change much. Is it really a problem for you to pay for new features down the road? I bet you've spent a night out drinking that cost wayyy more :P ED has to stay in business after all... -
1 T-80U = 6 M1A2's Track included
SmokeyTheLung replied to Invader ZIM's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
I'm sure CA will be refined as it gets closer to release... I'd bet the core features/functionality will remain largely the same though. I missed the post from Wags, but the word on the street is that there might be a Combined Arms 2 in the pipeline. If we see any major overhauls to the realism they'll probably be there -
CBU-97s in particular require a fairly steep dive for the pipper or bomb solution to be in the HUD field of view. If you want to drop with a shallow dive, say -5°, use CCRP mode and drop the nose

SU-25T cockpit view unusable with trackir
SmokeyTheLung replied to tonym's topic in Controller Profiles and Problems
You probably have the "zoom view" command mapped to the Z axis of your trackir. Go to options/controls/su-25t/axis assign and unbind it (depending on the amount of controllers you use you might have to scroll to the right to see the trackir assignments) ...you can confirm this quickly by leaning towards your monitor (with trackir enabled of course) and recent we your view. After you lean back you notice that your view zooms out -
Bummer. Although I have no interest in the mod, I'll give a shot tonight and report back
-
If the values stayed the same when you edited (then closed the file and re-opened)than you probably don't have to worry about what I suggested.
-
Did you use notepad++ to edit? Did you save the file after you edited? (Usually you have to remove the file from the DCS directory to your desktop [or anywhere else] in order to be able to save)

Do Mark Points track Moving Vehicles
SmokeyTheLung replied to LtMacGowan's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
No they don't. As to your second question...Practice:D ...There is no multi track functionality with the TGP in DCS -
Can't try it as I'm away from home for the weekend. If the JTAC is set to assign group and the groups are 20ft apart and it's giving you a type 3 then I'd say that sounds funky for sure. Just as a test I'd try to rearrange your triggers so the group you want the JTAC to lase can engage. Fly your a10 right next to them and hit active pause. Let them shoot at you. Then check and see if your JTAC has visual contact and gives you a type 1
-
Plenty of things need to get patched...but units not having unlimited detection abilities at night is not one of them. Read the GUI manual...don't use enroute tasks for your JTACs if you want them to have (as the GUI manual puts it) perfect situational awareness. Instead use regular task: assign group.
-
IIRC you can force a JTAC to always be aware of the unit(s) you want it to target. As opposed to letting the AI find the unit based on its predefined searching abilities. Check out the GUI manual for a better explanation. As to the nighttime visibility, if the targets start shooting at something chances are your JTAC will be able to detect them. I found this out by placing two groups of opposing infantry about 1000m away from each other (at night of course). I was flying around in the a10 hoping to watch some fireworks from 20,000 ft. But alas, they just stood there. They only started to engage each other after I did a low pass and the enemy infantry started shooting at me. I'll see if I can find a page number in the GUI manual that explains the first thing I described a bit better
-
JTAC has to see the target to lase it? I think units have reduced visibility at night
-
Lol. Which sim is better? The sim of your dreams or the sim of my dreams? :D
-
IIRC the fuzing switches have three positions. One for arming, one labeled "CHEM" (IIRC) and one off position. Have you tried all of the above? ...my memory is a bit fuzzy as I haven't flown the mustang much lately but I remember having a similar issue and it was do to the switch position

Maverick Targeting Mod Question
SmokeyTheLung replied to LtMacGowan's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Try this: Fist off, make sure your Slew hat and TMS hat are on different controllers. (i.e. slew on the throttle and TMS on the stick) You want to do this so you can readily access the necessary controls while slewing. Line up your attack so that your TVV is close to the target. Engage autopilot (this works best in a dive, with PATH HOLD autopilot engaged IMHO) Start to slew the Maverick towards the target Once the tracking gate of the Mav gets near the target press TMS down short to stop the seeker from slewing (and ground stabilize it) Chances are you will need to refine again, slew in the direction of the target and TMS down short and try to land very near the target... Eventually you can get to the point where the Maverick looks ground stabilized after and during every slew to someone watching over your shoulder. It's just a matter of becoming comfortable with the switchology I'm including a track for you to watch, it might help MAV GRND STAB.trk
