Going to do this (VR) - appreciate help...
Keith Briscoe replied to Keith Briscoe's topic in Virtual Reality
Well,,,, first of all, thanks to the responses. Second.... holy hell!!! I got this up and running and I'm blown away. If this is scraping the bottom of the barrel, I can't imagine what you all are seeing with higher spec. Sure, I've only done some instant action and basic SP missions, but so far I cannot believe how well it's working. Is that a first for a new VR, mid-to-"lower" spec player?? To be honest, this has basically just cemented that I'll pony up for even more horsepower. Time to give my eyes and head a break! -
Do I understand correctly that if I were to buy a pre-built C today, it would come with win11 and almost certainly be updated to the point that there is no WMR? Then, only option to use g2 would be to do a clean install of win10... but then risk hardware issues that may want/expect to see win11? Thanks for any input.

Going to do this (VR) - appreciate help...
Keith Briscoe replied to Keith Briscoe's topic in Virtual Reality
Thank you both. First off, I'm all set with HOTAS and I'm currently on Win10 - so all good there. I notice you did not call out SteamVR (nor did @Chief_Biv).. Can I therefore assume I do not need to use/access SteamVR... but instead only need the OpenXR pieces of sw to get started? Then, perhaps use the quad views app/sw after I get some baseline settings and reasonable experience? Maybe all the videos are a bit dated, but it seems I've most seen the reference of SteamVR when it comes to the Reverb G2 (and I understand that I can add my stand-alone DCS to Steam if that's what I'm required to do). Is it just that OpenXR and SteamVR ultimately do the same types of things so you only need one?? This is where I really lose the plot.... -
New old guy struggling with SA and visual target acquisition

For anyone looking for coaching/mentoring... I can highly recommend Tactical DCS discord community. I'm happy to share my experience and help you get connected. Keith "Lefty" -
F16. Learn everything it can do. Get good with it. Then decide if you want or need another. It will give you a lot of joy and you can up to speed (pun intended) very quickly.

Here's my situation... firstly, I've been doing a bunch of research on forums/reading/videos, etc. - so I'm trying to get educated and prepared. My plan (most likely) is to dip my toe in the VR waters by purchasing a used [edit: just agreed to buy a used Reverb G2 v2... not Quest 2] and try to get set up with my current system: i7 9700k, 32g ram, 2080ti, 2x m2 drives. My goals are: 1) see if I can get the needed HW and SW set up and working; 2) discover whether I can physically stand/get used to the VR environment - I'll do my best to not just start doing yee-haw barrel rolls; 3) determine whether the immersion warrants further investment in both PC and headset(s). So... here's where I'd like help: I hope it's not just me, but for all the reading and video watching I've done, I cannot figure out what HW or SW I need to / should start with. Strike this... Specifically: do I need an extra battery pack? do I need a "link"/usb cable? do I use OpenXR or Oculus Debug or Tray Tool or SteamVR??... [edit: do I just use both steamVR and WMR, or do I also do openXR?] I realize there are a lot of variables and a lot of personal preferences for optimization - and I'm confident I'll figure those out over time if I stick with VR. But, would really appreciate and reasonably straight-forward starting point given my PC specs and goals. Thanks in advance.

Is this an F-16 BUG, or am I doing something wrong?
Keith Briscoe replied to RTS354's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Same, same and same. Misery loves company. I now have enough experience with F16 and DCS to realize it's not just me. -
Mission 1 unable to toss

So what is the more correct altitude setting for the clusters in this mission? Thx. -
Thank you both.

Hi. Anyone have the dimensions of the new T-Rudder V? Most important is max width. Also want to know max "length" from front to back when one pedal is at max back travel. EDIT: actually it looks like the pedal travel is mainly a pushing "down", so perhaps they don't get "longer" when depressed". My reference is my current set of Thustmaster cheapies. Thank you!!

Is it just me or is Quest 3 complete crap?
Keith Briscoe replied to killerquagmire's topic in Virtual Reality
Please let me know when VR is plug and play! I think I'll be interested then. -
Confirmed here too. Best most versatile combo, especially if you opt for 16ex piece for stick as well, but not needed.

Help pls... cannot start a hosted server
Keith Briscoe replied to Keith Briscoe's topic in Multiplayer
going to check this stuff now thx -
Hi! I'm hoping to "start a server" / host for some small group co-op. I've done the port forwarding for my router: used 10308 in both tcp and udp. I've added the inbound and outbound rules in Windows Defender Firewall. Friend still sees "server offline" when trying to join. Any tips / tricks / things to check that I may have overlooked? Thank you.

Suggestions for co-op missions?
Keith Briscoe replied to Keith Briscoe's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I was thinking more about planned missions, but the sandbox shooting range seems fun too (haven't done that yet). I'll take any suggestions. Thanks. -
I'm going to try to host a private server for 1 other friend so we can do some co-op stuff. Any suggestions on Missions that are set for 2+ f16s? Thank you. Keith

Does this support / allow co-op if I were to host a private server? thx.

2 player options!!!??? I literally just came back to this post to ask about this.. So cool. Any idea of timing to do that? I don't have any experience with the Mission Editor and I guess I was hoping to avoid having to editing your current missions (if that's even possible) I use your Viper Proficiency missions SOOOO much. Thank you again.

Probable F-4E Social Media Backlash
Keith Briscoe replied to Kalasnkova74's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
As a sim racer turned sim flyer... I WISH we could get better access to force feedback peripherals for flying. If there was another Pandemic, I'll bet that would help.... no, I don't really want another pandemic. But, I think this played a big part of the sim racing boom, and associated driving peripherals and manufacturers. Direct Drive wheel bases had been a thing even 20 (?) years ago, but it was for the elite, very expensive and not easy to get. After 2020, we saw the number of options probably quadruple or more (Fanatec, Accuforce, SimMagic, Moza, and I think now the Consumer companies like Logitech and Thrustmaster have options too). FF in racing is a game changer. I think it would be in flying too. Oh well, I can only hope. -
Looking to do simple Server to host Coop w/ a Friend
Keith Briscoe replied to Keith Briscoe's topic in Multiplayer
By the way, when I create the Inbound Rule in the Firewall, should I do this for "Program" or for "Port". Believe it is Port (that's what I used), but just want to check. Hoping to have a friend help me test today if this worked. Thanks! -
Looking to do simple Server to host Coop w/ a Friend
Keith Briscoe replied to Keith Briscoe's topic in Multiplayer
Thank you. Ok, so I do or don't have to set either / both Inbound Rule and Outbound Rule in Windows Defender? -
Hi all. I've been searching the forum and YT... finding bits and pieces but just wonder if there's an all-in-one answer somewhere (fingers crossed). I'd like to use my PC as the host so a friend and I can do some coop missions (found on ED user files). I understand the basic steps from the DCS Multiplayer screen, but it seems there are additional steps required outside of DCS (Windows, Firewall, Router, etc.). Appreciate any help here. I'm not a SW or HW or IT Admin, so please don't assume I know what / where stuff is. But, I'm willing and able to learn. Thanks!!
