  1. Thanks for the reply. I already have the jumping working correctly. My problem is that for animations to work in DCS they need to be ArgBased, and I am not sure how to get that to work properly with texture transformations. I tried using the curve editor to add the ArgBased Float controller to the UVW Xform U Offset and I still couldn't get it to work. I know how to animate transparencies for DCS, so I could just have 10 copies of each digit and cycle through transparency, but that seems like a terrible solution.
  2. Is there a way to do argument based texture animation in 3dsMax? Basically I am trying to animate a digital clock (in DCS), so instead of physically rotating dials, I need to translate the texture map. I am currently using the UVW Xform modifier, but it doesn't seem to work with the animation controller arguments.
  3. Basically, trace some reference rays from the viewpoint through the glass with Snell's law to get the angular distribution, then use backwards mapping to render to texture on the armored glass in real time. Games like Portal use similar techniques, and I have no doubt the developers could implement it in DCS, but it would cost money and development time, so things like the F/A-18C might get pushed back further.
  4. That is a fun way to spell hazard. I hope visible birds replace the current statistical bird strike system.
  5. If you download and install a module you don't own, you can get the soundtrack to play at the main menu. It doesn't actually ask for product activation until you try to start a mission. This should be obvious to anyone who has installed one of their own modules and clicked "set wallpaper" before flying. As for the OP, if they make an ASM for the F-15C, I assume it would be a separate product from both FC3 and the current standalone F-15C (though there may be an upgrade version available like BS2).
  6. I would drive around in ground vehicles online, but most multiplayer servers don't have vehicle control active. Some servers with CA enabled put the ground stuff way too far apart. I have seen maps where it would take hours to get ground units to any of the objectives. I actually drove for 5 hours one time to capture an enemy airbase. Last time I joined a server as the ground forces commander, pilot players kept overriding my orders, so I quit. I would blame part of the inactivity on server operators and mission designers... but maybe they would not get much CA participation even if it was better? Single player with CA has been a better experience. (or maybe I just don't know how to find the right servers?)
  7. Two big indicators that it is fake: #1 The edited section gets washed out. fake things will usually be reduced quality to hide imperfections in the editing like rotated clouds not matching up. #2 The lighting angle rotates with the airplane as it climbs. There should be more illumination on the belly of the plane as it pitches up.
  8. I don't know if there is a hard altitude limit, but I managed to get the F-15C over 100000 ft. The main limitation is simply that the air is not thick enough for the airplane to fly higher. It might be interesting to build a custom EFM that does not lose thrust at high altitude just to explore the limitations of the current engine. Since EDGE has the capability for spherical earth maps, it may be possible to create an orbiter module, but floating point error could cause visible jittering at extreme altitude.
  9. It would be cool if it could dynamically scale LODs based on the number of objects loaded or the frame rate.
  10. I came here expecting to see: "I'm posting on my friend's account because he died in real life." Instead I got: "When is DCS 2.0.0 getting released?"
  11. That would be version 1.2.100
  12. The sub-variant is mentioned here: The final list of weapons available for the FSX version of this plane can be seen in the spoiler below. No confirmation for DCS on these yet. (the GBU-12 will require buddy lasing, and I think the LFR 4 is a rocket pod.)
  13. The most recent official update can be seen here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2152820&postcount=134 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2152839&postcount=136 It is from Wednesday.
  14. Do you mean the RAZBAM subforum or the F-15E subforum? The Mirage 2000 section just got an official update 3 days ago:
  15. Correct, here is another upload of the exact same video from March 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5j8FX8lMXE Maybe not representative of upcoming modules, but possibly representative of some of the capabilities that could be brought to DCS. In my opinion some of the latest EDGE screenshots look even better than the content of the Altwolf videos.
  16. If you want them just for free flying around, then get the FW-190 since you essentially already have a P-51. If you want it for combat, I would recommend getting the P-51. The FW-190 has terrible takeoff and landing visibility, is more difficult to steer on the ground, has larger cockpit frames, and the gun sight is not as good. Overall, the P-51 is more of a pleasure to fly, even though it is slightly less powerful. Tip for both planes: It is easier to land and takeoff with fully retracted flaps.
  17. The Super 530D is comparable to the AIM-7, so if the opponent has something like an AIM-120 you will be outclassed. The Mirage 2000C will have to stay pointed at the target since the missiles are semi-active, and it can't carry nearly as many missiles as the F-15 or Su-27. Against such opponents, you will either want to be as close or as far as possible, but not in between.
  18. Nice to see some official progress for DCS. I can't wait to see it in EDGE. Is this also the list of weapons that will be available for the DCS version? (in spoiler) ARMAT would be awesome.
  19. Every time I see the MiG-21 cockpit, I wish it was a different color. I might accidentally spill a bucket of gray paint everywhere before takeoff.
  20. Just wait for EDGE. It won't make it perfect, but it will certainly be a huge step in the right direction.
  21. If a 20 mm cannon variant of the Sabre is done, it should be the FJ-3 Fury. Carrier ops and aerial refueling for the win!
  22. On the 6:33 clip in that video you can see the roof of that building get launched up into the air.
  23. If we had a map with Britain, then we could simulate a civil war between England and Scotland. The premise is that Scotland passes the Independence Referendum, and England says no. The European countries quickly take sides between preserving the union or supporting the democratic choice of the people. World War 3 ensues.
  24. So if I can get this thing up to 88 miles per hour...
