Making DCS more accessible to new players.
MegOhm_SD replied to Vertigo72's topic in New User Briefing Room
Sure it takes Repetition until you dream about it. You have to put in the effort no matter the age. We haven’t forgotten how, we are just lazier. This is what it takes to achieve retention. I knew I was learning Organic Chemistry and Calculus when I was solving 10 page (front and back) equations in my dreams. That led to doing well and having recall in lectures and exams, where you see and hear it yet again. Same with anything you want excel in. If you want it bad enough You put in the time and effort. You figure most out for yourself by digging. Yeah... not spoon fed. -
Although I am not new to DCS, I watched your videos. I learned some things I did not know. So thank you for the effort and time you put into them. Stellar effort. Surely your videos will be appreciated by many who are new to DCS. <S>

Making DCS more accessible to new players.

@Vertigo. Please put your Doctorate to good use and write a “Hot to Map Controls, Including Comms” Guide for DCS. Should be a quick and easy task for an educated individual of your level of intelligence. -
Making DCS more accessible to new players.
MegOhm_SD replied to Vertigo72's topic in New User Briefing Room
This is all pretty funny. Most new to the sim only need basic mappings to get started. Lets see... pitch, roll, trim, rudder, throttle, flaps, brakes, fire gun, release weapon. Click in cockpit for rest then map more later as you learn and need. There is nothing so hard about mapping. Any gamer that has played a few titles has faced mapping controls before. This is no different. Even my 7 year old Autistic grandson can do it. As for the rest of the arguments, there are plenty of Experienced Users here willing to help “newbies”. All they have to do is ask. This happens everyday. Threads like this turning into hundreds of posts of arguments is just tedious. -
Leave as is.

Yes for the P38!

I wish Tank Farms and Train Tank Cars would blow up like they should. Now tanks burn a little, go out and blacken in a funky mis-shapened way. I haven't seen Train tank cars blowing up or burning lately. I could be wrong, but I don’t believe they do. They didn’t last time I tried. But maybe my gunnery was off. I remember flying the A10C when it first came out to El-Hotovo on a custom Train killing mission. We took out the tank cars and they blew up nicely. In MP, both host and client could see the trains. We know there are issues with clients seeing trains today. Hopefully, that will be fixed soon on all maps. Some appropriate explosions with long lasting black smoke columns would certainly help immersion. it is oil or petrol in those tanks right?

Same in Channel map. I remember way back when the A10C came out we had MP missions with trains as targets. The Tank cars would blow up nicely when hit. No issues then for clients. Something changed. Would love to see this fixed.

So if we had this...some would use it and some would not. I really do not care one way or the other. Why should those who do not want it care if it is there and someone uses it? Do they believe pilots would use easy mode and lie about it? Who cares... But of course MP servers that are hard core would just disable it. So the realism hardcore Pilots would never experience it or fly with those that do. So how would it affect them...that’s right...it wouldn’t.

Yeah...just name them after ex-girlfriends

Left-alt-F9 does work for me. Left-alt-C gives you the cursor but I don’t believe the buttons actually do anything yet? No problem getting Hornet Ball...when I use proper comms and on glide-slope. Have you looked at the manual? https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/dcs_supercarrier_operations_guide/

Appreciate the update... tweaking goes on in OB which is fine. Although the pit lighting was less than bright in daytime, which is fine by me cuz usually don’t need it in DT, the modules I fly looked great at night. As well as external lighting. I am sure it will all be tuned in due time. I just hope they don’t regress to much with that. Sure makes spotting easier day and night. But Hey, If people are termed “Fanbois” for being positive, supporting ED and saying so...I suppose that labels the disgruntled as “Fangoils”. Or just “FanGurls”, cuz they don’t appear to actually be fans at all. Maybe aliens, I dunno. I don’t actually mind being labeled as such as I remember the old days and how far ED has taken us. Pretty amazing if you look back in time. So many things we wished for back then are here. So thanks ED, please continue. And to BIGNEWY & NINELINE, you guys do a great job, keep up the good work. Appreciated. Megohm aka “Fanboi” Sheesh I think I will paint that on my F18 CAG skin.

Errr...maybe too bright but Thought taxi lights were forbidden at night on carrier. You don't want to blind deck crew.

I don’t know the answer...but Has anyone said the map is not expandable?

For Rift S, Quality Ear Buds solves the Audio issue. Never had an issue with the Mic. Also, I have had no tracking issues. I find it much better than the CV1.

That might be cool... Would also be nice if the grades appeared in the Pilot Log Book, at least the last 10 or so. Just saw the Logbook option in Wish List. Good.

Why I am not going to be buying this beautiful map anytime soon...
MegOhm_SD replied to Shadow KT's topic in DCS: The Channel
I will take all the maps I can get. The Channel and Normandy maps were not combined for obvious reasons. But I guess you don’t combine them. Instead, you flesh out the English side (Or more) in the Channel map. Being separate certainly does not justify not buying it for me. Since the OP felt compelled to tell everyone he will not buy in protest, I am feeling compelled to tell all The P47 and the Channel Map has been happily added to my account. Nice that another part of the world is available! And no, not struggling with my old system. Runs fine. I guess “the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few”. -
Yep...wow.. I just saw the pricing... Maybe one day they will have a "consumer" model people can actually afford with ground breaking resolution.

First I have heard of VARJO was in todays 5/29/2020 Weekend Newsletter. What does this mean for us? Can we get some info from ED about VARJO with DCS? http://www.varjo.com/
