Another advantage is that the method doesn't require LODs. It can render infinite detail without costing more GPU power. Its currently only limited by VRAM which has a lot of room for optimizations in the next months. Still early days, but it seems to have tremendous potential. If we had a gigabyte scene running locally, instead of a megabyte scene running in the browser, the potential would be more evident.

Gaussian Splatting is not AI based though, thats why its 10x faster than NeRFs. Its plain old math. You can't put an F14 into a 3D scanner, but you can now create a 3D scan just from images or photos. This puts the workflow in the hands of everyone not just people with commercial GPU racks or 3D scanners. Also true, it may be better at scanning large objects, which are too large for a 3D scanner. I.e. turning drone footage into terrain with houses, trees etc should be useful. As for lighting and shadows, yes these are baked ( for now ). But the development hast just started, we will see tools for removing light/shadows from GS scenes to light them dynamically.

The examples are static yes. But there's already a paper released which turns a video of a man walking into an animated 3D splat. It won't replace modelers but the pipelines could be all different, this is just the beginning. One month into the paper and we're seeing new stuff almost on a daily basis. So in 1-2 years time we may have the tools to build complex high quality models and cleanup the results. For now its a nice reference if you can import these into your 3DS rather than working from blueprints only.

Its not just rendering though. The method creates 3D scenes from photos or videos. So it's photogrammetry on steroids. Which can currently help modelers, i.e. you have a walk around video of a jet and can turn that into a full photorealistic 3D model, import that into your modeling software for reference. Ultimately, it could replace the existing modeling and texturing pipelines entirely. I.e. this Scout Helicopter was created from a few photos https://poly.cam/gaussian-splatting?capture=78c91eeb-f78d-4db2-af72-80fd321030ab Or checkout the APC https://poly.cam/capture/3417AAA9-AA38-45D6-A625-1644D22D3AE1 You can upload your own photos to create those scenes on that website. Hopefully more tools will come to cleanup the results.

Gaussian Splatting is a new breakthrough method for photorealistic rendering of point cloud data. Its using less GPU than conventional rendering, while achieving photo-realism at ease. I'm not very deep into 3D engines so I dont know if the point cloud data means its unusable for a game at the scale of DCS. But neither less, we can expect some great stuff coming from the rapid development of those applications. DLSS in MSFS looks better than without... on a 3070. If you have a 4090 and you can run native on ultra you will make things worse with DLSS
-
If an 85% framerate boost translates to DCS i could run ULTRA settings on my 3070. On another note, NVIDIA's business model has shifted from consumer GFX cards to data centers, hence they may not worry too much about cannibalizing their GPU sales.

I had the same issue, so I created this mod to fix it. I believe its caused by the hangar scene loading in background on the F10 map. Which seems to cause some memory leaks after switching forth and back. Disabling this scene fixed the issue for me. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3319867/

I have gotten it to work with https://precisiongazemouse.org/ It's important to disable Tobii head tracking via joystick button while you want to move the mouse as a cursor. I have also mapped Tobii Headtracker-Z axis to "Zoom View" inside DCS. Which allows me to lean back/forward to zoom in/out which I find really convenient. It's certainly not great but useable, maybe some more tweaking. Results improved, see next post. The main problem is that the DCS 3D cursor is so slow to respond and quite difficult to get into the right spot. So even if you are looking straight at the switch as indicated by the gray circle, the 3D mouse cursor won't recognize you're over the switch. The hit boxes are too small. They are easier to find with a real mouse as you can wiggle around, which is more difficult with your eyes. These are my settings: null

Im using JoyToKey to map the thumbstick absolute position to the absolute mouse position. Something similar could be used to map x/y eye coordinates to mouse position. -

Maybe due to the bubble overlay causing some delays in the render pipeline.- 23 replies

Is it possible to use Tobii head tracking for the camera AND the eye tracking to move the mouse cursor ? -

There is a "Download as mission.json" button which contains the waypoints in json format An upload function is planned. For now, it can load missions directly from DCS User Files, i.e. https://dcs-web-editor.github.io/dcs-web-viewer-deploy/?load=https%3A%2F%2Ffiles.digitalcombatsimulator.com%2Fuserfiles%2F95f%2F90t4yjdxqwx485v38n4ge8er7bk7m0z9%2FF16_RNLAF_ISIS_Base_160129_NoMods.miz&zoom=17&unitId=85 Use the "Load remote mission" button

Caucasus - Operation Steady Dagger.miz I have attached a mission. You can preview it in the browser and refer to a specific line of code, unit or group via link * It should jump to line 5486 in the mission script, once you open this link: https://dcs-web-editor.github.io/dcs-web-viewer-deploy/?load=https%3A%2F%2Fforum.dcs.world%2Fapplications%2Fcore%2Finterface%2Ffile%2Fattachment.php%3Fid%3D337523%26key%3Dab860a1797b8b2649de8ed4d7be36b47&line=5486 * It should jump to group 26 once you open this link: https://dcs-web-editor.github.io/dcs-web-viewer-deploy/?load=https%3A%2F%2Fforum.dcs.world%2Fapplications%2Fcore%2Finterface%2Ffile%2Fattachment.php%3Fid%3D337523%26key%3Dab860a1797b8b2649de8ed4d7be36b47&groupId=26 * It should jump to unit 126 once you open this link: https://dcs-web-editor.github.io/dcs-web-viewer-deploy/?load=https%3A%2F%2Fforum.dcs.world%2Fapplications%2Fcore%2Finterface%2Ffile%2Fattachment.php%3Fid%3D337523%26key%3Dab860a1797b8b2649de8ed4d7be36b47&unitId=126
