  1. Playing my own track back, it appears to be fixed. And I haven't seen it in the wild for weeks. Weird.
  2. I ordered those precision rings too, as I doubt ED will ever be able understand the simple concept of taming the Mav slew speed so it's more in-line with the other slews.
  3. Can confirm. This bug is a major bummer and happens intermittently --TDOA is an amazing capability that feels like a dice roll. When it occurs, it renders the HAD useless and the only way to restore functionality is to get a new jet.
  4. Hiya, thanks for the reply Baltic Dragon! OK on the lights, that's unfortunate and ED should fix it. it can't be that hard. It's an immersion killer to have wingmen's tailfins lit up at night when we're fenced-in, and then stay "lights half-on" all the way back to homeplate and hangars. I'm just being nitpicky on the typos. The fact is, there is a TON of text and dialogue in the campaign, which I completely love in a good campaign. Voice acting was superb and immersive, loved those moments hearing Uniform and Victor both babbling over each other like in real-life. Very immersive. I just finished the Gambler's campaign this morning, and I give it Immersive as it gets, fun missions, a good and varied test of various Viper skills, and no bugs happened to me. The input overlay for acknowledging calls and stuff is genius, wasn't often I had to feel my way around my keyboard in VR. Worth every cent, please make more for the F-16 and take my moneh!
  5. When fencing-in, other ships in my flight leave their vertical stab/tail light on -- they don't go full dark. And when fencing-out, they don't turn their position lights (red/green) on, just the beacon. Also, it'd be cool if they set their flasher # the same as their slot #, instead of just continuous flash. Fantastic campaign. Abundant typos in the briefing docs and in-game text messages, but who cares -- I'm not gonna take time to itemize them. The audio/voices are correct.
  6. I'm seeing this in just about any Single-player mission I do -- Instant action, campaigns, missions. AI Viper wingmen will appear to engage afterburner; the graphics and sound for it come on at random times and stay on for variable lengths of time, but his jet is not actually producing A/B thrust. I've attached a short track file from one that's readily reproducible on my system: Instant Action -> Caucasus -> Free Flight. One can see that it looks and sounds like -3 engages his A/B while I follow him, yet I'm able to catch-up and begin to overtake him on buster power alone, as if he's actually thrusting at about 85% power despite looking and sounding like he's stage 3 A/B. (I do not engage A/B at all in this clip). F16 fake burner.trk
  7. Same here on Quest3 VR. I can hit V all day, and bound Jester Context UI to a button on HOTAS as well, but the menu is never to be seen when I click them. When Jester asks to start alignment, I can see the question at the bottom of HUD and found that I can use the hotkey to "Start alignment" -- he acknowledges, but then he asks what type of alignment I want. All I can see is the question dialogue on screen, at the bottom of the HUD, but not the selections themselves. He never actually starts the alignment, just waits for me to tell him what type. Can't find a hotkey for that. UPDATE: figured it out I use a DCS resolution setting of 1280x768 (the smallest choice in the System menu) for VR performance. In the Special menu, I changed the HB Jester resolution over-ride the exact same 1280x768, now both the UI and Context menus display properly.
  8. You don't have to use a curve on it. Look in the SPECIAL tab config page for the F4, there is a slider to set the AB detent position. For my Warthog, a setting of 74 is on the money.
  9. Surely lots of people know this one, it's clutch: press/hold the EXPAND/FOV button (I think it's called that -- it's the pinky button on the stick) in any mode with HSD up but not SOI, and it zooms-in around your plane on the HSD. I use it pretty constantly to keep track of my flight's positions in a grinder or when the HSD is cluttered. It's also lightyears easier to put a PDLT on a plane with HSD as SOI and click the button twice for max zoom. I used to never touch that button, now I'm wearing it out. Kudos to @HateDread for this thread. I had no idea about using Cursor Enable to get the AIM-9x seeker in bore mode on the HMCS, that is PURE GOLD. No more reaching for the mouse to switch to BORE mode! This saves at least 3 precious seconds in a merge, LOVE IT.
  10. Me -- so picky, ADD, and easily bored that I rarely, if ever, "finish" a game, campaign, or accomplish stated goals before I find some excuse to move on to the next shiny object. This campaign -- today at lunch I finished the campaign for the second time, and I intend to do it all again. This is not like me, but the campaign is that enjoyable. @ChillNG I am 100% in for FIWOS 2. If I were to request anything, maybe a bit more A2A action to spice it up. My final score this last playthrough was 41 ground kills, 1 Air. I get it, the literal name of the campaign is Weaseling, and on this it delivers, but also having the opportunity to make Ace during the next campaign would be perfect
  11. One thing that really helps everything come in to focus is getting MFD pages, in all modes, setup the same way on every start up. I switch to each mode, say for example A/G, and load all three pages on both MFD's that I will use. So for A/G mode, Left MFD pages on the bottom I set as TGP - FCR - HAD, Right MFD is SMS - WPN - HSD. Then get good with DMS switch Right and Left to cycle through pages on each MFD, and there's just a lot less mousing and loading of pages in the heat of it. I do the same for every mode, MSL, DGFT, NAV. I like to set the A/A modes with TGP as the second page on Left, just a quick DMS-left and TGP is looking right at whatever I've got locked on the FCR, for example. All of this is done before I taxi. I know that doesn't exactly address A/G mode workflow to put bombs on target, but having the MFD's fully prepared for the A/G workflow, and switching between them with a quick DMS L/R, makes it feel a lot simpler. To me, anyways.
  12. This campaign is amazing, one of the best in DCS, and definitely THE campaign to have for any Viper fan. The briefing materials, voice acting, and player choices are superb. This is one I'll play several times. @ChillNG make more please!
  13. I've logged hundreds of DCS Viper hours, and I do believe in my heart and soul that in 2.9 she flies better and retains energy a smidge better at higher AoA and altitudes. Just flies gooder. Me shoot amraam
  14. My favorite part of the video is when Jester complains about flying too low, and the pilot ejects him. lol
  15. Back in the old days with a 5400 rpm HDD, I was able to launch the sim and then prepare dinner and feed it to my kids before the menu screen came up. It was excellent for sim/life balance. Then it got faster...wayyyy faster especially with M2 Nvme, until it was all I could do to microwave hot dogs and shove them at the kids before the menu was ready and I was called to action. Recently, I've noticed that load times are inexplicably increasing every time I launch the sim, even to the wait of 5400 rpm HDDs. Thank you so much. Today I double-clicked DCS, and then I made -- from scratch -- a Bolognese sauce with charred garlic cloves, served it, and did the dishes all before the sim was ready at the menu screen, perfectly right on time. Please make these loading times skyrocket, so I can get more things done.
  16. I watched Thunderbird Falcons fly knife edge passes a good 1/3 of the runway at multiple airshows as a kid. Is this the Mandela Effect? Edit: Doubtful on mandala. Seems the Tbirds do knife edge to at least some extent. There's a table in this pdf with the High Low Flat maneuver packages, definitely includes knife edge: https://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/airshow/media/military/Thunderbirds_Maneuvers_Package.pdf
  17. PRF tones will be great. Until then, my butt puckers for 15 seconds at a time. Some cultures regard this as healthy exercise, so I'm sorta ok with it.
  18. Just got a question that prompted me to clarify something with my settings. They are my "gold" settings for best performance in Multiplayer in big pubs like Growling. I can enable most everything and go sliders full right in SP, and only if the mission has a reasonably smallish number of units and chaos. For me, performance > eye candy every day of the week, so I knock off the frills and slide left on the resolution sliders and MP runs fast and smooth as I've ever seen it go for me.
  19. edit: I don't know why it chopped out all of my text/explanations. Whatever, here are my golden settings EDIT: I have since changed the Oculus graphics preference immediately above to 4704x2384 (1.4x). Much more performance headroom, slight loss in image quality. Works a lot better in MP.
  20. I retract my blame of shadows. They are CPU-expensive, though, and if one is riding the edge of CPU-bound shadows will do it in. I ran metrics/tests and found that while things hummed along well for the most part, the CPU headroom was always pretty low, like 8% (this is in OXR Toolkit) while GPU has 35-40%. When distant objects came into view range, I'd get chop and the red CPU bound warning flashing. In particular, those oil towers in Mi24-P / Instant Action / Caucasus / Weapons Range are a beyatch. Not to mention that I'm purposely testing with rotorcraft too. Adding shadows at any point or any level made the whole thing into chop suey. My CPU is a beast, it shouldn't be lagging, I was perplexed. I dug through the BIOS settings thinking I needed to turn off one or more of the Intel CPU management features -- but I found to my surprise that CPU Power management was entirely disabled, and thus my CPU was never leaving its base clock speed of 3.0Ghz. I enabled it, ran some benchmarks and now the CPU would run 4.5Ghz. Launched back into DCS and now have a completely awesome experience in VR, shadows on Medium like I like em. I can also run missions from the P47D Wolfpack campaign that I never could before, so many units. I guess the moral of the story is take good measurements and figure out if it's the graphics side or the app/cpu side that is not keeping up. And of course, make sure there's nothing wrong with the system to begin with like in my case.
  21. Thank you!! It moves down and shrinks just enough to be where I had in mind.
  22. Both are off, but I haven't tried terrain shadows on in a while. Will do that, I'm curious
  23. Thanks for bumping this! I tried it last night and it made a huge difference. I could never get ASW at 45Hz to work right... lots of ghosting as it failed to keep up. But ASW 30Hz worked great at Oculus 72Hz. I capped the card at 45 frames like you said, set OTT to ASW 45Hz, switched Oculus to 90Hz, slider maxed --- DAAAAAAAANG it freaking works. Smooth as silk at 45 frames with ASW working perfectly -- in fact I've never seen zero ghosting before, it's amazing. GPU hums along with plenty of headroom on metrics. thank you thank you thank you @13sq*Axe Now if only shadows worked. I was really hoping that now they would work, but nope. They destroy everything, 22fps and choppy as hell.
  24. Thank you for the idea. I hadn't tried shadows on "high" since even Flat/Low gave me trouble. Unfortunately, high shadows is a real killer... from a solid 45fps to barely 22. Shadows are simply broken. No other single setting in DCS can nuke my pc like that one can, the only option I have to get smooth performance in any configuration I've tried (a crap-ton) is to turn them completely off. Then the rest of it is smooth as butter. (edit) I should clarify that I did the graphics.lua hack above to see if maybe distant objects were getting shadows drawn, but it seems not. But I did find that with my object distance set to 60000 (medium visibility) that my CPU overhead increased about 5% baseline. So I'm keeping that setting.
