  1. It's a 2.9 versiom issue. I am in the same boat as you.
  2. It has to do something with the ground units! Either static or moveable, or both. I deliberately flew of the map on Caucasus and there was almost no freezing of the sim.
  3. I am having the same issues - there's something wrong with 2.9 version.
  4. I just quickly sifted through the log file: there are quite a few errors only from October the 30th. Is this normal?
  5. Very simple formula: ED does not want to create any more FC3-type a/c (non full fidelity) + Russian laws prohibit creating FF aircraft* * but Ka-50, Mi-8 and Mi-24 are somehow ok
  6. Description Freezing Since 2.9 DCS is randomly freezing for a second or two. This happens both in cockpit/external view as well as in the map (F10) view. When the freezing occurs, DCS cannot be interacted with, i.e. no buttons or UI can be clicked (loading weapons, configuration panel, ATC, etc.) and of course no cockpit interaction either. The frequency of the freezing seems to be random, that is there is no recognizable pattern. Important: I am not having issues with the frame rates - between freezes the simulator runs fine, between 80-110 FPS. In multiplayer environment it seems to happen randomly, since it may or may not happen on the same server with almost identical variables - joining a server and the re-joining after a minute or two. It does not seem to be cloud-dependent as I might have heavy freezing with no clouds, and not so much with clouds present, for example. It single player, it seems to happen consistently in JF-17: Air to Air Refueling (Day) instant-action mission. Interestingly when the freeze occurs, the GPU usage goes down from regular 80% to 0% only to rise back up again once the sim recovers and just before the next occurrence. Task manager just before the freeze: Task manager just after the freeze: Textures not Loading When joining multiplayer, sometimes the textures fail to load (longer than 20 minutes). I could be sitting on the apron being able to see the sea water where land should be and of course no cockpit textures. It does not depend on the server, for example disconnecting and joining back again does not fix the issue. However, closing DCS and re-staring it again does fix the issue as the textures do load eventually, albeit quite slow (2-5 minutes). While the textures are missing or failing to be loaded, there seems to be very low disk usage (around 1MB/s). Once the textures start loading the disk usage jumps couple of times. In my case between 8-12MB/s. Task manages when textures are loading: When the textures are loading, they do in a very slow manner where very low resolution ones are loaded first (blurry) followed by higher resolution ones. Hardware/Software CPU: i5-4690K @ 4.1GHz (stock 3.5GHz) - water cooled GPU: GTX 1660 Super 6GB RAM: 32GB DDR - 4 x 8GB Kingston Value Select @ 1600Mhz, C11 MoBo: Asus Z-97 Gamer Pro HDD: Samsung Evo SSD 1TB Windows 10 Pro (latest) no mods, stock DCS trackIR v5 Additional information DCS Log file dcs.log After updating, I have: cleared the shaders folder cleaned up and did slow repair using the Updater utility disabled TacView There is no AntiVirus interfering with DCS. Notes: This is definitely NOT a faulty hardware issue, since the same settings work perfectly on version 2.8. Same issues happen on both single-threaded and multi-threaded versions.
  7. Don't worry, you are not alone. My DCS is also unplayable after 2.9, with same symptoms.
  8. Thanks for your answers. The current cost is around 200 Euros, so I guess with the today's pricing it would not really be a good investment. The CPU was bought in 2014, but the paste is definitely not that old I don't plan on replacing my machine any time soon, so I was contemplating on giving it one last upgrade with the CPU. Everything else is pretty much maxed out, when it comes to upgrades.
  9. In context of DCS, would it be worth upgrading from i5-4690K (stock 3.5GHz; clocked to 4.1GHz) to i7-4790K (stock 4.0GHz; can go up to 4.4GHz)? Both are 4th gen and quad code, with i7 having 8 threads, as opposed to i5 which has 4. Thank you in advance.
  10. For me on Windows 10, this made no difference.
  11. Had a go last night in MP (ST) and it worked quite ok with some very rare occasional stutter. In JF-17 quick mission for a2a refueling, the stutter is horrible, and the only aparent difference are clouds with the latter having tons of them. Everything else is more-less the same - a/c, map, etc. Edit: Has nothing to do with clouds. Same server with Ka-50 and the stutter is very heavy.
  12. I can confirm that this issue is fixed for multiplayer on single-threaded version: the pod does not jump any more but shakes just a little moments before impact, which is a huge improvement.
  13. I am starting to thing it might be cloud related. Just flew an online server with moderate clouds and it worked ok - very few stutters. In A2A refueling quick mission on Caucasus map for JF-17, however the stutter is quite bad - needless to say that there are tons of clouds there.
  14. Please don't quote me on this one, but I somehow believe that my stutter has something to do with texture loading. It increases in intensity if I zoom in or switch to external view. Happens both on multi-thread and single-thread.
  15. I am also having horrible stuttering issues after the 2.9 update. DCS used to be butter-smooth with 60-70fps, but now with exactly the same hardware I have horrible jagged edges (not a huge problem) and intense periodic stutter that freezes the sim for short periods of time.
  16. This is what happens when community pushes for something they feel should be correct. No offense, but these look like "Independence Day" alien mother ships.
  17. I am also very interested in the mechanics of it. MiG-29, for example also has it's engines RPM limited at altitude and it has intake ramps.
  18. Is this still relevant?
  19. If I understood you correctly, if max AOA of some imaginary airfoil is 18 deg. and it produces X amount of lift, with flaps down the max AOA would be, let's say, 16deg with Y amount of lift, where Y is greater than X? Did I get this right?
  20. I find it sometimes easier to ram someone than to put my piper on 'em.
  21. Flaps give you mora alpha (angle of attack) at a cost of more drag (slower airspeed), so if your goal is to do just that, then flaps will help. I can think of one-circle fight, here.
  22. What I meant to ask is: is there anything different in 21's radar signature that would allow the RWR to detect a launch.
  23. I am not 100% sure, but does anything happen at launch that would allow the RWR to detect it?
  24. The developers don't have performance data with CFTs off.
