No way i could go back to 1080. Same reason I don’t play vr, cool feeling like you’re in the plane, but I can’t stand the crap graphics lol I didn’t spend butt loads of money on a gaming pc for games to look like an original xbox the dot in the air… meh… Iv’e never seen one apparently so may as well leave it out completely. I always have zoom in/out on a hat on my throttle. I’ve always thought that was the way people spotted other aircraft lol That’s how I’ve done it for years.. maybe thats why I’m bad at dogfighting
-
Ive been on 1440 widescreens since I started playing, and I never knew there were dots of any sort for aircraft. I’m assuming its similar to the labels being dot only for ground vehicles? Never in my life have seen an aircraft until I it starts rendering on my screen within a few miles lol

Ahh man , I love the clear canopy mod.. not to make it perfectly clear but just to dull down the overdone baked on scratches and things ( av8b is one of the worst offenders). I like it to still look like there’s a canopy there but just a newer canopy lol I mean if you want a clear canopy that passes IC, just take off with the canopy open it’ll be more clear than its ever been ( I personally would rather have all these aircraft textures factory fresh and not used and abused). In some cases such as the av8b I can see an “unfair advantage” as its canopy is very difficult to see out of at certain viewing and lighting angles, but you’re not really hunting air targets and dogfighting in a harrier either( most people). And for pve, no one probably cares one bit anyway. I also use helios and export all sorts of viewports and I really don’t care to fly without it, so I fly servers that don’t care. There’s plenty of servers that don’t have strict IC

All 100% fair assessments! I am not sold on it by any means, just thought it wasn’t a terrible idea at first glance. @Minhal I completely see it from your perspective as well. ED did completely remove “Game Mode” from DCS to make it less gamey so if they’re going to add unrealistic features, make them optional… It seemed like a decent midpoint between having no effects/ indications at all and the gamey BDA overlay, which I’ll admit I do use, but in servers and missions without it I have no problem using the tgp or circling an area looking around to see what damage I did or didn’t do. What I do 1000% agree with is that there are many more outstanding issues or QOL improvements( better multi monitor support, better ultrawide support, multiplayer IC issues, finishing the texturing for last two vehicles for the flir system, flickering ground shadows, i could go on for days lol) that time could be better spent on. I don’t know sh*t about software development so my opinions on what should be done first are moot at best

Idk, I’m kind of on the opposite side of this. I think it’s kind of a neat feature. Sure its not realistic in every scenario. If you blast rounds from your a-10 through the back of a truck full of infantry or AAA in the bed, and somehow don’t hit the fuel tank, but take out the rear end, the truck is immobilized, combat ineffective, but how are you supposed to know that from the cockpit on your next pass?At least the light smoke gives you an indication that you actually hit your target if there was nothing at all then how many passes are you going to take over the same thing until you hope you destroyed it? Sure it may not be like actual real life, but DCS is still a “game/SIM/ for entertainment”. There has to be some give and take imo. It beats the hell out of having a health bar over ever enemy ( that is 100% NOT okay ). Maybe the practicality isn’t really there, it may not really be that useful, but what’s wrong with them trying something new. Its no more ridiculous that having a slider to adjust the density of chimney smoke coming from buildings. I can’t say its a feature I’ve ever thought up personally, or something I’ve ever had an issue with( state of damage). I’ve spent much more time trying to differentiate destroyed targets and full hot targets through a TGP( that imo needs some severe attention). Not trying to argue against anyone’s point if view just sharing my own initial thoughts on it.

I live in the high desert in Idaho USA and even in my neighborhood the majority of trees are equivalent to 3-5 story buildings. The pine trees around can be much much taller getting into the forest… however there are an equal amount( not a statistic) of smaller 1-2 story trees and smaller all over. I personally think the whole tree system needs a revamp ( Taz’s mods are amazing for this). Time to ditch the billboard trees

Grayflag, blue flag/ buddy spike, ddcs, enigma, LK flashpoint Levant, tempest, return pre-contact. There are quite a few. 4ya, Hoggit etc are fine but more beginner friendly I would say.

Helios 1.6 - Official Thread
MadKreator replied to derammo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Best to ask on CaptZeen discord. F-15 being an old profile for an older version of helios, may need code work done in the interface to bring things up to date and make some functions work. I know I’ve seen captnzeen comment on the difficulty of fc3 aircraft and he has had to use lots of tricks to get things to work and some things just don’t -
I wish for a new function in next HELIOS release
MadKreator replied to frank's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Best to request on helios’ GitHub so any devs can see it.( I don’t really ever see BluFin or other contributors on here).. Or even ask on captnzeen discord, someone may have an idea of how to trick it. You could always photoshop ( cut out ) the section of graphic from the profile image and use it as the button graphic , as opposed to trying to create a transparent image.. making more of a camouflaged button instead, with the press being a slightly enlarged version or a different image all together.. . May be a chore but might be what you’re after. Lots of ways to trick helios into doing what you want. Might be hard pressed to have a feature added that isn’t widely sought after from the community. Bluefin is a great guy, but as he once told me, unless its a feature that would greatly benefit the majority of the community or Helios as a whole, or something he’s had on his mind, it probably won’t get implemented if its something that someone could figure out in couple hours, that may take days or weeks of his free time to write code for. Which is understandable being a free, open source program that no one is getting paid to develop or support. But if anyone figures it out, they’re welcome to submit it to be added to helios via GitHub. I’m not sure of your use case for a transparent button, but it is an interesting idea~- 1 reply

I’ll have to admit, after using track IR for quite a while, pushing as much fps as I could( usually in the 90’s) with 120hz monitor. After I started using Helios and capped my fps at 60 so the helios gauges run smoothly, I really did feel like it smoothed track IR out. Don’t get me wrong it’s always been fast and snappy, never laggy or anything, but I swear on my life I noticed a difference as well Equally as smooth when running capped and solid at 120 fps. Anything in between seems to give slightly more small jitters. Maybe its true on some setups, maybe a placebo, i don’t really know

Criticism and opinions come from passion most of the time not hate ( I’d like to believe). We are all still here playing because we love DCS! Deep down the vast majority of us really appreciate everything the ED team does for us! Never said enough, but truly thank you guys for all of your hard work and dedication!

Fair enough I’ve used SRS for so long its second nature I suppose. I will admit its almost overly complex. I’ve never used more than the most very basic functions of it. I’m definitely not advocating srs is the best thing ever, especially not for new users. A built in one would/will be great when its complete enough to compete ( with the mindset of: my buddies and I actually use xbox chat on the pc over any games built in ones because it is solid and great clarity ( over COD’s built in chat for example)). Point being, people will migrate to whatever functions the best. I’ve yet to see public servers that use the in-game VoIP over srs or discord( which I’m not a fan of personally). I am very interested in being able to create your own radio sounds that ed mentioned. I would love all the chat to actually sound like its a real aircraft radio!
-
I can see the in game voip being easier for new users not having to add any 3rd party apps, but I have to agree, its a bit late in the game to work on voip when SRS has been the standard for a long long time. I don’t see any server owners jumping ship unless it beats out SRS by leaps and bounds. IMO it would have been better to pay royalty(ies) to the SRS devs and incorporate it into the game. ( same could be said for lots of great mods, barthek’s terrain mods, Taz’s tree mods etc) If ED had a slew of official dedicated servers that used the built in voip, then it makes more sense, but adding tiny bits of functionality every year or two isn’t going to keep up with SRS or discord chat..dev time could be better spent somewhere else… ED’s game, their choice, and this is just one mans opinion of course

This does the same on flat screen as well.. with default shadows selected they move and flicker like crazy, but flat shadows are solid and no flickering at all

Water qualitiy cost much performance, even if there is no water around
MadKreator replied to Wali763's topic in DCS 2.9
Always wondered this myself. Why on earth wouldn’t the water only be rendered where its seen? -
HUD only view w/o LUA programming
MadKreator replied to Boogie Mitchell's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think the ViewportHandling.lua is a pretty generic file, I honestly couldn’t say what anything in the file actually does lol Its probably kind of a blanket to cover a variety of things.. I asked one day about getting rid of on-screen mfd’s and someone replied with what I showed you.. Thats literally all I understand about it… But I would still do a slow repair ( or verify file integrity if on steam) of dcs and see if it got corrupted or something weird. I don’t use vr that much mostly 2d , but it is definitely possible that some of the code in there is obsolete and not used anymore -
HUD only view w/o LUA programming
MadKreator replied to Boogie Mitchell's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Its definitely weird, I run win 11. I do have show hidden files ON but I can’t imagine anything in dcs would be hidden by that. But I suppose its possible. Wonder if you do a slow repair to dcs if it will show back up. As far as I can remember its part of the core game, not something created when you do exports.. that only changes and creates a different monitor config file. -
There is a mod by Taz to clear up the canopies, works good. Have to find it in user files or the modding parts of the forum. Passes IC as well

HUD only view w/o LUA programming
MadKreator replied to Boogie Mitchell's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think its always there… dcs main folder, scripts, aircraft, _common, cockpit… should be in there near the bottom. IDK why it wouldn’t find it.. -
[FIXED] Part of HUD always at full brightness
MadKreator replied to arneh's topic in Problems and Bugs
Same issues here, parts of hud/ mfd’s stay at full brightness regardless of brightness setting.. symbology buttons only dim some elements on mfd’s. At night the bright parts of the hud (ladder, ew symbologies, compass) all kind of flicker brighter and darker like a candle. ( expported mfd’s affected as well) Oh and also flood lights don’t cast light, but they turn on. -

not a problem! its really nice especially on night missions -

MadKreator replied to Boogie Mitchell's topic in DCS Core Wish List
@Boogie Mitchell in ovgme, create main folder for mod, call it what you like.. in that create folder Scripts, in that create Aircrafts, in that create _Common, in there Cockpit, and in that folder paste a copy of the ViewportHandling.lua (from your dcs main install) folder. open it( the one in your ovgme mod folder) and modify line 81, comment out render_purpose.GENERAL. save it.. enable it under your dcs core/main directory/path in ovgme... Doesn't work on the a-10c for some reason though.
