  1. First of all, I don't think visible range to "extreme" gains you any measurable benefits, except hogging RAM. Turn on 2x MSAA, don't use SSAA, turn on SSLR and SSAO. Turn clouds to High and try to make out the difference Other than that looks fine to me. Report back. Good luck!
  2. Really funny, I literally discovered this bug yesterday evening and was about to make a video. I wanted to get a better visual representation of wind and turbulences, therefore turned the smoke on while approaching the runway. However, it stayed on the runway like thick ground fog. One more important hint: I used red and green smoke and after a couple of minutes the colourful smoke turned white, like real fog.
  3. If you wait long enough, does it turn off on its own, like the third key press? Can you turn it off manually?
  4. Are you aware of the Windows Update package KB4589212. Some people noted that uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling the package helped a great deal. Also, use newest NVidia drivers. I'm afraid I can't be of more help since I don't encounter these crashes.
  5. I'm a programmer, specifically a cluster & database architect. That's fancy language for "a bunch of servers have to function as virtually one, make it happen dude, yesterday". I'm stuck on a GTX 1060 6GB because of the graphics card shortage. People told me "man you can sell your five year old card for the original retail price". Nice but, I can't buy a better one. And I'm certainly not paying 2-3x retail price compared to six months ago. However, I don't believe prices will normalize soon. My argument being that the Tsunami and Fukushima weren't as severe to the market back then but it took years for prices to settle down. Some niche hardware products never normalized even remotely close to prior levels.
  6. I might add to the discussion that comparison needs a static framework. I would record a flight track, broken clouds early morning setup, high a low altitude, landing, taxi, then save it, replay the track and mark some FPS (CTRL + Pause twice) at specific time codes. Then change graphic settings and repeat. Oh one more advice: Close DCS and restart Windows between test runs, that clears out the cache. If you don't, you may get the impression that your 2nd setup works way smoother, although it's an illusion due to caching. Don't just fly around randomly, make the most of your time.
  8. That sounds very much like a DNS issue. I've seen another thread where comcast blocks Russian domains and people couldn't update their DCS instance. Which country are you in and can you access your router and set DNS servers manually? The reason I'm 95% certain is that you indicated direct IP access working instantaneously. Conversely, of course Microsoft could do some blocking on their internal DNS resolver. I'm not sure how far DNS over HTTPS has been integrated into Windows 10 already. If it has, Microsoft now controls what internet content is suited for your poor soul and which is not. Yes, this issue is a debacle and they sell it, once again, as "improved user experience" and shit. Google does it too BTW.
  9. Couple of things I noticed: 2021-04-19 14:25:41.736 INFO EDCORE: # C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at BD7B36D5 00:00000000 Usually graphics related. You're not using a dedicated graphics card. This is an all-in-one computer, non upgradable, correct? Then there are several file creation issues. Meaning those files either cannot be written into RAM or vice versa, not to disk (for various reasons). Then let's not forget that the 2.7 release is BETA software, not a stable release. So errors are expected, you've been warned. Lastly, how big is your swap file or page file? It must be huge I suppose given only 4GB of main memory. Can you access the memory slots via the back cover? This should be DDR 3 RAM, maybe you can find a cheap stick on ebay in order to upgrade to 8 or 12.
  10. For reference, one should create a profile for their respective NVidia or AMD control panel and let DCS control as much graphical fine tuning as possible. Meaning "let application decide" or however the term within your options and fiddle around in DCS. I've had terrible unlogical issues using fixed values within my NVidia control panel.
  11. Oh wow, that's definitely an issue. And should be fixed, can be fixed, even without raytracing. +1 for sure. I wonder however, why did you post this in "2D Video Bugs"? I hope this thread doesn't get lost. I can imagine especially in rainy and low visibility conditions, like bombing an airfield, you often need all the reflections you can get from certain angles. Therefore I think the shown issue isn't just cosmetic. With the new clouds we're entering a whole new strategic era.
  12. My goodness, I've been searching for this thread for an hour now! Glad I found it. Yesterday I flew a night mission. And low and behold, guess what happened. Yes, the monitor dimmed down so much the only things visible were the lightning storm and the green HUD. Everything else pitch black. I tried everything, multiple screen resolutions, deactivated all brightness management and screen savers an so forth. Then it hit me. My monitor has an option within it's own menu called X-Contrast. Whatever that's supposed to mean. I turned it off and BOOM, no more dimming down. What a relief. I hope it helps!
  13. I've seen Windows 10 strip down guides and these measures work, however no Windows Updates from that point on. Also, they have a track record of breaking especially DirectX applications (like games). Honestly I wouldn't bother because it takes you half a day to save a few GB with no guarantee to proper function thereafter. I bought a 120GB SSD used in an older laptop for 13.99 $ in China, came three weeks later. But for 25 $ you get 250 GB already. Sorry to break the news to you, but your constraints and desires collide when it comes to DCS.
  14. Yes and a photo would help a great deal. It's always hard for people to envision what you're describing with words. Especially if the majority can't reproduce the bug due to lack of quad monitors. Gladly smart phones are at hand all the time.
  15. Try to learn the Su25-T. The training missions within DCS are not for the faint of heart. I'd rather go on youtube, there are plenty of good tutorials on the Su25-T and aviation concepts in general. The 25-T is a brick, but at the same time very forgiving. Hard to flip her over and crash into the ground. MiG29 on the other hand is a super sports car. One mistake and you're done, esp. low altitude. If I were you I'd really stick to both free airplanes and not invest until you get it. With practice comes the fun part. Have you ever played any other (arcade) flight games?
  16. No man, the water is PERFECT, what are you talking about? You, and me, we know nothing. I see no problem. Huge improvement, love it! [/irony]
  17. Can you post a screenshot of your graphic settings tab, please? Also, which graphics card renders this?
  18. Usually the FPS counter has two stages. First stage one line, second stage multiple lines with detailed CPU info and so on. Am I right in assuming the second stage appears without the first one?
  19. Yeah those three pounders. PCIe slots were never designed to hold so much weight. Cards often get micro cracks on the PCB when being shipped. Had many DOA cards due to rough handling. I've seen broken off capacitors, wobbling 6 Pin power connectors, broken fans, the whole nine yards. I've once heard from a retailer that up to 15% of cards are DOA depending on the PC case model. Some are too sturdy, some not sturdy at all. A shame for the industry imo.
  20. Sleek Viper Skin, love it. These are my settings: On the ground I see ~ 40 FPS, low level flight it can drop to under 30 but rarely (lots of smoke and plenty of speed), up in normal airspace mostly ~ 60 fps. I'm currently learning the Su25-T and all the various Russian bombs, yes the old brick but it's fun. Since it's a slow plane I might have to double down on my graphic settings by the time I fly a MiG or Flanker again and quick reactions become essential. Oh and I have slight overclocking, but nothing fancy.
  21. Installations hanging in the beginning often indicates a DNS resolution problem. The main IP is hard coded into the installer.exe but then it relies on domain resolution, which due to problem doesn't work. That's at least the first thing I check when customers say "right from the beginning...".
  22. Good afternoon, since 2.7 I have a phenomenon that the login screen is covered by that DCS Logo. ALT + TAB and I can activate the underlying login screen. I hope you have the same problem and that solves it. Cheers
  23. For the most part I agree. But the MIC has a problem, like any western society: The financial system. It collapses, not just since Corona or 2008. At least since the 70's. My opinion on Vietnam is that the war was designed to be prolonged, not won. Great industrial booster, also on the Soviet side. To some extent the same can be said about Afghanistan, though I acknowledge the war itself and the country have a totally different topology. Since the 70's the financial system lives off of medication, not a long-term plan towards health. I believe the Chinese openly and bluntly express their believe about their superiority, be it in the cultural sense, financially, intellectually. Of course they know that their MIC is at least 20 years behind, but so are the US allies ones. I'm from Germany. If you really want to make a good joke, talk about our almighty tanks. There was a point recently when Germany had under 10 operational tanks, Leo II. It's not just a sheer shame but also a severe security risk to NATO. The situation is unbearable. Back to the bigger picture: There was once an emperor in China in ancient times who was a mad man. He ordered to burn the, at the time, biggest fleet of warships, ferries and fast vessels. This is a dark spot on Chinas soul and they dare to make this mistake again. They buy their way into every weakened country. They will soon conquer Africas mainland, they're entering South America since the mid 2000's. Australia is just a puppet to them, an soon to be outpost. They control media, universities there. China knows their topology isn't as favorable as the US one. It's relatively easy to cut them off. Heck, they even import rice! They couldn't feed everybody if they had to in a blockade scenario. Thus their only strategy is that of many shores. I've had business relations with Chinese and let me tell you: argueing or disputing anything is next to impossible. Worse than with an angry wife. Yet at the same time they smile and pretend to be polite. In reality the don't give two ... ones. That's my experience at least. I know not all 1.4 billion of them are the same of course, but I guess you don't make it over there with a down to earth and truly non-deceptive mentality. In essence, I don't see them stopping and I don't see any power except the United States to present them the stop sign. Europe is a just a name for a geographical part of Earth, not a concept, not a union, just a joke. Tough times like these demonstrate it. Your former President, at least in our media, was portrayed as the most incompetent man to ever walk the face of earth. The more I learned about China, the more I recognized that maybe he wasn't that stupid and he also realized the US has two routes: Counter Chinas aggressive expansion or retract and focus on itself, which can work. North America can survive without anybody else. Your thoughts are appreciated and to all others: excuse the derail.
  25. Thank you Tank50us for your valuable insight. You seem to have experienced circumstances that led to these conclusions. Do you believe the root cause lies in the cultural realm or is it a problem of the particular army you mentioned, namely a fear based doctrine within the military? The reason I'm asking is, in case of Iran, which I consider the most capable given their input / output efficiency (money and restriction wise), the leadership must know that all the barking doesn't represent strength. I mean, who falls for that except the the few fanatic nationalists? Iranians LOVE to outthink other people. On the other hand, if no one picks up the game, you just fool yourself. The US mentality is totally focused on results and bottom lines and the military reflects that in my opinion.
