  1. We still don't know how the new maps in EDGE will handle the edge. The entire Black Sea is navigable in the current map. Depending upon how much water is included, it may be possible to do carrier ops from somewhere out in the Arabian Sea. Based on this quote: "The region also includes the vast Arabian Sea that is well-suited to combat aircraft carrier operations." you might be able to fly over from near the coast of India (though probably undetailed India) also, the post says "390 x 390 km highly detailed map area". I wouldn't read too much into it, but we don't know what they might do regarding low detail area surrounding that. A simple height map with low res textures in the surrounding area probably wouldn't take too much to add.
  2. 1500x1500 is 25 times larger than 300x300, not 5 times. You would need to wait 25 years for that map.
  3. I would personally love an official DCS: Control Tower module with high fidelity simulated ATC activities, multiplayer integration, and 6DOF... "cockpit".
  4. I think it is more than a minor liberty to implement weapons that require an MFD to fire if the plane doesn't have an MFD. I am all for developers implementing weapons that an airplane can use but have never used operationally, but I don't think this is that case.
  5. It is possible to land SFM on the Vinson, you just need to reduce your vertical speed more when landing. The problem is that tail hooks don't work on the Vinson because the arresting force is oriented the wrong direction for players, so it bounces you back into the air instead of stopping the airplane. As for AFM/PFM, the problem is mainly what I refer to as the "slippery deck" bug. If the ship is moving at all, AFM/PFM vehicles will slowly slide off the deck and into the water. There is also a problem with the F-15C in 1.2.10 that its colllision model does not work properly with the aircraft carriers. It just falls through the ship deck instead of landing on it. I have not tested other AFM/PFM airplanes for this in 1.2.10.
  6. Also worth noting: the lambda was chosen because it is the first letter of Laconia (Λακωνία), which is the region of Greece that Sparta is located in.
  7. I have money saved from previous holidays for such an occasion so no one can complain when I spend money on DCS.
  8. I am pretty sure that is the fictional Northeria skin for the campaign. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129151
  9. Probably not. AFM/PFM landing gear do not currently work properly with aircraft carriers. I doubt they would release an Su-33 PFM prior to revising carrier ops, which is being done for the F/A-18C. I agree that the new sound tracks may be for the F/A-18C and L-39. Definitely something recent since the older aircraft modules had retro themes.
  10. As always, don't reserve your holiday until after you have the module installed. Those sneaky wrenches can come from anywhere.
  11. I was on the EDGE before, but now that this is confirmed for the final cut, I am sold. I'm not a super MiG-21 fan, but it is hard to pass up serious quality with serious firepower.
  12. RAlt+J is the shortcut for jumping in and out of vehicles. it works on whatever vehicle you are looking at so you don't have to go to the map view to switch vehicles. It is probably my favorite key combination in DCS.
  13. Regardless of knowing the facts or not, I am concerned that this situation may drive away other potential third party developers (Perhaps more so if they don't know the facts). I know it would cost resources for ED, but I think a strong third party base requires some nurturing. This appears to be an area that needs improvement. Hopefully ED handles third party relations better in the future.
  14. Okay, I have narrowed down the problem to being the cockpit. I think the problem with making a completely custom cockpit like in the Wunderluft template is that it does not include any light devices. It probably needs something like avBasicLightSystem, but that is not included in the Wunderluft template. (unless it was in this post, but that download is broken) So far the only way I have been able to make the aircraft lights work is by using a FC3 style cockpit and getting the cockpit shape from my own edm file, but then mainpanel_init.lua doesn't work.
  15. Almost none of the threads the Chit-Chat section have anything to do with ED/DCS, but you are right, since this is "of or relating to the government or the public affairs of a country." Some people think "getting political" means getting into a flame war.
  16. I guess I didn't make it clear. I have custom .edm models for both the cockpit and external model. I am not using default models. I have connectors in the external .edm with the correct names and user defined property. Based on my testing, the problem does not appear associated with the 3d model. Arguments 208 and 209 were the default Wunderluft taxi and landing lights, so I used those arguments, but I don't really care which arguments I use as long as something works.
  17. I just dropped my model directly into an unmodified copy of the Wunderluft and it does the same thing. I guess my problem boils down to: What is wrong with (or missing from) the Wunderluft that prevents lights from working unless it is AI controlled. all of my connectors are correctly named for Wunderluft.lua.
  18. The Su-33 probably won't be improved until after the F/A-18C since AFM/PFM does not currently work well with carriers.
  19. Sometimes I feel like people don't remember what 90's graphics looked like.
  20. I am using the Wudnerluft template, specifically the section on lights_data. I have tried enabling the lights through keyboard input, setting the draw arguments, and and iterating through all parameters in the game. It still only works when the plane is AI controlled. I have also determined this is not working with SFM either. Here is a reduced version of the lua (which has the same problem). I am using the default args 208 and 209 here. This is also consistent with the content of Lights.lua Is there something else I need to do that I am missing, or should that work?
  21. Does anyone know how to get lights working? I know I have the connectors set up properly because the AI is able to turn all of the lights on, but when I take control of the airplane, something outside of my EFM and lua (I think) is forcing the light arguments to 0. Hardcoding the light args to 1 in the EFM just makes the light sprites flicker without emitting light. Are there other commands or parameters that need to be set before turning the lights on?
  22. It appears that Lancaster flight engineers also had pilots training, so maybe they could implement multiplayer seat swapping. (seat swapping is already possible in the Huey.)
  23. The current map is actually a flat plane with 3d coordinates projected onto it. The sun and stars do change angles as you fly to different latitudes, but it gets a little buggy around the poles since the world is not actually spherical. The North and South poles are both finite points (I have flown there). If you try to do a polar circumnavigation flying South, the North pole that you eventually get to is actually a different location from the North pole that you would get to flying North, so if you fly to the same coordinates as the detailed black sea map, nothing will be there (test flight confirmed). Some of the navigation equipment starts to break after flying too far beyond the edge of the map though, so it can be difficult to stay on course. I theorize that if you do a circumnavigation East or West along the same latitude line, you will actually fly in a big circle around the North pole and get back to where you started, but since both the North and South poles (and their duplicates) are finite points, the equator probably stretches out in an infinite straight line to the east and west. I have not tested the limits of flying along latitude lines though. EDGE maps can be projected onto an actual 3d sphere (but they don't have to be). So you may be able to fly around a real spherical world on some maps in the future. Maybe a team will develop a complete map of the entire planet in the future.
