  1. On one hand I would also like to see a bit more interaction between the host and the audience, it's what makes the "live" stream different from a simple video imho, but on the other hand I can understand that it's probably not so easy to fly a sim while talking to people and also reading the chat (and it would look awkward with the TrackIR every time he'd turn his head to read the chat). Not to mention that at least half of those messages in chat were "what are his PC specs" But I liked the live Q&A during the test stream more than the "10 for the chairman" style in the last stream. Still, it's alright as it is, much better than an occasional newsletter. Although I think they had to do something to calm everyone down after the last one 'cause a lot of pitchforks were sharpened
  2. Looking very nice! Thanks a lot!
  3. It would be nice feature but even if it's not supported you can always make a symbolic link even between different HDDs in Windows. I use it all the time. The trouble would be if DCS would not follow the link but so far it works well for things like missions - links work fine. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/ /OT
  4. Great stuff, but may I please suggest a b&w printer friendly version without the background image and the huge black boxes on the last page ? I would suggest to make them standard black text on white background please.
  5. I actually asked Matt this question in the short Q&A before the live stream and he replied that it is on the to-do list but it will most probably not be a part of the initial release. Still it's good news that it's being planned at least. :)
  6. Hi, I'm currently flying only with DCS and X-Plane. I'd like to ask if in your opinion it's worth switching from X-Plane to Prepar3D. I like X-Plane and I spent some good money on it already but the glacial speed of development and a lack of content for it is a bit frustrating. So I was looking at Prepar3D as a possible candidate to replace it to fulfill my civil aviation flying needs. Though I'd like to ask here you guys first as even the initial investment in the platform itself is $200 plus if I switched I would for sure like to buy some addons as well. I think Prepar3D is still 32 bit only correct ? Is 64 bit planned ? How is the FPS and stability of Prepar3D ? Is it being actively developed and supported ? How is the compatibility with existing FSX addons and addons in general ? Are they being properly supported and developed in your opinion ? Is there something important missing in Prepar3D in your opinion ? One more thing. I disqualified FSX from my considerations for a new platform because I think it's dying and not worth the investment anymore. It's already 10 years old, not being developed anymore and even the company that is selling the FSX:SE said that they will not be developing the platform into the future. PS: While browsing the Prepar3D license overview page I found that we are apparently forbidden to be entertained by it, but hey, I can always say I'm learning right ?
  7. Well I wouldn't hold my breath for the f18 just yet. The screenshot is probably in-game, true, but the important thing is the development of all the internal systems. If you check closer you can see that all the dials are dead, there are no needles, no displays. But who knows if this is because the systems are not modeled yet or because they were simply not hooked up to the cockpit animations yet. I hope it's the latter :-)
  8. Don't brush your teeth while driving, it's dangerous :megalol: btw: How about creating a countdown for the live stream ? With it everyone will see how much time is left and spare us the timezone calculations ? And just put the countdown link to the event announcement in the first post so everyone can see it. http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/create
  9. Would ED really press the copyright claim ? Wouldn't the person uploading the video just pretty much be promoting their game for free ? It's not like they make their money off youtube videos.
  10. There is no axis control for speed brakes in A10C afaik. But there are multiple things you can do here in the X52 software. I have X52 as well and what I did was to set the, in my opinion otherwise useless, mouse XY mini joystick to bands mode and then set the top and bottom bands to keys like [ and ]. Leave the center band empty. Then in DCS simply bind [ and ] keys to extend/retract speed brakes and voila - you now have a nice speed brake control on your throttle without wasting any buttons or hats. I also set the "mouse click" button next to the mini joystick to a key combination that I use to re-center my headtracker. Also what I can recommend is to set in the X52 software the FireD button as CTRL for example. Doing this will waste you one button on throttle but it will vastly increase the number of things you can bind directly to your hotas in DCS now because now you can do things like "CTRL+HAT_UP" etc. giving you effectively twice as many controls available to you to bind ready at your fingertips. No need to switch the X52 mode with the rotary or clutch for example to get more controls. Also I would recommend disabling the clutch button in the driver. It's just a waste of a button that can be better used in my opinion. If you do that the clutch functionality will be disabled but you will still be able to switch modes using the rotary on the stick. I never use that though myself. But I guess it depends on personal preference and how you like to have your hotas configured. edit: I attached my X52 DCS profile so you can see how I did it - just unzip it and load the profile into the X52 software. It might also be a good idea to save your current profile before you do that as I have also other custom things set in that profile that you might not want so just check it out how it's done and then customize your own profile to your liking. Cheers. DCS.zip
  11. You can try the mig21 meanwhile. The f18 seems to still have a long way to go so I wouldn't hold my breath just yet but the mig21 is actually quite a lot of fun. /OT
  12. No, your modules will be updated to DCSW 2.0 as well.
  13. Well, according to that link : 1) "feature complete" release is actually usually called beta 2) the fact the DCS is constantly evolving platform and I assume that new features will be added even after the release, as time goes by, this naming system makes even less sense to me. But meh, I guess, call it whatever just release it already please :music_whistling:
  14. I'm pretty sure it just means that we will be able to have multiple players within one group, that's all. As right now if you want to create a mission for 4 A10C players for example you have to literally create 4 A10C groups, create separate waypoints for each group, triggers, etc. Having the ability to put multiple players within one group in mission editor is nice step forward. It will make mission making simpler.
  15. I suppose they mean multiple players in one flight. Now it is possible to have only player+ai wingmen in one flight. each player needs to have separate flight (=group) at this moment.
  16. Any progress on the strait of hormuz map (or other maps:-)) or is everyone working on wrapping up nevada now ? Personally I'm not that interested in nevada map tbh. Sure I'll buy it just to support ED and fly somewhere else than Georgia but nevada looks so boring to me. It looks like mars surface :-) The price is fine. Just to put it into perspective it's like an airport scenery for x-plane. edit: damn, I posted this into wrong thread. I meant to post it into the newsletter thread.
  17. Yeah, the remake is great. I'm now in the part of the game when you fly to Germany so I did not finish it yet but I think it's very well done. The original is a bit too retro for me so I'm glad they made this remake. On a similar note for the classic adventure fans out there - they are also making a Neverhood sequel called Armikrog : http://store.steampowered.com/app/334120/ It also looks great so far. I like the fact that they are going to make it all out of plasticine again. edit: I hope it's going to have a soundtrack as epic as Neverhood had :-)
  18. Hey, anyone remember this classic old point and click adventure ? I remember playing this some 17 years ago or so (gosh!:-)). But today I discovered that they actually made a remake with new graphics and voice overs. So I immediately picked it up and it looks quite nice. Although after the years I don't remember much of the story anymore (only that it's a great voodoo mystery murder investigation adventure taking place in New Orleans) I remember it being, alongside with the first Broken Sword, the best adventure game I ever played. This has more mature tone than the first BS which was more lighthearted. So since DCS has more mature audience I thought I will leave this here. Perhaps it will interest someone around here as well : http://www.gog.com/game/gabriel_knight_sins_of_the_fathers_20th_anniversary_edition
  19. Also don't miss Chuck's MiG-21bis Guide - it's very well done : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2398154&postcount=1
  20. Mine was probably F/A-18 Hornet Korea. It was a blast! :pilotfly:
  21. You should try :smilewink: From recent releases I can recommend Pillars Of Eternity.
  22. Am I the only one who thinks that the new Fallouts suck ? I think that the transition into 3d hurt the game play a lot. I loved Fallout2 and played it many times with many different characters. F3 and Vegas I didn't even finished. I wish they made a proper 2d/iso Fallout again. With much less graphics a much more dialog and characters and story and locations and scale and much more rpg.
  23. I wouldn't say it's necessary. Especially for A10C. I was quite happily flying A10C, BS2, even P51d and other modules for years without pedals without any problems and in the end I got pedals with yoke for xplane :-) About good joystick - yeah I can totally recommend my x52pro but again - I flew A10C for more than 2 years with only logitech 3d pro. With x52pro it's much better, no question about that, but I would say the sim is still very enjoyable even without expensive gear. Lastly the trackir. This is the most important thing in my opinion. But personally I use FaceTrackNoIR with point tracker plugin and it works just fine. And it cost me about 20$ all together to get all I needed for it. I guess I'm just trying to say that you don't really need all of the most expensive stuff out there to enjoy the sim. But if you got the money then sure - go for it. edit: Personally I'm saving my TrackIR money for Oculus when it comes out :-)
  24. I noticed when playing CA that once the unit is out of ammo it starts a 1 hour long reload countdown automatically. Still I would also like to know if there is a way to rearm somehow manually.
