Sim Voice Checklists - what do you want?
Chipwich replied to Johnny Dioxin's topic in Community News
@zaelu, thanks. Setting mine to 93 also solved my problem. @Brixmis, I'd like one more thing added to the Huey checklist pls. "Set instruments", or something of that nature to remind me to turn on and zero the radar altimeter, and any other instrument. Does anyone know if we need to set the barometric altimeter and DG? I noticed once that I got the aircraft started and began taxiing that the radar altimeter was off (switch is at the back of the overhead panel, but the radar altimeter doesn't come "alive" until you rotate the left knob a click). Looks like the altimeter is automatically set to the prevailing barometric pressure and the DG is set to true heading on spawn. Wow, is there that much magnetic variation here? OK, so really, the only nice thing to have would be "Radar altimeter power switch set to RADAR". -
Sim Voice Checklists - what do you want?

Brixmis, thanks again for your contributions. I was able to launch and run through the checklist once, but once inside the game, no joy. In the debug I see that my commands are being correctly detected, the checklist are not being executed though. I'll play around with things some more. A shutdown checklist for the Huey would be greatly appreciated, if you ever get the time. Thank you Sir. -
Can't wait to fly these, and the 3 mods that you have chosen are must-haves IMO. Well done Sir.

Does anyone get the impression that Wavehopper likes rain? Great shots by the way. Lots of atmosphere.
-
Thanks for the mission Wavehopper. It was my first medevac and I'm not sure that I'm cut out to be a slick pilot. It's hard sitting there when so many are shooting at you not to be able to shoot back :). Well, I suppose the grunts and the door gunners did their job or we wouldn't have made it out of there. The mission is a good one though, and the skin pack is a nice addition. Look forward to the rest.

I had the same experience with the downed pilot missions that only give an NDB, which can reach 100's of miles. Think AM radio station. If we had a little more info, say from an airborne cp, awacs or the mission brief, it would make feel more confident about storming off into hostile territory. Not for rookies, that's for sure.

Wow, it is really difficult to "fly straight" in a Huey.
Chipwich replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I just finished 'Guts and Gunships' in which Garrison relates the trick to flying the under-powered Charlie model gunship as compared to the H model slicks. That was to use very small inputs on the controls. Really great read for this module BTW. -
Hi guys. I've attempted to install via JSGME for 1.5.3 per the instructions above, but the textures in-game look the same. Question, I notice that the original vfstexturs folder has .ZIP archives. Do we need to import the replacement files into those .ZIP archives for the mod to work? Thanks and really looking forward to flying the UH1-H here.

Great Brixmis. Much appreciated. The web version works well on my nVidia Shield tablet. Cheers!

Big thanks to whomever figured this out. This solved my issue with 1.5.3, but the path to the server.lua was actually: C:\Users\<User Profile>\Saved Games\DCS\Config

How about some Steppenwolf with appropriate arse kicking video?
-
Great video indeed! Thanks for that link. Those slick pilots had big ones. CCR Suzie Q sounds great while flying Hueys IMO.

I sorry, that "game" looks pretty dated IMO. 2D pits in 2015? You must be joking. Take a look at the Carenado B200 or PC-12 aircraft in X-Plane if you want "real". And that web site is full of rhetorical marketing statements without much detail on how it is better than other sims like X-Plane or Prepar3D.

Problem with F8 because of TrackIR5
Chipwich replied to ctguy1955's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
That's obvious and therefore unimportant. I only indicated it as such since it's on the same side of the keyboard as the default keys. So rather than reinvent the wheel, my point was to to simply add the control modifier and you are done. -
Just adding my .02 and preferences. Since we already have 2 of the major players in the Huey and Mig-21, in order I'd like to see: - F-4E (dad flew these during his last tour to Ubon in '72, I grew up around them, and still am in contact with my father's squadron mates, who would gladly contribute their mission experiences up North, including Mig killers and those who were shot down) - Mig-17 (from research, other than the 21, undoubtedly the major antagonist of the air war) - Thud (WW missions and A-G element of strike packages) Optional - A-6 multi crewable with carrier - Skyraider both land and carrier based - Spooky (trail interdiction) - Jolly Green While the entire theater would be welcome, everything from Da Nang north would do nicely. That would also include Khe Sanh and the Ho Chi Minh trail if it were to extend west.

Problem with F8 because of TrackIR5
Chipwich replied to ctguy1955's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
RT CTRL-F9 to pause and RT CTRL-F12 to center are not used by DCS, and are just a modifier from the default TrackIR defaults. I disable the other two commands since I never use them. -
Multicrewing in Jane's Longbow 2 with my brother was a ton of fun. We would switch roles every other mission so it never got stale. In fact my other two brothers joined us a couple of times in another Apache during LAN sessions. Was great fun, and yes the no drinking 8 hours before flying rule might have been ignored.

F-15C Flight Qualification Campaign
Chipwich replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in User Created Missions General
That almost looks like the gear is retracted or that it is resting on a power cart. What about an external screenshot to get an idea of what the aircraft is resting on? -
F-15C Flight Qualification Campaign
Chipwich replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in User Created Missions General
I worried that we're giving away spoilers here, but since it's been discussed in the thread already, I noticed a pretty cool thing in BFT02. When I shut down no. 2, it wouldn't spoil down below around ~ 14 % and I was stressing that maybe I hadn't shut it down correctly. But once cleared the active, I looked and sure enough it was 0 %. I think that the turbine windmilling is being simulated. Did anyone else notice this? So far very happy with the F-15 Flight Qualification Campaign. Thanks. -

A-10C sans TARGET: how to assign Shift?
Chipwich replied to Chipwich's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Awesome guys. Thanks very much! -
Greetings. In some of the threads where folks recommend flying the A-10C without TARGET, to which I fully agree, there is also a recommendation to set up the pinkie lever on the stick (S4) as Shift. I know how to do this in TARGET, but how would one accomplish this without TARGET? Maybe I missed something in DCS -> OPTIONS -> CONTROLS. Can't for the life of me figure out how that is done. TIA

SLI 970's at 3440x1440p - performance?
Chipwich replied to Buckeye's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
FWIW. I just went through this same decision with Falcon NW. I had two 970s in my build, but they asked me if I was planning on doing any 4K gaming. If so, they recommended a single 980 over 970s in SLI because of the way that the 970 uses its memory, and the fact that SLI takes advantage of the second GPU, but not the memory.
