  1. Nobody knows until those chips are released and tested by independent reviewers. Don't buy into the "official" hype from Intel and AMD. Avoid the 14900. Expensive, runs too hot, draws too much power and has a remarkable tendency to kill itself. If you can, wait until next year. AMD is launching new chips and, in a couple of months, we should have the full picture to make the best decision. I'm on the same boat, as my 10400 is showing its age.
  2. "VR" and "plug and play" don't belong in the same sentence. If you don't have the patience to tweak, test, search, and tweak again for several days after you put everything together, VR is not for you. Once you find your right balance between eyecandy and performance, it all becomes much easier. I'm going to paint a more optimistic picture than LucShep about hardware requirements. You can totally play VR with a modest PC, with compromises, of course. Forget about cranking everything to the max or playing missions with hundreds of units with a 3060ti like the one I have (with a Quest 3 and a 10400), but with mid settings, it's pretty enjoyable. You're going to need 64GB of RAM tho, that's non negotiable. Whatever you choose, keep your rig and your VR headset balanced. A 4090 is totally wasted on a Quest 2, for example. Inversely, don't buy a Pimax 8K and pair it with a 3060ti.
  3. For me, the "world map" is uncontested as #1 at DCS vaporware award contest.
  4. Patch notes look promising: a lot of fixes. Testing night I guess? Thank you.
  5. Have you tried excluding DCS main folder and saved games folder from your AV?
  6. Take all the time you need to make things right. Last patches have been definitely on the disappointing side.
  7. This is sad news, as it is a fantastic mod.
  8. I've tried settings for a month and messing with encode bitrate, bitrate max, encode resolution, etc, only made things worse. How are the results if you leave everything at default?
  9. Option 1. Wifi doesn't reach the same visual quality, you notice it on the little details. Perfectly usable, but just not the same. Virtual Desktop is slowly improving but still behind cabled connection.
  10. I read somewhere that the file extensions used for map textures are different than the ones this mod operates with. Take this with several grains of salt.
  11. This. Try disabling the power service and the reduced textures mod just to be sure. But all things point to your hardware.
  12. VR will never look as good as 2D. You're giving up visual quality in exchange for immersion.
  13. No. They will only "exist" from the version they were launched onwards. I'm in the same boat, as I went back to 2.9.2. It pains me not being able to fly the Phantom, but this version just runs so much better.
  14. Before the script: 351GB DCS folder. After the script: 314GB DCS folder. And I don't even own some of the heaviest modules like the Apache, or have the newest ones like the Phantom or the CH-47 (I'm running version 2.9.2). Amazing.
  15. I've updated to the 2.7 version from two years ago last night.
  16. I'm not at home so I can't provide links, but you can use Skatezillas's Updater Tool. Point it to your main and saved games DCS folders. On the top "Advanced Updater Options" tab, or something like that. On the left there's a button "Update to a specific version". Put there the branch and version you want. In your case RELEASE and 2.9.5.55981 (on the right there's a link to a forum post with all supported old versions). Press button. Enjoy.
  17. This is amazing. Thank you.
  18. Wow. This is pathetic on ED's end. We reported this after the first unified version. And it seems it got worse. Way worse. I've parked DCS for the time being as I can't even run my own missions, which is absurd. The very same missions I could run no problem in the last open beta. Playing a Retribution or Liberation campaign is a distant dream by now. It's really sad because buried under all these bugs there is an amazing game trying to shine.
  19. In my VERY LIMITED personal experience, no. Hand tracking and headset tracking is the same, or slightly worse in the Quest 3. It might be affected by my particular environment and room lightning, but I find the Quest 2 tracking more solid, but not by much. Probably the Quest 3 will improve this aspect in upcoming patches. Again, this is just my perception.
  20. How about a 4070ti Super? Cheaper than a 4080, 16GB VRAM, decent performance, enough for VR if you don't go nuts with the settings.
  21. Yeah. Too expensive for now. Maybe it will make more sense in a year when the 5xxx line is already released.
  22. Why not a 4070ti Super? Those 16GB of VRAM look juicy. It will be more expensive though.
