Virtual Carrier Air Wing EIGHT - We Aren't For Everyone
_Hoss replied to Spool's topic in Jets Squadrons
Hey Sabot, how ya been brother? I'm still training on the Hornet so I can come fly with the group. I see Taz is back too....... give the gang my regards Hoss -
After further experimentation last night with the Jug, I found out it's much worse than I thought. All the L/R/B bomb arming/jettison controls on my BlackHog don't work, everything else does, I had to go through and assign key presses for bomb/rocket arming/de-arming and jettison in the P-51, P-47, Mosquito (1 - 9, RCTL + 1 - 9) I came up with a database so I would not be stepping on other keystrokes in a module. I combined those keystrokes and tried to keep them as consistent as possible between modules. Well they worked great before the update, now they are borked in the Jug and Mossie, the Mustang still works like I programed it (joy2key). So that tells me my BlackHog is working as advertised. Beta testing modules is very bad in DCS before a release is put out, they look for discrepencies on fixes module upgrades developers are doing and skip the others. We all know that is a common occurrence after every update. The release version is just as bad. Most of the servers I fly on when I get the chance are Open-Beta servers, and the individuals I fly with all use Open-Beta. So it's disconcerting when the modules you love to fly are gathering dust and getting worse with every update. I guess we will have to get up a Truck Convoy and head to DCS/ED and blast our air-horns...................... I'm probably going to get more naughty boy points from the admins......... Hoss

No, F/A-18E-F's going into overhaul are being updated to Advanced Super Hornets, or Block II to Block III, not all but a good majority. And some are being built from scratch. I'm retired Navy, and retired Boeing, so I've known about this for awhile, Did you know some of the Super Hornets sent to Australia are wired to become Growlers if the RAAF should decide to convert them? Oh yeah, the first Block III has been delivered to the US Navy already.................. Nope, no Troll, Ogre maybe, but no Troll. So if you are going to ask for something, ask for the latest iteration of the Hornet. From the Boeing web page on the Block III Hornet..... https://www.boeing.com/defense/fa-18-super-hornet/ Cheers Hoss the Ogre

Virtual Carrier Air Wing EIGHT - We Aren't For Everyone

VA-165 was on the Connie when I was ships company 2/79 - 6/82, we had VA-146 Blue Diamonds, and VA-147 Argonauts. VFA147 is the first Lemoore squadrons to convert to F-35's and is the squadron that lost the F-35 on the Vinson. Ooops... We had VA-95 on the Lincoln for the A-6 squadron in CAW-11... and of course my two favorite NASL squadrons... VFA-22 (YCBAR), VFA-94 (SHWFOTS). Hoss -
Why P-47 is so much harder to control than P-51?
_Hoss replied to brucewhf's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
I'm sorry it took so long to get back on this thread, but I've been busy with family................. Here are some pics of my throttle set up with the BlackHog and GVL R/P/Y trim box. Youtube video... And hopefully this invite to the HOTAS/HOSAS/SIMPIT Discord channel works. https://discord.gg/szqaJE7 He has a page on this discord, with lots of his controllers. There are many iterations of this trim box. I'd PM him via this discord and ask him about his gear. I would not wait too long, he's in the Ukraine, and shipping out of the country might become a problem if said entity on the East border decide to come across. Hoss -

I'm looking forward to VA-94, VA-22, A-7's. their 1988/89 cruise was the last cruise of A-7's on the west coast.. along with the A-6 squadron participated in Operation Preying Mantis. I'm glad the A-6 is coming, so we can flesh out a good cold war carrier scenario. -
I've got a question for the lua experts, concerning the controller script for the P-47. I'd like to see if the Jugs borked analog trim script is close to or the same as the Mustangs. Reason being, my analog trim box works great in the Mustang and Spitfire, but is halved in the Jug and Mossie. The cockpit and cold air controls in the Mustang are probably never going to be fixed, there's no money in it. So I'd like to see if there is a way to compare and experiment with the lua if at all to fix this problem, because I prefer the analog trim to the keyboard trim, which works great by the way. And yes I did revert back to keyboard trim in the Jug and Mossie. If someone would like to experiment with me that's knowledgeable and willing to look at and fix the script. You can PM me to talk if you wish and then when and if we see a fix we can share it with the Jug/Mossie drivers. Thanks Hoss

What is the name of the water injection control?
_Hoss replied to LaLa's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I have the thumb button in the jugs throttle mapped on the China Hat forward, which I hold and then the lock function is on my pinky paddle of the stick. And like others I just hit the paddle again to turn it off. And that's in the -30, I need to get into the -40 so I can map the Rocket controls, Only place I can find one is in Multiplayer. When I do a full load out take off I use WEP and Boost on short fields, so getting it working was a must. You may be able to use the new L/R mouse clicks to get that done but it seems very awkward unless you have a left handed mouse. Hoss -
Digital or Analog trim? My stick (TMWH) keypress trim actions work just fine in every plane I have it assigned (all). But............. I also have an analog R/P/Y control box which works great on the Mustang and Spitfire. I get full 1:1 movement on my controllers trim wheel and the trim wheel in the Mustangs cockpit. However, in the Jug and Mossie it's stuck at mid point and will only go one way or the other, I do not get full 1:1 deflection in cockpit. The Jug/Mossie start at just forward of Neutral and will only go nose heavy, same with Roll and Yaw wheels in the cockpit. I wish I knew how to find that in the P-47/Mossie's lua so I could compare the Mustang and Jug numbers and see if they are supposed to be the same or if there is some syntax error in the script. Of course I'm not any good with lua language, but it should be simple to compare and experiment. I can't bork it any worse than it is now. I've just deleted the analog assignments from the control settings and went back to digital keyboard assignments. I guess the beta testers only play with the new toys and don't go to see if any of the other modules get broken from Alpha to Beta to Release Candidate, broken features, control settings, test them in campaigns, single player, multiplayer and report the bugs for fixing. If it's reported it must not be a high enough priority (Mustang canopy, cold air lever) for them to take it for action.

Wow, thanks brucewhf................... LOL

Did not see the coffee mess either......................
-
NAS Fallon is where Strike U is on the West Coast, the Navy uses it all the time. Dets are constantly leaving Lemoore going up to Fallon to play with the real toys, there's also an ECM range there too.
-
Why not just ask for an Advanced Super Hornet, conformal tanks, 3,500lbs of extra fuel, reduced drag, increased range, speed, maneuverability. Enhanced Engines, next generation cockpit, advanced AESA RADAR, internal IRST, and enclosed weapons pod. Of course it comes in E or F configuration. Or ask for an EA-18G for ECM/SEAD business............ Go big, or go home Hoss

I'd like to see the modules that I purchase actually work the way they were intended, that systems modeled actually do what they are supposed to. And a bit more aggressive and wider sampling from Beta testers for each module, not only the new one but older ones that get broke every update we get. I know everyone is all jazzed to go play with the bright shiny new toy, and I can't blame them really. But ED/DCS/3rd Party developers need to have more testing to see what it was that gets broke, in Alpha/Beta and Release Candidates. I don't expect to hear from my mechanic, we installed your transmission, but did not get the chance to see if it affected anything else............. so on the way out you find out your brakes don't work, or they throw you through the windshield when you push the pedal. Why P-47 is so much harder to control than P-51?
_Hoss replied to brucewhf's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
I figured that, since the Pony/Spit work just fine. You can use one of the mods for the cockpit...... I have always loved the Jug more than any other warbird, but I'll always take a P-38 anytime I can find one. -
fixed Unable to trim aft beyond nose neutral via axis
_Hoss replied to Cool-Hand's topic in Bugs and Problems
I've got one of GVL's R/P/Y trim boxes, so I've got all three on analog axis control. Not only the pitch trim, but the Roll, Yaw are borked in the Jug too, along with the Mossie. In the Mustang and Spit I get 1:1 rotation of the cockpit trim wheels and my trim box. The Jug will default to neutrals but I can only get NH pitch, will not go past neutral to TH. Same with yaw, roll only one direction, left roll, right yaw. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem. I removed the analog controller from my said profiles... works great on all planes in the "other" sim. But there is nothing wrong with my controller, the Bomb Arming, de-arming, jettison commands won't work on my controller, for the Jug, but work great in the Mustang, just like the Trim bug. -

Why P-47 is so much harder to control than P-51?
_Hoss replied to brucewhf's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
P-47 in DCS is a dream to fly, I actually like it better than the P-51, Mosquito, and the Spitfire. With the digital trim it's easy to go hands off as long as you keep your hands off the throttle. I have one of GVL's trim boxes R/P/Y, with pots that have three full rotations in it, so there is lots of travel. The Mustang and Spit trim wheels turn 1:1 with my controller. The Jug and Mossie do not, I get only 50% of rotation in the plane, so I'm stuck with digital vice analog trim. I'd like to see the P-38 and see if it flies straight with counter rotating props. Hoss -
Navy Phantoms had Sea Legs...... beefier landing gear. If you remember McNamara tried to push the F-111 off on the Navy and Marine Corp, like they did with the Phantom. The USN was more interested in the Tomcat, now it's the Lightning II. The F-15 variants "Dash" letter has to do with the country we sell it to...... F-15SA, Saudia Arabia, F-15I, IDF, etc.........

What flight stick? (TM, VKB, Virpil, WW) what software are you running on it? (TARGET, Joystick Gremlin, Joy2key) I've got a TMWH and assigning buttons to the trim function works just fine, some move faster or slower than others (plane specific) In DCS I can use either TARGET GUI, where I assign the keypad equivelent of the movement (Ctl + F UP/and F for down) but you have to make the buttons a "HOLD" function so they stay on while you have it depressed. and Sedenion's Combined 128dx script in TARGET SCRIPT to assign a dx function to the "Flap" function. (don't need "HOLD" function) they all work just fine. However, I also have a GVL R/P/Y trim control box with the three rotation pots on each wheel. It works as advertised on the P-51, but the P-47 and Mossie have problems with full deflection of cockpit wheel and controller wheel. Another thing ED needs to fix among a cornucopia of other Warbird fixes. Sometimes I wonder if people ask themselves "why bother buying the Warbirds if they are that buggy" Hoss

Thurstmaster is no longer the gold standard for flight simulation.
_Hoss replied to Toga10's topic in Thrustmaster
The HOTAS/HOSAS/SIMPIT discord channel has nothing but horror stories about Virpil, VKB, WinWing HOTAS being delivered with horrendous form, fit and function problems. They are either having to contact said mfg. to get replacement parts, or are sending them back, or trading around opinions of how to fix them so they will kind of work. On the Thrustmaster page there is hardly a whimper about stuff not working or breaking. (mostly TARGET problems) Well I'll take that back, there is grief over the F/A-18 grip. It has the same amount of buttons the F-16 grip has, so I don't see a reason to switch myself. I've had my TMWH set up for over ten years, without a problem. If and when I ever have to replace mine it will be with TMWH pieces. My Crosswinds are fantastic as well, had them for a few years and no problems there either. Don't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers, but opinions are opinions, and a dime a dozen. Mine included. Cheers Hoss -
I thought that too, I play even less now.

I use Sedenion's Complete 128 dx script, versions 1.5 & 1.6 allow for pitch, yaw trim by default, S3 enabled (pinky switch) and the L/R movement gives me roll trim. Setting your trim up before you take off IAW with what is needed will reduce the workload. Yaw trim is the easiest, center the ball. I hold the stick loosely at center point to get the pitch set. If the ball is still centered and it rolls, adjust roll trim, gently. As a pilot you know any change in speed or torque with props will nullify R/P/Y settings. Watch the controls in the cockpit, some move quickly while others are at a snail pace. I got a R/P/Y trim box from Vitaly (GVL). It works great on the Mustang but I don't get full deflection/movement 1 : 1 with in game wheel and the full three rotations of my controller. It's not the trim box, but the game settings causing the problem (P-47, Mossy). I have no problems with jets at all and don't trim them much. I can trim a warbird with the TMWH stick and fly hands off with no problem. Hoss

need track replay Mosquito Handling, what happened?
_Hoss replied to Bozon's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
I'm using my right toe brake axis, I've played with the curves forever and if you breath on it the tail comes off the ground. I'll try this curve and see what happens. Thanks Hoss -

Explain your fix please, the brakes are a colossal pain in the ass..... the Tokyo drift on take off is very annoying too. Once in the air I love it. Hoss
