  1. Flying the AoA guage was key to my longest ever DCS A-10C unrefuelled flight, 8 hours and 1 minute. With the ferry range listed in various sources as 2240 nm I was curious to see what the sim could do non-stop, with no in flight refueling. I started out with full fuel, no weps, and 3 external 600 gallon fuel tanks. Zero wind conditions. Climb to altitude was slooow. Step climbed higher as fuel was burned and weight decreased. Adjusted airspeed to achieve an AoA between max range and max endurance, as shown on the AoA indicator. Jettisoned external tanks as they ran dry. (although I messed up with the center tank... releasing it while it still had some fuel in it.) At FL350 with external tanks gone and fuel remaining at approx 4000lbs, I was able to get the fuel burn down to 2000lbs/hr (total). As weight decreased I was able to reduce power and fuel burn. I did not try any higher than FL350. At 7 hours 30 minutes into the flight, both fuel low level caution lights came on with approx. 1000 lbs fuel remaining. On landing the total flight time 8 hours and 1 minute. Average fuel burn over the 8 hour flight was 2625 lbs/hr. Consumed approx 21000 lbs fuel, with 300 Lbs remaining on landing. At an average g/s of approx. 305 kts. I calculate the total distance covered in this flight at approx 2440 nm.
  2. "The United States has bought two Su-27 Flanker fighter aircraft to help train U.S. air force pilots to cope with the growing number of 4th-generation Russian aircraft sold around the world" Read more: http://www.defencetalk.com/us-buys-su-27-fighters-from-ukraine-for-aggressor-training-18795/#ixzz1rSLYUEh5 Here is a pic of one of the Tac Air SU-27's: http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/blogs/defense/index.jsp?plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogscript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3A27ec4a53-dcc8-42d0-bd3a-01329aef79a7Post%3A36be72c4-1223-493f-bc10-073b0f15112e
  3. An error has been noted in rev 8b. Page 13. The following line is incorrect: Set HUD as SOI.........................China hat up short This should read: Set HUD as SOI.........................Coolie hat up short Please pencil in this change on pg 13 of your checklist. The next amendment will include this correction. Thanks CubPilot for pointing this out.
  4. Have a look at these two video's. 1st is a Mig-29 crash at Paris airshow. Note the commentary about the nozzle positions. Right eng failure due to bird ingestion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MQk1yvsoKY This next one is a CF-18 crash in Lethbridge alberta. Right eng failure. Note the nozzles. Accident report preliminary for above CF-18 http://www.rcaf-arc.forces.gc.ca/dfs-dsv/nr-sp/index-eng.asp?id=11159 Moral of the story seems to be if you are slow at high AoA and have an engine failure in a Mig-29 or F-18 you can expect VMC controllabilty issues. I'm not saying this is what happened with the Virginia crash, but it is interesting to see that the nozzles were not symmetric in the wreckage pics.
  5. Well then I am, even more, looking forward to the release of your checklist for the "Magic carpet with machine guns" er P-51.
  6. “The Mustang flies like every aircraft should. With lots of power and beautifully harmonized controls, it is a joy to fly. The first time you push the throttle up can only be compared to the exhilaration of your first solo, because there is your life before the Mustang, and there is your life after the Mustang, because it will never be the same. It's a magic carpet armed with machine guns.” Jim Harley, a pilot of Betty Jane, a P-51B/C operated by the Collings Foundation. http://www.aopa.org/aircraft/articles/2012/120403p-51-romps-to-become-challenge-champion.html Yeah, I'm looking forward to DCS P-51. :)
  7. Paulrkii your work is superb as usual! I now have an understanding of what a huge amount of work goes into a doc like this... Thanks for this latest work. You are an incredible asset to the community. Cheers Lobo
  8. Hi blave, hyesj23, and weegee101. Your welcome. Glad you guys are finding it of some use.
  9. The file has been updated and the link on the first page is working now. Available for download. This is update version 8b. I've added two new pages. A x-wind chart and a weapons and capability quick ref chart with info specific to the weapons which can be carried on A-10C. This update also includes several minor corrections and editorial changes. Summary of changes can be found on page 41. http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/172905/
  10. Superb! Thank you for this! Do you do this for Jeppesen? These are of extremely high quality.
  11. An updated version of the checklist (8b) was uploaded to the DCS user files page yesterday. Hopefully it will be checked and made available for DL shortly. Cheers
  12. Updated version 8b has been submitted. I've added two new pages. A x-wind chart and a weapons and capability quick ref chart with info specific to the weapons which can be carried on A-10C. This update also includes several corrections and editorial changes. Also added a summary of changes page at the end of the document. Lobo
  13. Right you are! Thanks will fix it in the next update.
  14. Hi Viper Just checked again. Player controlled A-10 vs an excellent TOR 9A331. No ECM, no CM. I can overfly the TOR at 27,000' he will track me on radar (getting 15 RWR symbol) but he will not launch. If I drop below 26,000' he will launch missiles. I arrived at the "engagement max alt" numbers on the my chart trying to answer the following question. What is the min alt at which the player can safely overfly a specific enemy "excellent" anti-aircraft system without it launching weapons at the player controlled A-10 which is not using ECM or CM. I know, I know. track or it didn't happen... ;) Excuse the lousy flying was using the keyboard. VS SA-15.trk
  15. Should be back up soon! I made a minor change in the file description and included the file version. Apparently any changes or edits to a users uploaded files requires checking before the file is available for download. Cheers :book:
  16. Amiga here also. Spent a lot of time with F18 interceptor and Birds of Prey! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O1Wes7Othk&feature=youtube_gdata_player Still have the old Amiga in a closet!
  17. Hi dwpenney and Magadon. Good to hear that it is working for you guys on Android and the iPad2! Let me know if you see anything that needs correction etc. Thanks.
  18. Your welcome Booger! Gross nick btw. lol. Has anyone tried it on the IPAD? I am quite pleased with how the checklist works in electronic format. Many hyperlinks allowing you to touch an item on the index and it takes you directly to that page. At the bottom of each page there is a link to touch and take you back to index.
  19. Well there are six pages of acronyms at the back of A-10C Warthog manual starting on pg 661. :)
  20. Hi GGTharos, just looking at the -1 (for the A-10A), as well as paulrkii's checklist and they both show the APU start and then the APU gen switched on, later the APU gen off and then the APU off. This is how I have it in my checklist in the before start and before taxi checks, is this not correct with the A-10C? Thanks.
  21. Thanks for adding to the collection MemphisBelle. Will make the correction with the next revision.
  22. Thanks Ghanja. The official DCS A-10C manual does list the SA-13 as a possible symbol in the sim. pg 412. However I just checked in the sim and you are correct. The SA-9 and 13 do not show RWR symbols... Well I do see the "M" once in a while. :helpsmilie: Will adjust in next update.
  23. Lobo's DCS A-10C Normal Checklist & Quick Reference Handbook http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/172905/ A checklist and quick reference handbook for DCS A-10C. Formatted as PDF, it can be used in either printed form or on the IPAD. Originally a rough collection of notes and tips gleaned from the manuals, forums, training guides, video's and checklists for my own personal use. I've tidied it up a bit and am putting it out for anyone who would like to use it for non-cercial use. Reasons for this checklist/QRH (Quick Reference Handbook)... I wanted a checklist that was formatted to more closely resemble the checklists used in my flt ops dept. I've gone through the lessons and used many of the superb community based training guides and checklists. I'm getting comfortable with the location of the various switches and controls in the virtual A-10C, and as such wanted a checklist that reflected this and was presented in a more abbreviated format. The checklist should be in a format that works equally well as both a printed and electronic document. Designed to fit in standard plastic approach plate protectors 5.5x8.5” (ie the ASA 7-Ring Approach Plate Sheet Protectors), this PDF also works very well on the IPAD being fully indexed with hyperlinks and return to index link on each page. I am not able to fly the sim every day, so it was important that the checklist would guide me (acting as a refresher) and help me to take a cold jet through to takeoff, fence in/out checks, after landing and shutdown checks. After landing if you need repairs, refuel or rearm you stay in the checklist and it will flow you all the way back to take-off. As well the checklist would incorporate quick reference guides for weapons employment, air refueling, hot pit rearming, refueling and repairs. The checklist includes items on TM Warthog HOTAS to ensure it is properly configured prior to start. Credits: I can not take credit for all of the information in this document. My contribution is the assembling of the information and reformatting of it into a single document. This checklist would not be possible without the invaluable help found on the DCS and SimHQ forums, as well as the training documents and checklists created by the community. With this in mind I would like to thank the following in particular: BlueRidgeDx, Derelor, EinsteinEP, James “Eddie” Knight, MemphisBelle, nemises, paulrkii, shu77, toby23, War Hawks, WarriorX. Special thanks to the teams at Eagle Dynamics and Digital Combat Simulator, for an amazing simulation. Any errors in the document are mine. Cheers Lobo
  24. Ah! Thanks! :book:
