  1. Obviously haven't used the Warthog yet. :):joystick:
  2. Well, my point was to share a nice video of pilots using binoculars and methods of locating targets in RL that are applicable to in game. With regards to using zoom during an attack being "cheating", I refer you the second pilot in the video I linked describing how during an attack run you do devote all your attention to the target: That to me sounds like zooming during an attack run is not only not cheating but is in fact far more realistic than not zooming during an attack run. So really, not using zoom would be cheating. :smilewink::pilotfly:
  3. DCS: A-10C has built in mappings. The game ships with lua files you load from within the game to map the HOTAS controls to the controller. There's not really a need to run TARGET if all you're playing is A-10C so no need for a TARGET profile for the game. :)
  4. That's the very reason I haven't touched TARGET yet. I'm assuming that if TARGET isn't running at the moment, everything works per defaults with DCS: A-10C, but I'm waiting for someone else to test it. :) I know with my old Saitek if I didn't specifically load some profile it would work like default, so hoping it's the same here.
  5. Do you have Easy Communications turned on in Options? Or just use regular radio comms. :) Mic Switch plus proper frequencies instead of easy mode.
  6. Numpad * :) Numpad / to zoom out, and Numpad Enter to reset to default.
  7. Get them both, just to be sure!
  8. I was trying to test something failing at 20,000 ft but forgot the mission editor was set to meters, so when I set it to 20,000 it automatically changed it to 13,700. I thought that was find, if not weird, and started the mission. Problem was 13,700 was meters, so instead of starting in air at 13,700ft I started at 45,000 ft... above the ceiling of the A-10C I guess, and my engines died as soon as I spawned in. The Windmill start was basically just two buttons and a whole lot of falling! Here's the information from page 582: After I got back under powered and level flight I still had like 5-10 minutes of restarting other systems and everything to get back into operation. Sadly my goal of losing CADC at 20,000 ft never happened, even after leaving the pitot heat off for 30 minutes...
  9. Same here, the AP yaw thing is murder usually. Glad it's not happening, and remember it's not supposed to happen, but just be aware that it can happen. :)
  10. I've kinda stopped using it because all it does is freeze your plane, everything else in the game world continues moving. Instead I've been doing a lot of circling and multiple passes to make up time for that kind of thing. 7-10nm away for me is panic time, since I'm over the target instantly. Can't seem to mark anything at 20m anymore, maybe view distance, I'll have to change that again.
  11. Get Lock On Platinum, it's $20 and includes FC2.
  12. LShift-F10 :) Or preparation.
  13. Thrustmaster Warthog
  14. I was like that with trim until very recently. I could never get the hang of it, I was always constantly overcorrecting and stuff. But over time I've got the feel for it, and I don't try to trim exactly anymore. Now it's a much smoother process for me and I'm able to quickly trim to how I want it without worrying about being perfect. Same thing with following waypoints. Though to be honest, the Beta3 autopilot bugs have me simply trimming more often than using AP. :) Can't wait till Beta4 fixes that, tired of shaking myself to death on AP.
  15. Made this last night: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=62548 It's nothing that isn't in the Options/Controls pages, but it's visually laid out so you can wrap your head around it better. :)
  16. Probably just experience as in "That looks to be about 3 miles out!"? Or time it using the clock? Usually though I think you'd have some kind of navigational fix on the air field that you'd be able to monitor distance with on the HUD, HSI or some other method. Maybe lock it with your TGP! :)
  17. Someone posted a really neat video of A-10s and their crew/daily life in Afghanistan the other night. Really interesting look at what it's like for the rest of us. :)
  18. The basic search searches the beta forums just fine. Sure you might get some results outside the beta forums, but it does search in them. :)
  19. Steerpoints. :) From the UFC press Func then 2 for NAV. Then on the CDU repeater (or CDU) choose Divert. That will list the 6 closest airfields to your current location. Choose one via the OSB to the left of the name. That next page will list the radio frequency for the airfield, hopefully more information but most importantly also set a steerpoint to field. So you can judge distance using that. If your HUD/electronics are out you can use stuff like ILS and TACAN, but I'm still iffy about doing that and only 3 airfields support is currently. So basically, Divert and steerpoint if you don't already have a waypoint for it.
  20. 1. No idea what you're talking about. I usually try to be on course to the airfield by about 5nm or so. 2. Yup, 90 degree turns from 5nm out or so, though I have been known to do 270 degree turns 2nm out! As you can tell by my answers, I'm a horrible lander! Basically just try to get it close enough and call it good. Got 35 recorded landings so far (vs 51 deaths...) so I'm not the best to ask, but don't worry about being perfect with landing. As you keep practicing and get the basics down, then start to worry about perfect patterns and all that kind of thing.
  21. The mapping you want is Weapons Release, usually mapped to a button on the stick.
  22. But it's so pretty in color! Pretty but like $400...
  23. Have you changed mappings somehow?
  24. Why are you double posting this question when your other thread already had the answer?
