The only way I can think you could do that, is if you change your viewport, so that your cockpit X,Y doesn't equal 0,0. Move your X over, the number of pixels your MFD requires, but you're going to lose that entire viewing area from top to bottom (with a width of W=X), I don't think you can blank out just a square, it would have to be a top to bottom column. But then, I realize, that is definitely not the look you were going for, but, that's the only way I can see that it would work in that setup. (I'm sure if someone else has a better idea, they'll be along shortly to let ya know ).

Pretty sure I read somewhere that all the missiles are moving to a new API that's controlled by ED. So while HB can input all the parameters it wants to get all that nice tweaky-goodness, those missiles are still gonna get rinsed through ED's missile API, ergo, ED has the final say. At least, that's my understanding of the current situation.

I use both, never had any issue.

CMS: how to select Chaff or Flare to dispense
Despayre replied to cmbaviator's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Is that because you need countermeasures from radar-guided missiles way more often than from heat seekers? I've notice most ppl seem to think chaff is more useful than flares, but I'm not sure why that is... -
Sudden turbulence/wind exploding aircraft
Despayre replied to roobarbjapan's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Since day 1, my Tomcat has always exploded when I try to land on the boat (for various reasons, like someone stupidly making the back of the boat way too high!)... that's not normal? -
Most of those are pretty self-explanatory, and if you hover over the check-box it gives you a little mini-explanation too. Perhaps if the OP was a little more specific? (and yet, I gave it all a shot anyway, lol) But briefly, going down the columns... Gyro drift is real... requires INS resets occasionally, don't like that realism, turn it off here. Log engine data... no idea why I want that... uber-nerds only. Auto fuel detot... I believe combines the external tanks automatically on the total displayed on the dash, without having to do it manually (like they do in RL) R. freq repeater... in RL, you cannot see the channel of the... green?... radio, only the red one (or vice versa) on the dash, this changes that so you can, quite useful, but not realistic. Real VTB cone, other that being self-explanatory, I have not played with this, maybe someone else can elaborate Distinctive RWR feels pretty self-explanatory Randomize radar channel... I think this helps prevent cross-over with other M2000's radar if you're flying with a group Radar map objects... I believe that's like ships and trucks etc... requires more processing power (no idea how much more) show PCN missing digit, refers to the fact that the INS doesn't show the final LAT/LONG digit, but when you enter it, you'll get a msg onscreen showing the digits, incl the missing one Radio PTT short... feels self-explanatory, never used it, I think it has something to do with SRS/VOIP, but I'm not sure, and don't have any issues using SRS External tank refill fix... no idea... and the rest seem pretty straightforward, other than maybe the elastic limit options, and I'll let someone who can explain that better take a shot at those, but essentially they allow you to oversteer the plane beyond its recommended limits, briefly.

Should the M2KC be able to hold up against the Viper in a 2 circle fights?
Despayre replied to cmbaviator's topic in M-2000
Even with solid sources, like every other FM, it will be constantly argued by some who think they know better (usually because they saw a single Youtube video, or just feel they're better at math for some reason), as is evidenced by at least one thread for pretty much every plane forum... -
Do you mean button mapping, or the actual cockpit button? (I tested the button map to my HOTAS on the A, and it works fine). The actual button is under a rail on the right side, cannot be easily reached in game (or even seen, and also doesn't appear to be be modeled), better off to just use your binding. Also, Jester's got nothing else to do anyway.

Should the M2KC be able to hold up against the Viper in a 2 circle fights?
Despayre replied to cmbaviator's topic in M-2000
Ignore the experts and people that have actually flown the planes... and arrive and your own conclusions and then assert them as equally factual... sure, what could go wrong? On an unrelated note, I have a flat earth to sell you... -
Not a useful post, but I just wanna mention how friggin' cool that little touch is, and yet another reason to enjoy the Mirage!
-
Noticed it was moved too... and I have to say, that makes way more sense then allowing pause settings on a per module level, this is a game feature, not a flight model feature (although it would have been nice to mention this somewhere instead of having to go find it...).

Jester commands keyboard mapping, now VAICOM is dead
Despayre replied to Shiroka's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Just a direct link for those that need it... https://www.vaicompro.com/ -
Because it doesn't make sense to force changes for the majority, for a few who want something else. Especially when an existing solution is already available for those few that have issues with the size. You can delete those skins yourself. There is no problem here, and no one is "forcing" anyone to share any views on how cheap storage factually is.
-
First, oh no, once a month you have to delete some files... there's 4 seconds you'll never get back again!! Complete non-issue, even less of one if you take 1 minute to write a script/batch routine, to remove those files after every update... again/still, complete non-issue. Second, re: Aggressors, you honestly cannot think of a solution for that? Leave a couple liveries around for the Aggressors to use... OBVIOUSLY, also easily scripted/batched. These are not issues without solutions for those that need them. However, the vast majority, don't need them, so there's no need to inconvenience the many for the sake of a few, who already have these solutions, even if you choose not to use them.
-
So what. You CAN delete those 12GB of liveries on the server, and the player clients will all revert to default skins. No one loses, and for those playing online alone, I doubt most would even notice. It does NOT affect server performance in any way that I can see on my own server, whether I have those skins or not. Additionally, if you cannot afford 12GB of drive space in 2022 (total cost on a decent cloud server, about a buck per year), then maybe it's time to reconsider the effort of running a public server. Those numbers are only going to higher, whether the entire sim is optimized in the future, or not.
-
Yup, I noticed that too... a whole lot more assumptions went into that OPINION of the FM than into the ACTUAL FM I suspect... but of course, that's only my opinion. Also, the assumption that just because someone arrived at a different conclusion than someone else, does not engage the need to sound like a jerk and talk down to others while trying to explain high school level math, ie, "Now..., you don't know how to calculate a lift coefficient based on the lift formula?" Ya, I'm sure no one on the dev team has any idea how to do that math. I guess it just never occurred to them that they'd need that for a flight model on a jet aircraft ...

Current price of a 2TB internal SSD Drive: $100.00(ish) (USA prices, likely slightly higher elsewhere, ie, $120 here in Canada). Current price of the average DCS module: $75.00(ish). So, for the cost of less than 2 modules (which each take months to learn well, so spread that $100-120 cost over months since most ppl don't fly more than 1 plane primarily at a time), I can have world class drive performance, and room for every single map and plane (and skin [and all the core game files for regular AND open beta too]!) in DCS, and still have a drive that's more than 50% empty for future expansion. So, without singling out the Tomcat, there are a lot of skins around. Do I need them all? No. Do I have them all, including the mass of them in the downloadable user files? No (but lots!). Do I have the drive space to put them all in if I want to? Without question, and without additional cost. One drive purchase will easily outlive this PC and can be transferred to the next. There's no question about the value proposition here about this purchase. So from here, this seems like a non-issue based the cost/math and on several other points... First, DCS isn't, and never has been "a game", it's "a sim", and there are differences, two of which are detail and realism. Don't like that, try Star Citizen (according to them, 80GB + 10-20gb additional for pagefiles) or maybe something with less variety like Microsoft Flight Simulator X (according to them, 150GB required for 18 planes, btw DCS has 43 planes). No matter how you slice it, PC gaming isn't free. You only have to look in the forums to see the constant feature requests that make devs feel like they need to add more... all the time. Things I've seen, this week alone: "Thanks for adding the new missile types, can we add 2 more pylons so I can have one hard point for each of those missiles?" "Are we going to see a new version of the M2000?" (constantly) "Thanks for the Jester upgrades, can we get an entire scripting language for him quickly mocked up too?" etc, etc... point being, DCS is constantly advancing, and with many more planes coming online, it's only going to grow in size, assuming you want to try all the new planes. If you don't, then perhaps uninstalling the planes you don't use might be a free solution for you, with very little downside. If you ever decide you want that plane, you can have it back in a minute with a couple of clicks. I don't see a problem with that. Let's also keep in mind, that outside of livery and hard drive constraints, you're also dealing with some of the most expensive type of peripherals around... the latest Winwing HOTAS is over $1000.00 once delivered (to Canada). So, it's hard to look at an issue that is literally complaining over pennies, as a valid and legitimate complaint for the vast majority of users who are capable of having the required equipment to enjoy this sim. Now, having said all that, a livery manager would be very welcome news, cuz there's no denying, there's a lot of skins on my hard drive that I have never, and likely will never, use, and they're just unneeded, While that does seem like a waste, even if it's with drive space that would likely remain empty (either way, there's zero cost involved, since the drive space already exists for me), so ya, all those liveries might be a problem... but it's a problem without any real need for a remedy (good graphics have ALWAYS demanded a lot from PC's, going back to the late 80's, when the concept of "high end graphics" was very very different from today's), and therefore (as it should be) it's likely very far down the list of DCS complaints and priorities.... Ok, now that we're done with that, can we go back to arguing about if we can get the EFT's off of the new F-15EX or not?

DiCE: DCS Integrated Countermeasure Editor by Bailey (v6 MAY2023)
Despayre replied to Bailey's topic in DCS Modding
Check under your "Special" options, there's several individual settings that you can configure. -
see faq When will it be released? Hopefully soon
Despayre replied to huchanronaa's topic in DCS: Normandy 2.0
Everyone knows you can't do that based on a lucky guess. First, we have to attach rocks to him and throw him in the river. If he floats, THEN he's a witch and you can burn him. -
In the A, full AB takeoff, the moment I pitch up and I'm leaving the ground, it's flaps up, gear up (in that order, wheels can be out up to about 300 if they have to). You wait 5 more seconds, and ya, flaps stuck, no wing sweep... It's definitely quick, but it's not faster than you can react.

Someone should "bump" this.

Weird. I don't have those pedals, but I've never seen anyone else complain about that. Pretty sure that's not normal, but sorry I can't be more help, hopefully someone with those pedals can confirm they work for them, and then you just have to track down the problem...
