  1. Well I just ran the Spitfire Operation Jubilee which preivously had killed the FPS. During that I saw "CPU Bound (rendering thread" appeared in yellow mixed with "CPU Bound (main thread)". My problem now is that the graphics are unstable, it seems like the picture displayed is shifting a pixel or two back and forth. This made me run the same mission in ST which just looks more stable (the picture that is) and it is just runs a couple of FPS lower. So there seems to be a major improvement in the code itself
  2. Hi. I'm running a pico 4 setup too but with openXR/SteamVR. ( --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR). I can tell since I can bring up the OpenXR menu and mess around. (Note that SteamVR will launch but then OpenXR somehow intercepts). Altough I get a few FPS in MT and VR it works worse than ST. I get a slight seasick fenomena in MT. If I open the frame rate counter (RCtl+Pause) I get a "CPU Bound (rendering thread)" message both in 2d and VR. Anyone has a clue what that means?
  3. Interesting. Old WWII stories I've read says they're were drenched in sweat after a dogfight. Shouldn't the fenomena that the controls get stiffer and stiffer with increasing speed be modeled too? I think I heard that the pilot (correct me on this) can roughly tell how fast he's going by the stiffening of the controls. Unfortunately Force Feedback seems to be a dead issue for our controllers. Maybe someone can strip his $20k Ducati of the electronically adjustable damping and attach to his joystick.
  4. I really would like to see some progress here for us VR users. Now I have to release my grip on the stick, find the mouse and find the "white dot" against white clouds. And if I'm supposed to manage a couple of flights it is really hard to do. For VoiceAttack we have to remember those who don't have English as their native language.
  5. Agree. Kind of "Transition to AC xxx course". Especially in VR it's hard since you cannot reference any documentation. And I find that the instructions fade away too quickly. I would like a "introduction to xxx" with voice overs. But for the actual training - keep everything you need to now in the Kneeboard since the Briefing pauses everything and hides the cockpit.
  6. I flew the Spit the other day and was promptly shot down. Observing the AI fighting in the F2 view I noticed a FW-190 flying around effortlessly with only the left elevator intact! So there seems to be a problem.
  7. Yup the manuals are the strong point of DCS. We all agree that to be somewhat proficient you have practice, practice and practice. So the question is should a good set of practice missions be included in the module you buy? If I buy a module I expect that it is maintained. A youtube video or user file might be out of date any time. As of note taking, are you flying in VR? That's where my problem is, how to get notes into the Kneeboard. I found a simple utility KB Quick that makes it possible to add notes to the Kneeboard. The old no longer maintained Kneeboard Builder only handles PDF files, and the rendering of them often becomes unusable.
  8. Yes I like new toys. That's what keeps ED alive and kicking! Regarding training missions they are somewhat random in their content. For instance: A-10C: There's no training mission for working with a JTAC. And that's really a key skill with the A10-C F/A-18C: There's no training mission on how to employ the Maverick. Third party modules often have some triggers that just makes you sit there wondering what your're supposed to do. If the training missions were separated with "introduction" (all the talk) and "training" (were the how-to is in the mission briefing or kneeboard) it would be better. As a VR user with a memory of a snail I can't go back and forth to the manual. I need a very limited training mission that just covers one topic (say drop dumb bombs in CCIP). I've found some excellent training missions among the user files but that is just luck. I completely agree to what you say about practice, itt's the only way to get better. That's where I think the developers should step up - a little more time spent on practice missions.
  9. Yes but for other aircraft say warbirds, F5-E and so on...
  10. It would be nice to have a generated list of each waypoint altitude, speed etc. in the kneeboard. Generally you don't have clue of which altitude and speed you're expected to have at a specific waypoint. The mission designer could add this manually but then would have a nightmare maintaing it.
  11. Yes that's what I'm trying to get at - the gap from going from "Training missions" to "be proficient" is the problem. I would like to have a basic flight campaing that guides you through learning the aircraft in a structured and realistic way. But since I'm no pilot I could only guess at how to do this (obviously start-up, take-off, landing and shutdown would be one of the first missions). Since there are a lot of real pilots flying in DCS there should be a lot of knowledge about this. As it is now all buyers of a module have to figure out a new module by themselves and investing a lot of time in the ME. I would gladly pay the price of around $10 to have a real pilot make a "basic" campaign that teaches me how to take-off, navigate, land, ILS, take fuel from a tanker, etc. in good weather, overcast and bad weather. Then repeat everything at night. I could do this in the ME, but each mission I create become boring very fast - I'm the only living person in the world where nothing else is going on. If I try to insert som variation into my missions I quickly run into struggling with the ME instead of flying. So instead of flying 200h in my new module I spend 150h in the ME, get bored of my own lack lack of progress because I don't fly enough, and then a NEW module comes along and I hit the "BUY" button ...
  12. Eh, all but the Christen Eagle and I-16. As soon as I see "NEW" or "SALE" I tend to hit the "Buy" button... I guess the main problem with this hard-core sim is that it plays out 1:1 with real life. So if a new complex AC takes 200 h of training to get proficient at, well you have to invest 200 h of your daily life. And the bad part is that there are no "basic traning" campaigns, almost all campaigns expects you to be a hot-shot with 2000 hours flight time. The "training" missions that comes with a new AC are more of a "introduction" to different systems/situations. And they are rarely maintained. How often have I not been sitting waiting for a training mission to continue? So you have to build your own training missions in the ME and spending time on this, means there is less time for actual flying...
  13. Yeah I did try the PIco Sreaming Asisstant, but it's like a 1:gen HTC. Now I have an old Ethernet switch where I connect my computer and the USB-C Ethernet adapter that goes to the Pico. It makes it go to a clarity that's almost as good as a HP G2 but with a much larger sweet spot. I have never spent so little time to make a VR headset work!
  14. Hi! I just thought I should share my experience on my new Pico. So I owned the HP Reverb G1, and G2. Tried the Varjo Aero and owns a now dead Pimax 8KX. After a year my Pimax suddenly died. Assuming that there would be a long wait before it would be fixed, I started looking at other headsets. And happened to notice the Pico 4. It's "cheap" and has no fresnel lenses. The FOV is on par with the HP's and Varjo (missing the FOV of a Pimax). The clarity is obviously not as good as the Varjo, but better than a Pimax and generally better than the HP (which has a very small sweet spot). What is suspicious is that it only has a USB C connector, no DP interface to your graphics card. What you need is the "Virtual Desktop App" and a USB-C to ethernet adapter (preferably powered). All this works very well. I have a RTX 4080 Graphics Card and a somewhat old Intel 10600 CPU. Without trying to do any optimization I get around 45 fps in A10C Caucasus Free Flight. A Pico 4 (128 GB) goes for around 430 €, the desktop app 20€ and a USB-C to ethernet adapter 30-50€. So all in all around 500€! Ok Happy Holidays and maybe Santa will bring you something cool...
  15. Look into DML in the Mission Editor forum. It is very well done AND documented. You add zones with name attributes, where each attribute can be a flag coming in or going out. It really is impressive.
  16. First of all I must say that I'm really impressed with DML, the documentation is well done and even funny to read. Great work!!! Background: I'm trying to set up a busy airfield to start from. So I use clone zones to create a random number of random types of AI aircraft that gets spawned by clone zones . However I wan't to delay the AI aircraft from taking off at the same time. Sort of combining the Clone Zone with the Impostor or using the "UNCONTROLLED" option in the ME and later randomly activate each group again. Is this possible? If I just use the "spawn?" of Clone Zone at different times, I would get the effect of empty parking slots suddenly become populated. This would really look strange if you're sitting in the cockpit. I guess that the Impostor looks for units at mission start and not later when "impostor?" fires and thus cannot be used together with Clone Zone?
  17. Okay my crashes came in the Hotas Training. Both A10-C and A10-CII. To me it looked like it happened when I was switching the MFD and SOI around. I noticed that there was an Windows update around a 11/13. Since then my Virpil control panel gives an error in joy.cpl if i click Properties. It works in the Virpil configuration and behaves normally in DCS. Windows 10, version 22H2. Saw that there is a new update KB4023057, and I will see if it does anything good. No luck. Just been flying the Hotas Fundamentals training and fooling around with the MFD's. dcs.log-20221115-201425.zip
  18. I just noticed that F18->Training->Taxi and Takeoff gives me around 37 FPS whereas F18->Instant Action->Caucasus->Cold and Dark gives me 50+ in FPS Could it be the Clouds? Otherwise it may be the scripting of the training. Same aircraft and map
  19. A little bit off topic but shouldn't you consider a new base instead? As a previous TM owner I can say that the plastic interior will wear out and your center point will get sloppier and sloppier until you can't make fine adjustments anymore. An all metal base, Virpil or wingwin is the way to go. A virpil base will accept your TM stick handle, not sure about the Winwing (or is it Wingwin?)
  20. Hi, struggled with this some hours since I´m not sure about how the commands are defined. Finally I found that the problem is in the "Your DCS Directory"\Mods\aircraft\Uh-1H\Input\UH-1H\joystick\default.lua Make the following change: -- {down = device_commands.Button_1, cockpit_device_id = devices.HEAD_WRAPPER, value_down = 0.0, name = _('Set Pilot Seat'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, -- {down = device_commands.Button_2, cockpit_device_id = devices.HEAD_WRAPPER, value_down = 0.0, name = _('Set Operator Seat'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, -- {down = device_commands.Button_3, cockpit_device_id = devices.HEAD_WRAPPER, value_down = 0.0, name = _('Set Right Gunner Seat'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, -- {down = device_commands.Button_4, cockpit_device_id = devices.HEAD_WRAPPER, value_down = 0.0, name = _('Set Left Gunner Seat'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, {down = iCommandViewCockpitChangeSeat, value_down = 1, name = _('Set Pilot Seat'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, {down = iCommandViewCockpitChangeSeat, value_down = 2, name = _('Set Operator Seat'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, {down = iCommandViewCockpitChangeSeat, value_down = 3, name = _('Set Left Gunner Seat'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, {down = iCommandViewCockpitChangeSeat, value_down = 4, name = _('Set Right Gunner Seat'), category = _('View Cockpit')}, Find and copy the first 4 lines, comment the first 4 as a backup. Then change the "down" command. Then it matches the ..\..\keyboard\default.lua Good luck!
  21. Well I find that the Boresighting is off when doing a Cold Start. When Aligning I have to crouch as the CP/G, and then the sight is off if I'm aiming the gun with HMD as a sight. If you do a Hot Start where the Boresighting is already done, the gun works okay. For the pilot it's no problem. And yes I'm a VR only guy.
  22. Hi! The manual states that "To know corresponding uwv. file(s) for a particular effect place mouse pointer on its check box at SimShaker base module GUI and read a tooltip shown". Well I'm just to stupid I guess but is there a better description of which uwv file is connected to which effect? I.e "Flaps Movement" plays which file? I do find it hard to distinguish the different effects from each other, even with the effect strength turned down to 5 or 10, so I thought I would look into the uwv editor.
  23. Interesting, I'll look into that. Found the export.lua might have all the data needed, which makes sense since cockpit builders need much of the same information. Guess I have to compose a MIDI track with 3 notes and varying velocity to get an idea of how it would sound like. TacView should have the info too.
  24. The Casmo TV video where he mentions the lack of "seat of the pants"...
