OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
edmuss replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
I believe that you're right with the brain and eyes making some compensation and that if you record the output it will be shaky without the smoothing filter; trackir will have the filter applied to it. I think you'll see the same with any headset if no filtering is applied. As I said with the filtering disabled the KA50 shkval movement is fast and jittery when slaved to the helmet mounted sight, add the motion filter and it's much smoother. Can't record a track as I'm at work though, I would bet that you get the same result - I don't think it's a specific issue to the G2 though -
OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
edmuss replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
I've never experienced shaky tracking with my G2 and I use it in dim red light. You can use the openxr tookit to apply shaking smoothing but the only time I would want to use it would be for scanning for targets using the HMD and shvkal in the KA50. Note that enabling the shaking smoothing will cause significant reprojection artifacts if you have it on. -
Make pilot model transparent around the game cursor
edmuss replied to Rapierarch's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Generally I think it's more efficient to bind to the hotas, using modifiers gives you infinite variations now that you can combine them. Additionally modifiers bound in the UI layer for example can be dual bound to other module specific functions. For example I use warthog pinky paddle + mic switch + trim hat left and right in the UI layer to enable/disable the respective leap motion hands, I still bind the mic switch to coms menu in each module and use the pinky paddle as a separate module specific modifier. Combine the above with joystick gremlin and you have an incredibly powerful tool and undiyne buttons to use- 37 replies

No, I have it on my spindle storage drive whilst DCS is on the nvme, works perfectly. DCS shouldn't be installed in the program files directory though.

It's about 4800 I think it works out to be, hooray for the resolution not being the resolution and not scaling linearly 170% is the same as 59% in openxr toolkit and brings the render resolution back down to around 2600. My 3080ti simply doesn't have the horsepower to run the headset at that level of supersample but it does look good.

My G2 with the V1 cable would only work one single USB A port on my B450 motherboard, only through an adaptor and then it was hit and miss if it would connect immediately. V2 cable, no issues at all and it's running perfectly on the USB C port. I'd say you got lucky or the configuration of the motherboards USB power supply was able to keep the signal strong enough

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
edmuss replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Figured it would be implemented if it could have been, thanks for the confirmation -

Does anyone know if it's possible to play the different effects for each module without having to have DCS running? Mainly for setup and balancing or is it not that simple because of amplitude etc? -
But everyone should be undervolting their 5800x3D, which is my point; undervolt and the temps stay good as long as your cooling is adequate
-
My 5800x3D idles at ambient +10, typically about 32°C, in cinebenchR23 gets to 75 and in DCS between 65 and 75. This is with a 25mv undervolt set by pbo2tuner and a thermalright truespirit 140. Mine starts to throttle at 77°C, if it stays below that then it stays pegged at the full 4.45ghz.

Leap Motion - disappearing right hand
edmuss replied to Rosly's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Set a deadzone on your joystick or enable the hands move stick option (there are caveats to using this option). With the default settings as soon as control input is seen on the stick or throttle it hides the relevant hand. With the hands control option it's possible to virtually grab the hotas in the cockpit and that then gives control input but the hands wont be hidden at all. I'm using hands use control (as I'm setting up a non centring cyclic and I like to be able to hold the stick position with my left hand whilst controlling MFDs etc) but with the hands enabled/disabled on a binding from the UI layer. -
Make pilot model transparent around the game cursor
edmuss replied to Rapierarch's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I've been saying that we need this for a while now in VR, leap motion hands driving an IK rig; the VRIK mod for skyrimVR being the source of my suggestion. Likely not going to happen though- 37 replies

My procedure for leap motion working perfectly in DCS
edmuss replied to Swson's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Can you use the fingers to manipulate rotaries? I believe with pointctrl you click onto the control and rotate the wrist, is fingers comparable, if not how are mousewheel funtions handled? I don't think it would be impossible to have a mode toggle switch via joystick gremlin that enabled both hands and bound the mouse buttons to both parts of the hotas. I currently use pinky paddle + CMS switch on my warthog for the mouse, shouldn't be too hard to find a spare button combo (something like pinky paddle + APU start) to switch to a leap/mouse control layer which then rebinds a couple of hat switches to the mouse controls. -

Sorry, I should have clarified mouse buttons on the hotas -

Ah so if you have the mouse bound to hotas then you don't need the ring, might have to have a play with it -
No experience of the ah64 directly but are you using any modifier or mode switches in the DCS control bindings? These will allow you to switch to a different control set with either a toggle or temporary hold modifier. I use modifiers a lot with my warthog, using the stick pinky paddle and throttle mic switch to double up a lot of the bindings available that I use for various ancillaries, you can now also combine modifiers so you could use the paddle + mic + binding for triplication of available binds. In theory you should be able to set a multi position toggle on the throttle to act as a mode switch and then be able to apply the modifiers to that as well. Second the stick extension as well, I have a 75mm on my warthog and it transforms the stick, much more control and the movement over the centre is very lightweight, fingertip control for hovering in the hind without AP is possible without too much effort. My warthog is over 10 years old now though so well bedded in. A good set of rudder pedals (if you haven't already got some) are going to be essential though, I made my own and they transformed the helo experience but the MFG crosswinds have a very high reputation in these parts

Ah I see, I don't know if it's possible to do that by default. Perhaps it might be possible to do it utilising the fingers app but don't bind the click function? I think you would still get the cursor cross but the control interaction would be disabled. -
I was testing as a vanilla runtime, openvr Vs openxr with no upscaling and it's been consistently worse in steamvr. The reprojection artifacts are still better in steamvr but then it's just not nice using steamvr without it.

My procedure for leap motion working perfectly in DCS
edmuss replied to Swson's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you enable laser pointers it disables the touch activation but there's no binding to switch between them. If you make the pointers transparent then you'd struggle to activate anything -

Muscle memory, that's it. Once you've learned where the activation points are for each switch it becomes much easier. Laser pointers are disabled under the VR tab in the controller section on the right, set the drop down to no pointers. Hand hiding binds are in the UI layer I think. You can't disable the touch interaction per se, clenching a fist will prevent unwanted activations. It's only the index finger and thumb tip that can activate things. -
Steamvr has been something of a horror show the times I've tried it recently, 2-3ms slower and not even able to hold reprojection at 45hz, without reprojection is painful in comparison. I'm surprised you can't keep above 55fps due to CPU limitations or is this in MP where you're at the whim of the server and mission?

Reprojection on auto in DCS means that it's disabled, the auto setting is PURELY for MSFS, anything else it's turned off. To get it do what you want, set it to always on and leave the reprojection rate unlocked within openxr toolkit. The nomeculature is a little confusing but that's what you need to do Obviously locking framerate with reprojection enabled is a no go, with the 4090 you should be able to hold >55fps till the cows come home.
