-
The purpose of flaps used on landing is to increase an aircraft's descent rate without an increase in airspeed.
-
I find that it's set pretty neutral for takeoff with flaps extended and a full load. But a couple of thumb strokes either way should help make it right for you.

Sryan's basic combat guide should help. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=167279&highlight=Sryan Concerning the awesome Red Fag Campaign, Buyap's YouTube channel has some excellent walk-throughs.

I think making your own custom kneebards with Kneeboard Builder and moving and resizing them with the app so that they are easy to use in VR is by far the best solution.
-
The FlyInside head pointer and interface is done really well. However, for me in DCS the mouse is still the preferred manipulation method. Perhaps that will change with time and depends on the module.
-
It's on the VR tab. Enable the mouse and your head pointer should turn off.
-
With those specs you should be fine. Has it always behaved this way? What about in other sims/games? Back to DCS, it almost sounds like you've got a controller conflict, like another axis is affecting head tracker stability. I've got the same specs and I'm smooth as buttah with the VR preset.

One of the things that you give up while using a headset is having a paper clipboard or actual kneeboard to refer to while flying a mission. I especially notice this when doing a campaign like Red Flag 16-2 for the F-15C, which has a detailed briefing, lineup card, and map for every mission. Using Kneeboard Builder, I now create a kneeboard group for each mission adding those items along with a personal group that I throw odds and ends into, like checklists and a map of my controller config. This works really well, maybe better than the real deal, albeit you can't take notes of course. Are you talking about looking around in the pit? You can only do this with your head AFAIK. External view works with a hat or key binding because you are not in a first person view.

That's from the 1959 release The Wild Blue Yonder by Oscar Brand and the Roger Wilco Four. I grew up listening to those songs, dad being a cold war fighter pilot. At one point I'm sure that my brothers and I (and mom) probably know most of the lyrics to that album by heart. Oscar Brand is a legend and much beloved by the USAF pilots of that era, I.E., before the phrase politically correct was coined. That album is a treasure of fighter pilot drinking songs of the highest (lowest) order. Much to be enjoyed.

@Stacker +1 You have to jump on the pedals early. I tested at various T/O weights and wind speeds and directions. If you have 4 m/s and above you really have to stay on the rudder. No crosswind, the aircraft tracks straight. Differential braking helps. The NWS becomes ineffective above around 40 KIAS, but until that point it is helpful, regardless as to what I've read about disabling it once the aircraft is lined up on the runway. So, what works for me is to enable NWS and be prepared to input rudder (and sometime aileron in direction of crosswind) up to a full deflection to stay aligned with the runway. You can't just sit there as a casual observer. I've not flown a Mirage IRL, so not sure about the vertical stab's effectiveness. But all of the general aviation aircraft that I have flown require you to steering them on takeoff. You might have 5 KIAS right on your nose, but even if you take away P-Factor and torque associated with propeller driven aircraft, there are always other factors. For instance, rarely are runways flat. In other words, fly the airplane.
-
Crosswind. Check your mission settings and report back.
-
Fly the airplane.

How to defend against SAMs. Thank you.

I've noticed the same behavior. Press A (one of the default key mappings for Attitude hold) and the AUTO PLT light illuminates. Then press H (one of the default key mappings for Altitude hold) and the ATTITUDE light comes on. If you press H without A beforehand, neither light. v1.5.3.52018. It seems to function correctly regardless of the wrong light being displayed.

Thanks Wavehopper. No rush. @assafm25, it's an i7 slightly OC'd to 4 GHz and a 980 GTX graphics card using Wags' settings that he posted a while ago when introducing the NTTR, if memory serves. I typically get over 100 fps, depending on the aircraft and mission. 27" monitor at 1920x1080. Would like one of those new curved wide monitors. So nice.

I'm flying Wavehopper's Medevac Campaign and he's added FM beacons to home on. Referencing Chuck's excellent UH-1H Huey guide page 82, he mentions set Sensitivity on high. Not sure how to do this. Also, I guess that in this mode the OBS doesn't do anything? In other words, since it's not a VOR, no sense tinkering with the OBS? Just turn the aircraft until the CDI is in the center? TIA

I have to +1 this idea. I flew mission 3 last night of v5.1 and after the requested shutdown, sat for 20 mins. I probably missed the next orders, but finally had to call it a night. I did get 50 pts for flying the first segment and advancement to the next mission, which was nice. However, I think that we need some audible queue on the comms if we are going to park for a while. Edit: Since FM homing was added, is there any penalty for not hitting your waypoints and cutting the course? Or should we always fly the planned route? Thanks. Here we sit enjoying a moon pie and RC Cola waiting for some action.

Here is my setup for the TM Warthog and Saitek PRO Combat Pedals. Haven't used a Saitek stick in a long while. DCS_L-39_TM_WARTHOG.zip

flyco is correct if you have your zoom on a slider like TM warthog JOY_SLIDER2. Click AXIS TUNE, then click Slider and set Curvature to something that works. -10 is what I use for most aircraft.
-
That's very helpful msalama. Thanks for linking. Probably the one that I would use most is EGT 10 seconds starting and acceleration 625-675. Good to know that you have a wee bit of time out of the green if needed. Edit: Are you saying that the sim is way off in that a pilot doesn't pay a penalty for going out of the green, or that the EGT modeling doesn't appear correct? Anyway, I plan to respect those numbers in a quest for keeping it "real".
-
I'm with Aginor, especially an E model, but why recreate the war over Hanoi, when you can relive those iconic air battles like Ethiopia/Somalia or Iran/Iraq, LOL? :)
-
If you use JOY_SLIDER2 on the TM Warthog throttle, you can just go to AXIS TUNE, set it as a slider, then move the Curvature in/out to suit for the mid point position. I usually go -10 on most aircraft. L-39 setup attached.

I wish that it were documented somewhere. I just created a mission at Batumi. Turned on and set my VHF for 131.00, distribution panel on 2 (VHF). Tried both the pilot's and operator's mic button, and the tower doesn't respond. However, hit the \ key and use the ATC menu to request permission to taxi or hover check, and the tower responds. When I get to the runway, the option to takeoff isn't there. I think that it wants you to depart at your own discretion. I checked the mission settings and simple comms are not set. At least they respond from the coms menu.
