Zero improvements in skylake-X from haswell and broadwell for gaming, even for multicore aware games: UIGGSxHpuoE Skylake X does overclock higher but then you have to tackle the monstrous heat output with very expensive cooling solutions. I dont think there are motherboards up to the task yet. those might come later. This is a poor showing for Intel. Im so glad I went R7 from my 2500K and didnt wait for these I9's. I would wait for Coffe lake, those promise more for gaming (6 cores 12 threads and a better suited L1/L2/L3 cache system). If you cant wait just go AMD (best CPU is 1600 right now) and use the savings to get a better graphics card.

wait for the 8700K I7 later this year, it will be faster than the 7820X for gaming and for less money. Currently the 7820X scores the same in games as the AMD R7, but the later costs half. Take your pick.

Honestly I would go Ryzen 1500 (4 cores/8 threads) on a B350 Motherboard and an RX 580 and forget about 4 thread I5 CPU's. In the long run it will be better than the I5, and youll be able to do cheap CPU upgrades. Intels platforms are dead at birth upgrade wise and are horribly overpriced right now.

The F-16 was short listed for future DCS titles in a staff post several years ago. They did say no promises, but work on the cockpit has actually started then and shared pictures with us. Ah man dont make me search for that post. Must have been like 7 years ago.

That 1800X came out lower than what other reviewers are getting in the benchmarks, my 1700X scores 159 on cinebench single thread with 3850Mhz clock for example, I have no idea why a 1800x capable of 4.1 Ghz XFR was as low as 155.

had read some pilot comments years ago that the F-35 performance was closer to the F-18 than the 16, now we know why. :)

Another change: replaced the original 2 NZXT fans with 4 corsair ML 140 pro's for push pull arrangement on the radiator. The NZXT ones make a high pitch sound when on high RPM, I found the corsair ones are more bearable (they are dead quiet at 800 RPM when not stressing the system on all cores). Temps went down 5 degrees. :)

You may want to get an I7 later (black friday after coffe lake is released). Theres another lesson to be had. 4 threads are no longer enough in the near future. The difference is noticeable now already. DCS or not regardless.

the original report states that it was a sidewinder, I saw no 9X specified. The 9M can indeed miss against the sun baked terrain in some circumstances, however another reason that might prompt a 120 launch is that the target was not sufficiently damaged by the sidewinder (there were similar accounts in the gulf war 9L's not doing enough damage and a sparrow launch followed to finish it off).

just checking the reviews for the 7900X and: those wanting multicore chips to play games should look elsewhere. It is equal or slower than broadwell-E (6900K) due to increased core communication latency (basically same as Ryzen) and that despite increased clock speeds. This results in same gaming experience as with Ryzen except with the later you can save alot of money and invest on a better graphics card. WOW it seems Intel just cant stop shooting themselves on their collective feet lately. My advice: wait for cofee lake or buy Ryzen right now.

I considered getting Skylake-X once but the fact AMD can out core Intel for the same price tag and at the same time offer a cheap CPU upgrade path for the future was a no brainer decision to go Ryzen. In my case it was all about mainstream platform but AMD should beat I9 series with threadripper as well (bad time to jump on the early I9 adopter bandwagon). Where single core score will probabbly be de same 5%-20% below Intel depending on applications the AMD side crushes intel with the sheer number of PCI-E lanes in its entire linup as opposed to the feature creep intel pushes on their customer base. Youll be able to negate the I9 performance advantage down the line with a cheap CPU upgrade.

4 threads are not enough anymore. this is why moving for an AMD 6 core feels snapier than I5's from intel even with a clock disavantage and all the memory latency quirks that Ryzen has. You can get a faster 6 core from intel but then you can get an AMD R7 8 core for less money. I go as far as recommending getting an I7 at the very least for DCS now, because even though DCS only needs 2, any background processes gearing up will easily have an impact on your experience. It only goes away when excess cores are present.
