  1. to follow up on the issue i had that in this thread i went on to explain, im still not 100% sure exactly the file or files that got corrupt, but after i renamed the dcs saved games folder, all my issues are gone even with combined arms.
  2. @Nahen im sorry if you took my comment as argumentative, i was conveying to you that there are other reasons to set your controls up other than how one manufacture did a half a century ago. Respectfully, People like ME
  3. @Nahen i cant speak for everyone, but the reason why i have have very few of the switches in the same place as the real life plane, is because i only have a joystick and no throttle. i bought a winwing f-16ex stick and with modifiers i have been able to map the throttle and the joystick to my one joystick. is it optimal probably not, but i have the muscle memory to change things when i need. here is an example of a reason to not have it exactly like real life, when flying the f-16 and f-18 i have some of the osd buttons bound to my stick to change what ever i need to in the moment instead of looking around to click switches in the cockpit, some examples are the osd buttons, so i can change the range of the radars, so instead of having to wait for the curser to run up the screen a time or two. or in the f-16 in dgft mode i have one of the left osd buttons bound to my stick so that way i can cycle through radar scan pattern with a click too. i also have the same switches bound to the same place with all of my planes that way i dont have to remember 10 different locations to select a missile or soi or spi. is this for everyone no, everyone has there own interest in how close to real life you want to be, or how do things work best for me for my particular situation. in my experience how good you are at flying in dcs has more to do with when and where you put the plane in that particular moment and not how you put the plane there.
  4. i have all my planes antenna elevations to a hat with a modifier, so i can personally attest that antenna elevations can work without issue with hat switches.
  5. im just taking a stab in the dark here, but maybe one of the reasons why the ai have been flying into the ground is because in dcs most trees are 300 to 400 ft tall. i routinely see ai flying in between trees, granted it makes for a good dog fight, if they dont crash.
  6. with all the fuel you lose when getting hit with even the smallest caliber arms got me thinking. dont all modern day fighter aircraft have self sealing fuel tanks? self sealing tanks have been around since ww2. i dont have any documentation of this but i though i would post this and see what the community can come up with. i did notice that i got hit the other day and only lost fuel in only one side of the fuel system, that is more better than losing it all with in a blink of an eye. so thank you ed for that much appreciated!
  7. I keep a pin and a note book Next to me. helps with CASE 3 recoveries to and other details that I will need to Know down the line. I call it my Kneeboard.
  8. you saying really far and to close do nothing to help your cause, it would be more better for you to get actual measurements of distances and best to post a track file. that way we can see what is really going on.
  9. @Murphyjmm there are other settings that you can bind to what ever your using to look around. on the page that you can bind controls, if you select view in the drop down menu it will show you all of them. one group of them is slower than the original keybinds. i use the mouse to look around, i tried head tracking and i didn't like it one bit. i also binded the ralt +c(the keybind- force cursor to show)to my mouse which allows me to zoom in and out and look all around with the mouse and with a click of a button it will put you in the mode to click switches.
  10. thank you for the response.
  11. i also use the hit the Waypoint Designate (WPDSG) button to fly to waypoints when i am in an unfamiliar area or in bad weather or at night. i can see the waypoint easier with the hud and hmd. the easiest way for me to find targets on the move is using the the surface radar in GMT mode. when you have a brick you can press Sensor Control Switch right when the cursor is over the brick and it will lock on to the moving target and point the tgp at it. I then use the tgp to find exactly the spot you need to aim at. i use the TGP on the bottom mfd display the Advanced Multipurpose Color Display (AMPCD), i find it gives me a picture that i can easily use. to infinity and beyond!
  12. @Rudel_chwthat is what i am asking, is any .png placed into a kneeboard folder in the saved games>dcs.openbeta considered a unofficial mod? But what i should really be asking is there anyway a ,png could mess up dcs? the reason why i am asking this is that i recently bought combined arms and now the loading screen into dcs takes at least 5to10 minutes to load. when i go into mission editor or instant game it takes up to 5 minutes in-between loading screens. also dcs randomly goes unresponsive but if i wait long enough it will come back. once i get into a game it seams to run sorta okay, meaning that my frame rate gets cut by 2/3rds. after a day of trying different things, i did the long repair after i took out sound packs, liveries and other files and it still persisted. once i deleted combined arms everything went back to normal. a couple days later i realized i that i forgot to take out the kneeboard folder. and i was reading the "have problems ? read this " post and it said something about unofficial mods, and it got me thinking. since i dont know anything about code, i figured i would ask about kneeboards and come to a conclusion if i want to try to mess with combined arms again.
  13. are player added kneeboard imagines considered unofficial mods?
  14. the same error also happens in the f/a-18 operation pontus campaign when the ai kills targets with slamER
  15. i have the same issue when the AI kills targets using slamER in the operation pontus campaign i have noticed it. except we are in f/a-18's
  16. hello there, i have been having fun learning how to operate in this campaign. i have a tiny issue and i dont know what is causing this, and was hoping to get some help. when my flights of ai shack a ground target with a SlamEr and i think it happends with slam too i get this message that pops up and the whole screen is paused. once i hit the enter key everything goes back to normal. in the campaign is there bluefor ground troops?
  17. i find that a impact angle of 90 degrees with a ground fuse causes the most damage. i have also found that releasing JDAMS a couple miles after max range helps the bomb land with more kinematic energy since it doesnt have to fly horizontally as far. what i did would be after releasing the bomb i paused the plane and watched the bomb, that will tell you a lot about what the bomb is doing.
  18. recently while tracking ground targets the flir will take off on something invisible. here are some tracks. it does happen while the targets are driving on the road. one other question, after you attack a convoy and the targets disperses, while waiting to get back on the road again, are their ir signatures supposed to cool off? tgp.on.its.own.trk tgp.on.its.own.2.trk tgp.on.its.own.3.trk tgp. tracking. ghost..trk
  19. just a couple more kamikaze Ai. the interesting parts will be at the end of the track. ai.crashing.ground.again.1.bvr.trk ai.crashing.ground.again.2.bvr.trk ai.crashing.ground.again.3.bvr.trk ai.crashing.ground.again.4.bvr.trk ai.crashing.ground.again.5.bvr.trk
  20. in this video this F-16A pilot says they never had sparrows because politically with something f-15 Do Something. @SkateZilla I would love to see the documentation, that says they did
  21. i have notice a couple of updates ago that a lot of the bandits aircraft would go missing, the other day with in a short period of time they started dropping repeatedly. these were just 1v1 scenarios, i had noticed things happening in bigger scenarios but its alot harder to pin point the issue and i saw them fly into the ground in two of these tracks, here are a couple of tracks. ai.crashing.ground.trk ai.crashing.ground.2.trk ai.crashing.ground.3.bvr.trk
  22. i have the same experience except i bought the hornet. they are very different planes and they both have abilities that they are awesome at! Ps be very stingy with the afterburner or you will find yourself bingo real quick. on the plus side with altitude and 200 knots you can go amazingly far!
  23. @=617= Evil thank you for the time you took to post, one thing i found strange is when both of the first gbu's hit it gave the ship 21% damage total, where when each of the second volley of gbu's hit they each gave 21% damage each. i dont currently have time to try your mission but i will try it out when i get time. thank you looking more into the gbu-24 i had the expectation that it should work like every other lgb, not all weapons work the same way. i have read that in the dcs gbu24 has or will have an autopilot? is it implemented in dcs yet? what does it do? what will it do?
  24. to complain about such subjects you need to have an understanding of the EM diagrams of the airplane you are talking about, not just a feeling. its all about how many g's you can pull, at what speed. the fa-18c having the limiter on how many g's it will let you pull, it makes perfect sense that once you get above the curve you wont be able to slow down the train with out getting out of burner. you dont realize how powerful the military fighter jets are sitting in front of a screen. @oldcrusty do the same exact thing that you did in the video except this time when you are full aft pitch, depress the paddle switch which is the nws/autopilot disengage switch.
  25. when i try to drop the gbu24 with the stock setting the bomb is released way to early and even if i hold the laser the whole time it still comes up miles from the target. the only way i can make it hit where i want, is i drop it half way in between min and max ranges and hold the laser the whole time of flight. the thing that throws me off is when i drop a gbu-12 in ccrp everything goes perfectly and the auto lase works perfect every time, the first bomb drop in the track is a gbu12, to demonstrate that things work, then the next drops are the gbu24 different ways until the last couple where i drop them the only way i know how to put the round on target. any help is greatly appreciated. what is the cue range for? is there a table some where that we can cross reference speeds vs altitudes. i figured out that dropping at 20k at 400 to 500knots 8 miles out seems to work as long as i use the laser through out the flight, to keep bomb on course. f16.gbu24..trk
