I went from a 3080 to a 4080 and its a beast. Not so much in DCS because of the cpu bottleneck. The gpu side isn’t really the issue. I play dcs in pancake mode, but in the other “civil sim”, I only play in VR, granted I’m only using a quest 2, but I saw significant improvements. In benchmark data, for whatever that is worth, the 4080 outperforms the 3090. At this stage in DCS its really a tough call. Especially with multi-thread and the new game engine “right around the corner”. DCS VR is very poorly optimized at the moment. In theory either card should give great VR performance on a G2. I have a buddy that uses a g2 with a 3090 and has no real complaints, although I haven’t drilled him about fps/ frame times etc. My quest can hold 90fps with 1.5 scaling in oculus software without using the oculus tool tray or any sort of workarounds The 4080 can do much more than my headset can handle, but DCS lack of vr optimization , makes it kind off a crap shoot for any card/ headset combo right now. As a 4080 owner, I would buy it again in a heart beat, I have no regrets and no complaints, and I’m just using a non-overclocked FE model. I will say, though, I have never checked my VRAM usage in dcs. In other games (COD, Battlefield etc) with settings on ultra, ray tracing on, pushing to a 5120x1440 screen I don’t use anywhere close to 16 gigs.. vr needs more, sure, but just to be forthcoming, I don’t know what real dcs usage looks like at this stage.

Just some food for thought, the built in windows defender does a really good job. I haven’t used a 3rd party internet security since windows defender came about and have never had the slightest hint of a virus on any machine… But everyone has their reasoning to have extra protection, nothing wrong with that. In the business world, a lot of the software I install on PC’s( access control systems and online management software) seem to throw lots of fits with kaspersky in particular. I used trend-micro for many many years with no issues until defender came out.

Yes Hoggit has the new ‘pure scripts” enabled. It won’t let any modification through, not even the slightest change or mod from the basic vanilla install. I liked Hoggit a lot but they said its the only way they can stop a certain cheat or two since the 2.8 update. They had a workaround before on the backend but 2.8 changed something and they had to enable that pure script function. Through the inferno, ddcs, flashpoint Levant and most others seem to work fine still.. I did like Hoggit because people actually use comms in there, not sure why others are so quiet.

Lots of people are feeling the pain now I think, pretty much everyone is affected that exports anything, helios, simpit builders with heavily modified files etc. ED doesn’t have a way to really separate viewport exports from the integrity check, its a very basic system. I hope they understand how important it is to as lot of us and care enough to revamp it one day. IC is their crackdown on cheating but right now its an all or nothing kind of system. I totally understand not wanting people in servers with modified flight dynamics or weapons but exporting displays is 100% silly to get flagged for. Just the other day I saw a guy on the dcs discord asking someone to walk them through modifying an aim-120 to go double the distance and fly faster.. nah dude we don’t want you lol
-
Interesting.. did you start making that one yourself? I don't know how captnzeen, Soyuz2020 and blufinbima get their profiles to pass, but whenever I slightly mess with viewport handling myself ( like to remove the on-screen/ in cockpit mfd’s, just commenting out one part of a line of code) it fails right away no matter what, helios or not. I’d love to know what magic trick helios uses.. I wonder if it has something to do with they way helios applies the patched files for the profiles. I’m not smart enough to create one from scratch. The CaptnZeen discord may be the best bet for an answer. But you may not get much help if its one you designed from scratch. Helios is great, but it is 3rd party and at the mercy of how ED wants DCS to work. Guess it never bothered my because I don’t switch servers really, I’ll either stay in the same one, or hop over to liberation if MP pisses me off lol
-
Yeah I have no problems..but if you start any single player thing before going to MP it will fail ( current dcs bug). Also of you leave a server to go to another, after playing, it will fail.. both I believe are related to the same bug, restart game is the only fix. BigNewy has mentioned in other posts that they are aware of the bug. Unless its a server requiring “pure scripts” then nothing will pass except the vanilla game install. When yours fails ic, and you click the red shield, is it only giving you errors related to the aircraft you were just in?( bunch of lines about the viewport handling.Lucas) Or are you not able to even get into a server at all?

That would be great to have link-16 data on tads! Very welcome feature. Glad the a-10 is still getting some love, even if it’s down the road a ways.

What I notice most, and am most excited for with DLSS is the better anti aliasing( over what is currently in game). Zooming in on the HUD glass edge really shows a difference, assuming thats is in fact a byproduct or feature of dlss itself. It doesn’t seem to degrade the gauge quality either as it does in the civil sim. In that I prefer TAA over dlss, seems to actually run smoother and look better on my rig ( on a 5120x1440 screen)

All fixed, issue was just the tanker type. Just assumed the kc-135mprs did both types. It responds just fine to the f-18 and av8b. regular kc-135 responds to the a-10 and f-16 as it should. tacan displays on the hsi ( on the ddi's/ mfd's) in the 18 and av8b just fine. I guess I just don't know how to fully use the analog HSI correctly in say the a-10. The learning never ends i suppose! Thanks again for the help!
-
Ahh okay that makes sense then! I knew that a tanker wouldn't respond if it wasn’t the correct type, but that model have both boom and drogue threw me off I guess.I figured it did both types, and was fully functional. I will change it up and add an additional boom tanker and use two and see if that works out. Thanks for the responses!
-
Didn’t understand the tacan thing until reading above posts, I have only used it for ground, I will play with it some, not as important at the moment lol . I was trying in the a-10 and f-16. I only have one option for a kc-135 tanker. But it has both boom at the tail and drogue at the wingtips when it spawns. I figured it was equipped for both types. It was automatically selected as tanker. I have it hot starting in the air. So maybe since my racetrack only has the single waypoint, aside from the initial spawn point, maybe thats why its not responding right away, since its not technically at the racetrack start? I will test that out, that didn’t cross my mind. I was trying to contact for “intent to refuel” right away ,before and after takeoff, long before it ever got to the “racetrack start” waypoint. That would make sense.
-
Decided its time to practice AAR after avoiding it for the last few years. Setup a kc-135 in my training scenario I made a couple years back. Kc 135 is set as a tanker. 1 waypoint ( besides 0) setup as racetrack, all is good there. At initial point is advanced action to turn on tacan ( i set it for arbitrary 33x channel) radio is checked and set as default channel 251. Problem is ( two actually) when I hop in a plane, set radio to 251( even though I use easy comms, I still make a habit of tuning the radios) and call the initial contact I get no response, in any aircraft I try. From the ground, in the air, even right on the tankers backside. Also when tuning the tacan to 33x as I have set and set to a/a-t/r it doesn't seem to point me in the right direction, or any real direction for that matter. It’s entirely possible that I I’m not reading it right, but none of the needles/ arrows point towards the tanker. I’m not great with the mission editor so I’m thinking I haven’t got something set right, or maybe its and issue with the kc135 itself? I have also tried, at initial point, advanced action for the tanker to tune radio to 251. But still no response. Any ideas? As far as setting it up, all I did was place the tanker( which under advanced it set itself as tanker -a and setup the turn on tacan), set the racetrack up with alt, speed etc. and change the tacan frequency and hit go. Bear in mind it took me an hour to figure out how to make a simple racetrack, thats how little I know, be easy on me

Mine constantly crashes too.. in a basic instant action/ freeflight it seems to work fine but any actual mission/ campaign/ MP server it runs fine for a couple of minutes then goes back to the mainscreen. I can go right back in for a couple minutes, then crashes. Used the newest updater from GitHub, all scripts are fine.. I have been using DCS’s-ufc for over a year now and it runs perfect ( still an issue with the f-16 profile skipping pages). But connection wise it never misses a beat, even with Helios and SRS running at the same time. The Nav app keeps disconnecting though. Export.lua has helios first, pwscript second, srs third, and voice attack 4th but commented out. -edit- I spoke too soon, now dcs-ufc is crashing every couple minutes. I will reinstall, repair etc .all was working fine before installing the nav app.. not sure what is going on -edit- removed everything I could find related to the apps, dcs repair, reinstalled and setup everything , same result. Works for a few minutes then crashes.

missing info FLIR OVERWHITENING ON A10C (NIGHT)
MadKreator replied to doclucio's topic in Improved FLIR System
Been this way a longtime(in pancake mode too) not just in the a-10. I notice this a lot in the harrier too. From 25 miles away I can zoom in and see every object with great contrast to the surroundings, regardless of flir mode.. as you get close they all but completely completely blend into the terrain (cold mind you). The varying brightness levels also apply to zooming the pod in as well as aircraft distance. As you zoom in and out the contrast and image varies greatly. Not sure if the enemies blending that well into the terrain is a real thing, but I feel like it shouldn’t be different at range. You almost have to choose either A: you spot them from a long ways away when they’re easy to see and set them all as markpoints or too’s, or B: wait until you fly close enough to start getting shot at, to get an idea of where to look lol I’m not saying it should necessarily be really easy, but a little more consistency would be nice.It seems as though up close, the surface textures are magnified in such a way that they completely blend into the objects, but far away the textures are so fine( maybe the way LOD is processed) that there is a clear contrast between objects and terrain. But then again perhaps this is the way the real tgp behaves depending on the lighting and situation It is worse on exported displays as well, but thats a whole different set of issues. -

I see this pretty much anytime I play. If I look for it. Instant action-Caucuses-f-16- takeoff is a good one to see the effect all over. Shows up most with thinner scattered cloud layers. I use clouds on ultra on 5120x1440 screen -
I hesitated on the harrier for a long time thinking, I have the f-18, f-16 and a-10c… it seems so lacking in comparison. Finally bought it, learned it and now its one of my favorites and most flown! Between it and the a-10 the f-16 gets a whirl here and there for SEAD but I haven’t touched the hornet for almost two years now, other than a free flight or two. Love the av8b!

Possibly something easy like preload radius set to high eating up ram. DCS can eat 32 gigs pretty quickly, but with ddr5 it should be fast enough to compensate but maybe not.. just a thought.. Usually with32 gigs or less they recommend to setup 32 gig pagefile as well. I have 64 gigs and I’ve seen dcs chew up over 40 at times… in windows ( at least on windows 11) there’s a setting called hardware advanced gpu scheduling(HAGS, something to that effect) its recommended by several people to disable that. Not sure what it does really but its something to try. Thats a massive drop from 144 to the20/30s…. Hopefully someone has had a similar issue that will chime in. It sounds very frustrating. Might run the game with task manager window open and see if there’s a certain app or process thats randomly interfering, or being a cpu hog for those few seconds. I run icue on mine without any issues but I did read something the other day about icue interfering with some games.

requested A-10C II HMCS Align With TrackIR ?
MadKreator replied to Wrecking Crew's topic in Wishlist
The problem with the HMQS systems is that they all stay centered on the screen regardless of where you actually look with trackIR. It would nice if there was an offset function to make it move positions based on where you are looking on the screen. I’ve requested this as have many others over time, and its seems to go un-noticed, or it is not an easy thing to decouple from the screen space as a lot of us would like. You can make track ir move a farther distance relative to head movement but the HMQS is still staying in the center of the physical screen sadly. -
@TopCat SE There are many squadrons to choose from, as well as open groups you could join on Discord. Lots of people willing to help out with training in these groups. Look up Tactical DCS. ( there are many other great groups as well) They do open training/ missions, liberation dynamic campaign missions every week in bot North america and UK time zones. You can join the training classes or just sit in and listen. There are many groups that host events but I haven’t seen much in the way of league type play, but I also don’t look for that. Multiplayer has a few servers that are basically jus PVP dogfighting if thats your thing. When you download DCS make sure you use the Beta version if you want the largest access to multiplayer. DCS is very complex and challenging. It’s definitely not a hop and go shoot sh*t kind of thing.. Your first full fidelity module could take months of practice to become proficient ( or efficient) in, and even then you may have not become familiar with every system and way to apply the things you’ve learned. It gets frustrating at times, but the patience and persistence pays off. One step at a time, even if people want to get right to the action, Its next to impossible without learning multiple aircraft systems and controls in decent depth. When I first started I stuck it in game mode and wanted to just hit next target and shoot things, like many older sims.. Got kind of bored with it after a little bit, then probably two years later decided to really give it a go. Bought the f-18 ( even though I owned the a-10) and really started learning it.. I never looked back! Now I regularly swap between the f-18, f-16, av8b harrier and a-10c2 with a little dabble in the f-5e, p-51 and Huey. Now if I hop on a more arcade style sim, its just not fun for me. Even say, for example hopping in the f-18 in msfs2020, where some of my friends think its the coolest ever( non dcs people) it absolutely pales in comparison to the model in DCS. If you dont use Discord, download it. A LOT of interactions with squadrons, server owners ( Hoggit,Through the inferno, 4ya, Lima-Kilo Tactical DCS etc) and other dcs related things are through discord. There are many many people out there willing to help new-comers in their journey. Watch lots of YouTube videos too. And if you want some good ol’ learn by the book kind of training, look up “Chuck’s Guides” He ( and probably a team) writes very, very in depth manuals on every aspect of most all aircraft in dcs, like 500+ pages with pictures, diagrams, controls, functions etc. on every system in the aircraft, even some history of the planes and technical diagrams of the real things. Welcome to DCS!

I too am curious of the whole spherical earth/ map thing. Why is that so important for DCS? Just for realism? Should it affect weapons/ radars/ navigation/ communications? Would a casual like myself really care/ notice one way out the other? Or is it just because the earth is round and so should the game modeled accordingly? Probably a topic for another thread but a quick enlightenment wouldn’t be so bad. -I’m not necessarily talking about a whole earth “map”, I understand that model. But for a standalone map. -
Realistic re-arm, refuel and repair times for the new EDDCE
MadKreator replied to Lace's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I would love to see this regarding ground crews. I’d 100% wait an extra few minutes or whatever, to actually see crews roll up with carts of munitions, fuel trucks pull up and actually do their thing! For me that would be worth a bit of extra wait time! As far as the realistic repair time, it can go both ways. Does the time skip forward and mission progress, are you locked to that one single aircraft? Or does that one airframe go in the shop and is out of commission for a few days, game time( or however long), and you can catch a ride over to another jet in parking( if available) and continue on? Exit game in the middle of your sortie before landing, well you just lost that airframe unit another one can be delivered. Several interesting ways this could be implemented. Finding the balance to keep the realism/purists folks satisfied and not take the fun/ game factor away from the more casual players would be the hurdle I suppose. Could be played out any way if the right menu options are implemented. Things like this would take this sandbox style game/sim and really give it meaning and coax people to strive to do better ( not everyone of course some would be severely annoyed or turned away I’m sure). Really make use of all of the different ways these jets can be used, and having to use a more tactical approach. As opposed to going full sail at everything , getting shot down with no consequence, because who cares. With three clicks you can just re-spawn in a new jet and haphazardly go on your merry way Give DCS that real feeling of accomplishment. If you want to just casually shoot stuff up for fun, well there’s always War Thunder another few clicks away.
