  3. On the subject of vapour trails I was always amazed by the implementation of the effect in Flanker 2. Not only it was of perfect thickness, it also lacked incorrect low-speed puffs (still present far too often in DCS) and how the high velocity flow was conveyed was from another world. Coincidentally it was free of issues manifesting in movement rate changes and direction reversals. Rock $&#ng solid! My harsh opinions on Lock On and early DCS graphics were in large part due to my prior exposure to Flanker 2 and Free Falcon project.
  4. Could you please share the STL files for those?

  6. Hi! What's the status of the project?
  7. Now would you look at that! Nope, this isn't it. To be honest I don't understand what this is which tells me it's not THE solution I'm looking for. !!! Multiple Buttons Simple and Cheap - multiple Shift Registers - article by TheAlmightySnark https://forums.mudspike.com/t/buttons-and-you-simple-and-cheap/2994 This is it! 8. In my opinion the RWR is the most important leverage the F-5E has in combat scenarios. I recall duels against my buddy in an F/A-18C. The RWR was my only hope, every time. Any serious discrepancies in the operation of the system are, in my eyes, unacceptable.
  9. Which RWR threads sums the issues best in your opinion? I keep hearing about it but since I don't do combat it hardly affects me. I got those two https://forum.dcs.world/topic/297995-rwr-search-mode-not-behaving-according-to-manual/ https://forum.dcs.world/topic/158723-rwr-not-showing-locked-radars-in-search-mode/ Also, add the symbols not updating while turning to the mix. Does anyone have a link to that thread. A guy cross-checked the operation of the RWR in DCS against a publicly available set of test questions for servicemen.
  10. Done with font matching. For me it's either Yu Gothic UI or Louis George Cafe - bold. Onwards with the throttle grips. But since it's controls I'm going to carry this over to my thread.
  11. I'll try to find the source article for this
  12. @Msiipola Yes, I discovered it yesterday by accident. Neither this forum OP nor the original DCS-BIOS github mention Skunksworks. Are there any resources for DCS BIOS setup with shift registers? Like this resource for example (that one is for FreeJoy) https://github.com/FreeJoy-Team/FreeJoyWiki/blob/master/eng/Connecting-buttons-to-shift-registers.md I'm preparing to wire my first ever panels and I'm kind of in the dark.
  13. So where we're at? Tires are out of the picture now? From my observations the initiation come from the engines. You may try a 100% MTOW with emphasis on YZ plane mass momentum (the biggest toys on pylons, then top up to 10%% MTOW with fuel). If the kick eases with that setup, then the kick has a physical source, e.g. the engines. Another case is throttle split RPM increase. Sorry for writing "do this" instructions like that but my rig is kind of out of order for now. I'm going to try to get my setup ready today.
  14. Back and forth smooth or a glitchy back and forth? If it's smooth it may be just to compensate for the lack of airframe-gear assembly deflection in DCS (lack of the visualisation). RL Swiss F-5E https://youtu.be/ohGpGzCIS08?t=192
  15. After reading some more I guess my question should be "How to use shift registers with DCS-BIOS?" Interestingly "shift register" is nowehre to be found in DCS-BIOS documentation. Neither is the information on discontinuation of the project and the new-new fork https://github.com/DCS-Skunkworks/dcs-bios
  16. This link is dead. It returns 404 error.
  17. @Bcamel1 Have you got any references for dimensioning of throttle grips? Sheet metal or 3D print - it would be great to rely on a starting point.
  18. It may well be that the source is the tire contact issue but don't you guys think it's suspicious how consistently this happens around 80% engine RPM? Either way the only thing I'm after is getting it fixed so getting it pulled to the ED's issue tracker
  19. What do you mean by more relevant? A 100% match? I'd like that too as well but in my opinion the Yu is very very close. I'm going to check 2 others later in the day. As for the production of the panels I'm still debating printing the entire panels and cover plates vs: A. Not printing the layers with labels and replacing them with laminated paper print. B. coverplate as a sandwich in the form of sheetmetal-printedbevel. Then switch plate in whatever, sheet metal or acrylic/policarbonate. As obviously the embossing of a sheet metal is not a production process suitable for home workshop. Here's the svg test file I'm using for quick trials. Remember to try various "boldness" levels and that in inkscape for a font you need to have Fill set to color and Stroke to NONE. Then again, you can use stroke options to achieve interesting effects, like easing of sharp corners or bolding the font up in a controlled manner. http://font-alphabet-styles.blogspot.com/2011/11/century-gothic.html https://www.fontsplace.com/twentieth-century-medium-premium-font-download.html SIMPIT F-5E FONT TEST.svg
  20. Here are the timestamps in the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0v57kIAGmc 2:04 to 2:10 two kicks, not resulting from any pitch, roll, yaw or camera input. This can be replicated even with bare keyboard configuration. Same moments in the bug engine force kick 2023-09-18.7z track file: T130.xxx to T134.xxx same two kicks
  21. When I'm looking for a font I always go through the ones actually available in my system or Inkscape. It often saves a lot of hassle. I found a font that may not be perfect but it's closer to the original than Arial. Gothic-like fonts are certainly the way to go. Here you can see the original (pixelated, from the cockpit textures) vs Yu Gothic UI vs Arial. Why Yu Gothic UI is still not perfect. The original font differs in that oval letters in the original font like O and G are even closer to a regular circle (wider) and the non-oval letters and letters that are not M, W etc. are narrower. In short, the original has wider O, G and even narrower R, S, T, H etc.

  24. Hi! I'm preparing to put together my very first simpit project. Any recommendations with regard to project organization? Goals: 1. Small but DCS-BIOS-ready F-5E left console + weapons panel + fuel control panel 2. Low-cost. I don't mind extra soldering. 3. Organised into 4 modules at the beginning. The entire left console as one module. 4. Preference: buttons on flight controls managed by FreeJoy References: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/161441-generic-dcs-bios-panel https://forum.dcs.world/topic/310930-maximising-the-use-of-arduino-nanos-max-switch-connections-possible/ https://github.com/dcs-bios/dcs-bios.github.io/blob/master/docs/v0.2.5/userguide.adoc#connecting-your-first-panel EDIT: Homing in... https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/1375vhv/home_cockpit_crew_dcs_bios_or_arduino_as_a_hid/ https://forum.dcs.world/topic/185244-cockpit-electronics-quotecosystemquot-selection/ https://forum.dcs.world/topic/118288-dcs-bios-discussion-thread/page/28/ !!! 25. Thanks for taking the time to look into it.n! The actual airframe move is almost negligible in magnitude (although it is in fact an infinite acceleration glitch). The actual issue is how it affects the FPV camera. The result is a glitch appearance you'd only expect in a multiplayer session. Not to waste your time I'll get back to you with exact time stamps of FPV glitches instead of the underlying smaller airframe glitches that are harder to spot.
