TWS with datalink ON - TMS RIGHT does not work
SickSidewinder9 replied to Keith Briscoe's topic in Bugs and Problems
Same. It feel like it has never worked as instructed. Little different. General more reliable as you cycle through hits, but not datalink boxes. Doesn't like to do that (yet?). I suck at air to air combat with the Hornet. IDK if it's just that the F-16 will always be my first love, or that the radar requires a bit more work so my head is in the cockpit more, or if the plane just straight up isn't as good. It's probably me. -
Where did this go?
-
Full upscaling, full sharpening. A tiny bit better, but almost too sharp. Screens and lamps still not as clear as before 2.9 null Maybe we need higher than 1024 for cockpit displays? Because it used to look this clear without zooming in. Now it feels like something is wrong with my eyes. null

I turned aa off, but turning on FSR sets TAA as on. All the way up to .9 and sharpening up to .66. It looks like a little better and the grass isn't shimmering, but it's still not great. Hard to see the waypoint number on the MPCD. It didn't used to be before 2.9. The flap/gear indicator should be clearer too. null

Thank you, I was hoping someone from the dev end would reply. I'll attach the config I have right now. I should also mention that it still doesn't look great without Nvidia Control Panel boosting the AA. It needs it in the external view. I remember grass shimmering being a thing in certain AA/other(?) configurations in Arma, but I can't remember what exactly did it and don't know if it would transfer. But there's definitely weird shimmering from grass, maybe water, and the antenna rotations make for odd shadows when sitting on the deck of the carrier in the parking spots between the island and the bow catapults. And again, stuff just looks better with extra AA turned on in Nvidia CP. I guess I could do a short video from with something (I honestly have no idea what) to show you what I mean. A lot of them compress though and then stuff gets lost. Maybe it's something I can fix with Reshade but the nice thing about getting a gaming monitor was how I didn't need that anymore. I already need to have Steam, OpenTrack, and SRS running before running DCS. Don't need to load yet another thing. Wouldn't a track file just replay on your PC in your settings? options.lua Nvidia settings: nullDSR doesn't help, btw.

All of this is out the window of course when that laggy Mig-21 starts out turning you

Issues after 2.9 release, help with settings
SickSidewinder9 replied to drz400dude's topic in 2D Video Bugs
The new gfx engine relies too much on upscaling and not enough on different kinds of AA. This is causing visual quality and sometimes performance trouble for those of us with older cards and/or not running in 4k. -

Ok, you have a point, but same Hazzard Lee video talks about the damage to his body and how bad it was doing 9G for more than 30 seconds. So you proved my point too: It's not a flight regime pilot and plane just hangout in.
-
it's not like they just fly around at 9G. It's incredibly hard on the body, the plane can't usually hold it unless it's very light, and your vision would probably be a very small tunnel at that point. Was watching that video with the MMA guy and the centrifuge and anything over 30 seconds is not good. capillaries break and stuff. That is the limit of human endurance. They aren't going to do 9G for more than a few seconds. Even if the test in the centrifuge is 30. After a few seconds at 7 or 8, it's probably pretty hard to keep it up. Disorientation and loss of consciousness become a real problem. And fatigue. They simply are not holding high G's for more than a few seconds each time.
-
Just flying around. It would appear that if you ease into it, you can go at least 8G with no tunneling. Which I think is true for the pilots in meat space too.
-
It does seem like the controls have some "damping" of a sort. This might equate to the slower response or G onset. Disappointed to see and notice at as soon as you hit 7G's it starts graying out again. I would imagine at 7G your vision does start to get narrow or blur, but again, the pilot of an F-16 shouldn't be blacking out as soon as you get to 8 or 9G. Ridiculous. 2.9 has been such a cluster. Nothing good has come from it for me except that the TGP animation looks right most of the time. Not all the time, but most of the time.

Switching between F10 map and back to cockpit lags hard and it seems particularly a Syria map thing.
-
I don't like it, but I guess I'll get used to it.

Ok, again for all the people who missed stuff skimming the thread: 1080ti, so no DLSS. Not using upscaling, it just makes stuff blurry. Literally no settings make the cockpit look like it did, only zooming in. There is something wrong with the AA. You can see it in the grass too, it does that shimmer thing. MSAA 4x and .1 sharpening is the best image quality I can get so far, EXCEPT THE COCKPITS LOOK LIKE <profanity>. I feel like I'm getting eye problems. Then back and neck problems from having to zoom in and squint. Had a nice ergonomic-ish setup with side stick on throttle on my chair arms. Didn't slouch. Seriously, 2.9 has been a huge let down. Little to know performance increase, can't get TDOA to work, datalinks are glitched or just messed up in older missions, F-16 TPOD animations still aren't quite right and the HMD is broken, and the part of the game I view the most, the cockpit, looks like trash. Oh and midair refueling is still weird. The great VOIP upgrade doesn't work at all. Great update, guys. I really want the F-4 module but I'm not buying anything till you guys get your act together. Also, lol at blocking profanity in a COMBAT flight sim. You should watch Apocalypse Now.

Also, what is with the yellow highlighting?
-
Yeah, the threat icons not moving when the plane maneuvers is very hard.
-
Any comment from the devs? Any of them test this with an older card and 1440p? Because stuff in the cockpit is literally illegible. And when zoomed in, it becomes smoother, as supposed to more jagged which would be a res issue? It should get smoother farther away. Pixels or something. No, adjust the LOD slider doesn't do it. I think it's the AA modes that you took out.
-
FSR also makes a soft "transition effect" kinda between MFD screen or lights coming on and off. Very unpleasant. Also, doesn't really do much for graphics and it doesn't really improve the cockpit. So that's nice.
-
I just get a nightmare buzzing sound when I try to test my mic or effects. I see the volume slider bouncing. So, unusable. It's not my setup because SRS works fine.
-
Thanks for the hotfixes. Maxed out FSR and Sharpening almost makes the cockpit text as legible as before, but it still isn't great. Tried to attach screenshot, but may not have worked. So FSR is effecting Print Screen?

It seems like it.

What do you want the most in DCS?
