  1. I wish that it were documented somewhere. I just created a mission at Batumi. Turned on and set my VHF for 131.00, distribution panel on 2 (VHF). Tried both the pilot's and operator's mic button, and the tower doesn't respond. However, hit the \ key and use the ATC menu to request permission to taxi or hover check, and the tower responds. When I get to the runway, the option to takeoff isn't there. I think that it wants you to depart at your own discretion. I checked the mission settings and simple comms are not set. At least they respond from the coms menu.
  2. I can't image using a brake pedal for this, but since it is an axis, you can use the axis tune panel in DCS and change the curve to set the minimum FOV to be where you like it. You probably want to play around a bit to find the right settings.
  3. Edit: never mind. A-4E. Must have been wishful hearing :) Much enjoyed listening to this. You mention a hoggit F-4E. Anyone have a link to this? Or did I imagine that.
  4. Enjoy flying the beta Sabre and wait until your game updates.
  5. Those are fantastic pampa14. Thanks for sharing
  6. ...and it sometimes is not enough. Pitot heat will not help if the static port(s) is blocked or iced over. So, even if pitot heat is on, you might find yourself losing your ASI, ALT, and VSI all at once.
  7. That last link is great. Thanks for posting Damocles.
  8. There's an an inner and an outer NDB at the airport at Mineralnye Vody, not too far from the hospital. They are 583 and 283. I homed on the inner and it was perfect. Outer would have been closer. Edit: I'm pretty sure that the orders were to land at the hospital, and coming over from Gudauta put those in good position to home on until you got within 5 miles of the hospital. But the clipboard map had steerpoints so not a big deal.
  9. I'm thinking quality over quantity, i.e. refine with voice-overs and the other details that give the campaign a polished feel. If you've got 30 great missions in you, then bring 'em on. But on the other hand, what about taking a break, then doing a gunship campaign doing slick escorts. That is if you find building them rewarding. We sure enjoy flying them Wavehopper. Kudos for all if your hard work to this point!
  10. One of the finest novels ever written IMO, and by a former USAF Korean conflict Sabre pilot. I see that it has been released in Audible format, so I probably need to listen to it, having last read The Hunters by James Salter at least a decade ago.
  11. So finished mission 2 last night for the normal DustOff4 (mission 1 for NoIntro) and enjoyed it. Without giving details away it's amazing how crappy my approaches and landings are when there are a bunch of bullets flying at the LZ. It usually starts with a high approach with too much airspeed and too high descent rate. That's followed by an oh-shizzle flare which deteriorates into too little left pedal compounded by a mushing and spinning bird until I get control of the thing enough to set down. I've usually forgotten to give the door gunners a "fire at will" command and sit hunkered behind my armor with a thoroughly puckered hunkus while the crew chief does his thing. At least the return rides and landings have been uneventful :) What a wimp!
  12. One more question for you Huey drivers, how common IRL is it to venture north of the EGT green arc? In other words, at higher altitudes or at high density altitude it seems almost impossible to takeoff and hover with a full load while keeping the needle inside the green arc. I see yellow and red marks. Is it common to operate in this area for short periods of time? TIA
  13. I've been trying to keep EGT in the green arc, but wow, using the engine de-icer as you do with the Medevac campaign mission1 and it's a challenge. That must raise EGT by 10-15%. The pitot heater is all but useless as well. Wonder if that is acccurate. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  14. Awesome Wavehopper. Will load this one and drive on. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  15. Question, if we overwrite version 3 missions with version 4, will we loose our progress? I'd hate to fly over the humps again. Mommy.
  16. As long as they don't call a magazine a clip, I'm OK :)
  17. Rock on Flamin_Squirrel. I'm well aware of where the stick needs to be. Just putting it there prior so that the throw is less when I mash the trim button after lift off. Probably a habit from flying fixed wing too, setting takeoff trim. And it sort wants to be right there during taxi and until you begin accerlating for TL.
  18. For take-offs, hover, and taxi, IMO setting up the trim before lift and using the radar altimeter are invaluable. For landings, flying the training mission Landing Solo Practice helped me a lot. I repeated it many times trying to stay as close to the 500 fpm decent rate and target airspeed. Once I could do this, I worked on approaches outside of my comfort zone. The next challenge for me was landing and taking off in tight spaces, as are needed for CASEVAC missions. It's one thing to be able to land consistently without wind and with plenty of room, but add a windy approach into a tight meadow while bad guys are shooting at you and you will feel like you are back to step one. When joyriding, look for tight places and shoot an approach. Then add weather. Rinse, repeat.
  19. The Audible Chickenhawk production is excellent, as is the one for Guts and Gunships. Not Huey specific, but I just started Life and Death in the Central Highlands and it is as well written as Chickenhawk IMO. Listen to the preview for a good sample.
  20. Thanks BtLH. Is this for 1.5.3?
  21. I'm about 2/3s the way through Chickenhawk right now, and read just prior Guts and Gunships. My thoughts are no matter what you call it, there would be no way would I want to go into a hot LZ without a door gunner. Those pilots and crews had big ones.
  22. With regards to the music (great playlist BTW), I noticed that it is silenced when you turn on the VHF Com for the tower. Is that by design or necessity?
  23. Thanks. You the man Tako. What a relief. I wanted to fly the other version, but realized that I don't have a mustache and not nearly macho enough to fly the Mi-8.
  24. No problem Brixmis. Based on what you've done, I've tweaked it to my liking and recorded my own version with a few personal additions like Set flight instruments and Set takeoff trim. Yours is more standard so I wouldn't change it. Cheers!
  25. I've only flown the firebase mission once, but it was fine for me. Did not use time acceleration.
