"The RTX 4080 16GB is to feature an AD103 GPU with 9728 CUDA cores, a total of 16GB of GDDR6X memory clocked at 22.5 Gbps and TDP of 320W. This model is set to launch in November for at least 1199 USD." "4090 $1599 usd" edit for typo(I was in a rush) https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-introduces-geforce-rtx-4090-4080-series-rtx-4090-launches-october-12th-for-1599-usd According to this post on reddit the 4080 12gb is the same performance as the 3090 ti?

Lenovo 4090 pictures. It looks to be for prebuilts according to some of the comments? Hopefully the other AIBS can/will make them smaller? So some cards look to take up 4 slots or you can have a length of 14"? so at up to 660w new psu and possibly new case? https://videocardz.com/newz/lenovo-geforce-rtx-4090-gpu-pictured-some-more-it-is-36-cm-long

So the next board meeting should be interesting over at N. Bad couple of quarters in comparison to the glory days of crypto mining and losing an AIB. Unless they want to get rid of AIB partners over time? As Steve pointed, peoples jobs are involved here. I wish them luck.

This youtuber feels that he may have found some info showing how the 40 series may go. For example a 12gb and a 16gb 4080? The first 3/4 of the video shows how the previous 10, 20 cards were setup. Caution for language. Skip to 9:40.

First PC building suggestions :)
AngleOff66 replied to Rich97's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
never mind. I did mis read. Need moar coffee. -
For me when upgrading the 1st question has to be: Will the psu handle it. My system is roughly the same vintage. By the time I upgrade the PSU to handle even a cheap gpu, I am spending more than it is worth. But I want eye candy. I am also not sure as to comparability of a mother board that old and the newer cards.

Thank you for this.

New PC build conundrum,
AngleOff66 replied to Digitalvole's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Be careful about power transients. Seems that a PSU that is higher than you need may have the head room to filter out the spikes? Edit- I do not think anyone really knows yet what the power requirements are for the 4090 series. The oem nvidia will be at one level and then the board partners may boost that higher still. I've read some "leaks" that say it will be 600 watts blah blah. I've seen other stories that say 450 watts. I hope that the estimates are wrong. 600w just for gpu is nuts. If you are set on a 4090, and buy a psu now, you may have to buy another psu if 600 turns out to be the case. Just my 2 cents. -
RX 6700 XT vs RTX 3060 Ti in DCS (VR?)
AngleOff66 replied to Aerophobia's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Here is a dcs video from 2021 and the 67000. It is in Portuguese, but the subtitles auto translate to english seems to work well. You may have to watch it on yt to get the auto translate. I checked reddit. Typed in DCS 6700 xt. Bunch of results. May be worth a read. Bandwidth vs vram geesh thats a question indeed.- 14 replies

Buy or Build PC for VR (UK)

I stand to be corrected, and it likely isnt that important these days but dont motherboards have QVL ? Qualified Vendor lists of ram etc that was tested with the MB? Again I could be wrong, likely am, but look into Z690 board, see what they tested if any. Should be on the MB makers site. -
I've tried, but with art even my stick figures need help. SU-27 Tiger. This could also translate into a grey white snow tiger type? http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/130242-what-if-schemes/&do=findComment&comment=1320474 JSDF SU-27 http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/130242-what-if-schemes/&do=findComment&comment=1326556 USN Blue angels, but I think a two seater if it exists? http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/130242-what-if-schemes/&do=findComment&comment=1318178

Look into cooling for the 12th gen series. Contact frame/bracket. There is the cheap one reviewed here and the more expensive one by thermal grizzly. You can see how carefully they install the bracket. I think I remember that temps dropped about 7-8 degrees which may or may not be worth it to you. -
That is a very nice setup Hector. The center cushion is much better than what I posted from the online reseller. I wonder if using a car chair would interfere with VR HMD? Trying to turn around and having that bit of the chair right at the back of your head/neck. hmm.

I think I remember someone mentioning that having a fan blow air on them when flying in VR? Might work?
-
If I had the room I would get a car chair set up. A local handy person or carpenter can make the base: Examples: https://www.polygon.com/guides/2020/7/1/21300566/how-to-build-a-flight-simulator-racing-cockpit-homemade-diy-rig-frame-chair-setup Any competent wood worker should be able to look at these various setups and cobble something together. https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/mobile-driving-flying-cockpit-with-motion-and-tactile-build.165289/ This is a racing rig, but it should provide ideas: U shaped foam cushion. Plenty of others. https://www.amazon.ca/Posture-Pro-Health-Chair-Cushion/dp/B09KCQYJDF/ref=sr_1_61?keywords=Foam+Cushion&qid=1658785131&sr=8-61 Not sure how to cut the metal frame of the chair and then re weld though.

Need recommendation for a gaming laptop
AngleOff66 replied to rkric258's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Depending on the game, you can loose performance. So unless you have to have a laptop, you are better off with a desktop. This video is a year old, but shows the drop in performance. I will be very curious to see what they do for cooling with the 40 series cards in a laptop. -
Moore's Law: Gpu pricing new and used
AngleOff66 replied to AngleOff66's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So even with these "sales" how close are these new prices to msrp or below msrp? It is last gen (some of the 40 series may be delayed?). I would want to see lower prices still. Cmon AMD/Intel give us some good stuff to drive prices lower. Did I just say that about intel?
