  1. When I went from a CV1 to a Reverb G1, I was going from having the DCS PD set to 2.0 for the CV1 to having DCS PD set to 1.0 for the Reverb G1. I actually ended up getting better performance on the Reverb, and the image quality was leaps and bounds beyond anything the CV1 could ever dream of producing. Can't remember exactly what I used to set my SteamVR SS to, because the relationship between that and render resolution was constantly changing, but I think in the beginning, 50% showed roughly native resolution for the G1. The picture was massively better than a CV1. But, if you're like me, you won't really appreciate the improvement when going to the Reverb until you fly in the Reverb for a little while, and then go back to the CV1 once. THAT is when you'll say "HOLY COW! The CV1 looks like crap compared to the Reverb!". One concrete example of that improvement was on the first mission of one of the Red Flag campaigns, where you're flying into Nellis with a flight of A-10s. In the CV1 I just had to take it on faith that those A-10s were with me, in the Reverb, not only could I see every single one of those other A-10s...but I could actually tell they were A-10s. As I recall, the way I had things set up, it was pretty close to running at half (or maybe less) resolution when taken as a percentage of the "full resolution" I was running my CV1 at. No comparison...the Reverb was better in every way. I'm using a G2 now, and have a 3090 instead of the 2080ti that I was using when I made the transition from the CV1 to the Reverb. Still tweaking a little at a time to see how much harder I can push it.
  2. The trans-oceanic shipping itself isn't too much of a problem, and customs here in the US seems to be getting things done pretty efficiently...its when the item reaches the "destination sorting center" that things seem to slow to a crawl. Still waiting for some electronic parts that came all the way from China to the US in about 4 days, cleared customs in 1 day, and have been sitting in the sorting center for almost 2 weeks since then. OTOH, items I have been ordering from the UK get to my door in about 2 weeks. Seems like the US west coast ports of entry are a real bottleneck right now.
  3. I was thrilled when it was mentioned on this forum that EVGA had a waiting list I could get on for the 3090. I think it took about 9 months for my place in line to come up, but it did, and I didn't have to reward scalpers either. MAN what a LONG wait though.
  4. I'm definitely in agreement with you about VR benefitting from more VRAM. I don't think that the linked benchmark is necessarily going to be relevant to VR. All I can say is that I love my 3090 in DCS on my G2. Not sure if someone upgrading from a 3080 to a 3080ti or even a 3090 would be worth the extra cash outlay though. The only way to know for sure would be to see a DCS VR benchmark between the 3 cards on the same system, with all the same test conditions. Otherwise, all anybody can do is make guesses based on what seems logical. Even benchmarks can be misleading, because you don't know how much a better performance number is going to translate into a noticeable, visual improvement. You have no way of knowing if you're going to end up with the reaction of "THIS is what I spent all that money on?!!" The law of diminishing returns I guess. I almost talked myself into not getting a 3090 because it was taking so long to get one, even started to rationalize that it wasn't going to be any better than my 2080ti. I'm glad I didn't stay in that mindset...it definitely made a big difference with how much harder I can push things.
  5. I believe it is. It also carried an air-to-ground radar on the left wing.
  6. Am I reading correctly that you're running your Oculus headset through SteamVR for DCS? With Oculus headsets, you don't need to run them through SteamVR for DCS to work. Have you tried just going into DCS without SteamVR involved?
  7. I was running an Oculus CV1 for games that used hand controllers, and a G1 for sims like DCS for a while and never had any issues with the two fighting with each other. WMR only activates when you plug a WMR headset into your machine, so you should be fine running two different HMDs on the same rig. Not sure about how the Vive software runs on the VP2 though, so I don't know if it will try to run automatically. The Oculus software did that, but it was pretty easy to change that. Just had to switch that software to "Run as administrator" to get it to give me a prompt asking if I wanted to allow it to run. Might be the same with the VP2, or it may not even be as complicated as that.
  8. Oh, sorry Steel Jaw, my post was actually directed at the OP. I forgot to use the quote feature to make it clear who I was responding to.
  9. You're probably running just a little too much super-sampling. Have you tried reducing that in either OTT, DCS PD, or both? That was usually what caused issues for me, no matter which headset I was using. Frame rate stayed the same in all cases, but I got the ghosting if my super-sampling was set too high. Also, I highly recommend the Kegetys shader mod. That allows you to run higher super-sampling with less impact in the form of ghosting.
  10. Here is an alternative method for backing things up, in case you want to try it. https://mostechtips.com/how-to-reinstall-steam-without-deleting-games-easily/
  11. Don, you don't have to re-download any of your Steam titles after doing an uninstall/reinstall of Steam. Have a look at this link... https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4593-5CB7-DC3C-64F0. I have had to do this in the past when my CV1 worked just fine with SteamVR and my G2 was having issues. It fixed those issues. I mentioned it before in this thread, but you must have missed it. The whole backup and restore thing with the Steam library was actually a pretty painless process, and I didn't have to reinstall any of my Steam titles...and I have A LOT of them.
  12. Yup. Microshaft burned me once with the "Upgrade to Windows 10! Its free, and if you don't like it you can go back to your previous OS!" Been stuck with it ever since, but fortunately it eventually evolved to be rock solid like it is now. No way I'm going to deliberately do anything to "upgrade" at this point...having to suffer through all of the growing pains of Windows 10 was bad enough.
  13. Don, forgive me if you mentioned it somewhere in the thread already, but did you try an uninstall/reinstall of Steam itself? I ended up doing that once when I was having problems with my G2, but not my CV1, in the same SteamVR title. It actually fixed it. That was after uninstalling/reinstalling Steam VR and the WMR plugin several times to no avail. Doing the complete uninstall/reinstall of the Steam platform was actually a fairly quick and painless process, and you don't have to reinstall all of your Steam titles afterward if you follow Steam's guide for backing up your Steam library. Granted, there were no base stations involved of course, but my G2 would only link up with SteamVR once per power cycle on my machine. I would have to do a complete restart of my machine to get another SteamVR session to link up with it. Definitely not the same problem as what you have I know, but it had that similarity of the once per power cycle behavior.
  14. Your system will do just fine with the G2. Its actually less taxing on your system than lower-resolution headsets because you don't have to do nearly as much supersampling to get a decent image. The setup process really isn't as scary as it is sometimes made to sound on these forums. Once you have WMR enabled on your machine, you just need to download Steam VR, along with a second Steam program called "Steam VR for WMR". Once you get those installed, running the G2 is no more difficult than plugging the G2 in, waiting for WMR to recognize it and run (which all happens automatically), double-clicking your DCS icon like you've always done to start DCS...and that's it. Steam VR will start automatically and next thing you know, you'll be sitting in the DCS hangar.
  15. I took the headphones off my G2, mostly because they suck, and now I use Bose QC35s with an Avantree DG80 USB Bluetooth audio dongle. A little clunky getting everything paired the first time, but once that's done its done. MUCH better sound.
  16. You're an old pro at handling WMR though, so it won't be nearly as bad as the first time you were exposed to it. You'll be done in 5 minutes and wonder why you were so hesitant.
  17. Too bad you didn't have access to another similarly-equipped rig to try it out on. This doesn't sound like a hardware issue, so it'll be interesting to see what HTC ends up finding.
  18. Don, just curious, did you delete all of your WMR stuff? Is that why you're worried about setting the G2 back up temporarily?
  19. Yes, it means that he edited his post. That's all it means. Not sure what posting a quote from a thread other than this one has to do with anything. Anyway, just pointing you to the specs in his post. Sometimes people miss stuff. Not sure why you're getting offended.
  20. All of his hardware info is right there in his post, as well as the track file that he used for his testing. There are even screenshots of his DCS graphics settings and what mods he does or doesn't use. He was comparing two different cards, in exactly the same rig, with everything else being the same. You can't get much better than that for a true, apples to apples comparison between the cards.
  21. He's using a 3080ti, not a 3080. That's probably the difference.
  22. Cool! That makes it even easier to re-install Steam.
  23. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Steam and its components? I had to do that once due to random crashing and general strange behavior of SteamVR. Haven't had any issues since then. If you decide to try that, do a Google search to find the procedures for backing up your Steam library and the uninstall/reinstall process. Its actually not all that bad to do that, and you won't have to reinstall all of your Steam titles. Definitely far less scary than the nuclear option of a Windows reinstallation.
  24. Nice! I hear that this gives you the most true-to-life VR experience ever thought possible. I pre-ordered mine just now.
