  1. So, paid my Soldier's Shilling, got my order number, but no download yet.... (Insert sad face here). "I want my Falklands Map" (Sung to "I Want My MTV).
  2. In my case, my bank sent me a notice that my "Recurring Charge" to Eagle was higher than normal this month.... wait, "recurring charge?" Has it been that many months in a row????
  3. You can always turn on simple steering....that way it is easier. I don't have it checked, but some people seem to like it.
  4. I have fallen off the deck a few times, as a result of the nose wheel castering...but that's just the way it goes. If the Forrestal had a deck crew with a tiller bar...but then again, if frogs had wings. Even with the whole falling off the deck thing, I love the A-4.
  5. F-105D, FB-111, A-6, A-7 and please, please, please, an OV-10
  6. Right, but the Army retained the O-1s while the Air Force and Gyrenes switched to O-2s and OV-10s. Heck, I'd be happy with ANY of them, and have them be ED sponsored aircraft so that the servers would all have them. Some of us like jobs other than flying high and flinging missiles at other jets...
  7. It was a beauty no doubt about that....and could fill a bigger combat role that the 172 did (ordinance wise). But, for those of us that love the A4 and F4, F105 era, we need the 172 bird dog, as well.
  8. well, the Bird Dog was a modified (slightly) 172, so I would love to have one here. Failing that, I need to figure which prop plane to get to act as one. I really think there is a niche to fill with a good spotter aircraft. The 172 with rockets is what the original bird dog from Korea and Viet Nam was. We need some kind of spotter aircraft! In a perfect world, we could get both the mil version of the 172 and an OV-10 Bronco...but I'd settle for either one.
  9. You do know that the OV-1 Bird dog was a modified Cessna 172, right?
  10. Plus, the A4 is just a fun airplane to fly. Sure, not as many bells and whistles, but for putting warheads on foreheads, it is a great plane.
  11. Not that I have noticed. I've set it both ways and it always acts like a high drag bomb.
  12. Just another vote for the F-105. I'd specifically like the D model, but any 105 would be great. And as long as we are talking, a nice F-111 would be super sweet. (Yes, I am an old Cold Warrior, and depended on those things being there if the balloon ever went up).
  13. Would love to see the Fulda Gap. That whole area around Alsfeld, the Vogelberg, Kinzeg Valley... That's my old stomping ground. We'd need the F111 and F105 to go with it, though. They were what we relied on to save our asses if the balloon went up. Also another vote for Viet Nam...
  14. There have been issues with clocks. I had to resynch my 'puter to fix the issue. (all my maps and planes had that message). Resynch the clock fixed it all.
  15. I have the game on one drive (D) but the saved games (user files) on C. Works ok. SSD drives are fairly cheap, a TB runs about what a plane runs (unless there is a sale on). It is WELL worth having the space on a TB drive to locate the game. It really does make a HUGE difference in game operation and play
  16. I would learn the A4 rather than the F15, since the FC3 planes are not clickable cockpits and the Phantom is s'posed to be (at least to my understanding). When going back and forth between the A4 and other EFM planes and the FC3 planes, you really notice a difference in flight performance as well. Hopefully the F4 will be a great addition, since flying in the A4 I'm needing some one to cover my behind!
  17. I still can't drop a bomb with the F-5 yet that will hit anything...but yes, it is a lot of fun to fly. Faster than the A-4, but I haven't put the hours into it yet.
  18. I look at this a bit differently. What do YOU want to do with DCS? Are you a fly high and shoot missiles at other planes type of guy? Do you like dropping iron bombs on people? Do you want to go BRrrrrrtttt! with the Wart Hog? Figure that out first. What type of air combat do you want to emulate? After that, it becomes easier to figure out what to do. I like dropping things on bad guys, not so in to the whole dog fight the other guy type of thing. Flying around at 25,000 feet tossing missiles at other guys doesn't interest me, so I have the A-4, the AV8, the F-5 and use the Su-25T. (Really, really wanting a good F-105, too!) Those planes fit what I want to do, and have (and are) providing me with hours and hours of fun. That's the whole point of this thing, having fun. Figure out what you want to do, get the planes you need to do that. Easy. They all have a learning curve, it just takes time - and that is also a part of the fun, learning how to do what the planes do.
  19. I am sure there is a story behind that knickname.... Looking forward to this as an adjunct to my A4 flights....
  20. Well, almost 250 hours in, and really, really enjoying the A4. The new update is great, having the M77 cover more area. And the CB2 changes work wonderfully. Thanks for all you guys have done, and continue to do, with this.
  21. Ok, I am not sure if this is the correct place for this or not, being relatively new here and all, so if not, back up ten yards and punt it to where it should be... I have been flying the A-4 a lot (well, exclusively) lately. Been bombing things. A lot. Anyway, when it comes to the WWII mod ships, specifically the IJN carriers, bombs don't seem to do a lot of damage...unless you are using a cluster munition. That will sink a carrier really fast. Ok, I get it. The IJN did not have armored decks on most of the Kido Butai. Armored decks didn't show up until the later carriers...but still, a CBU doing lethal damage while a two thousand pound Mk bomb does 5%? Maybe if the deck was loaded with planes ready for launch (which was never the case, even at Midway) it seems odd that a CBU would sink a ship while a one ton bomb does little damage.... Am I thinking too hard about this?
  22. Re synched my clock, and that worked for me.
  23. I'm in this boat, as well, but it isn't just my terrains - it is all the aircraft as well....not sure what is going on.
  24. Being a former tanker, I like the ground pounding mud movers, so instead of getting a flashy fast air to air missile carrier, I went with the bomb toting Harrier, the A4-E and the F-5 - they fit what I want to do with DCS. That, I think, is the key to what to buy. What do YOU want to do in DCS? Do you want to be a high flying missile slinging fighter joke, duking it out with the other guys for bragging rights? If so, there are a great number of excellent aircraft for that role. What time period do you like? Answer these questions and the rest is easy to figure out.
