I don’t know how software development works and I’m going to even claim I’m an expert either. If I did know I would probably not have needed to make this post. If someone on the ED’s software development team does know maybe they can tell us if its possible to roll out separate module updates?
-
The stable release has not had an update in 5 months, with the module updates and improvements (assuming) to be separate from the new lighting effects in the open beta why can’t we at least get something that does work pushed to stable. -For those that don’t understand what I was originally saying I’m not sure how much clearer I can make it.
-
With the the current state of the beta being almost unplayable is there any chance the next stable update could include all the module updates from the beta? Seeing as this new lighting update is not panning out for the beta and the stable version is now coming up to 5 months without an update, might be good to show some love for the stable release.

It’s a shame they can’t push all the airframe updates out onto stable and leave the new lighting on beta until it’s ready for release to stable. Having the airframe updates only would probably keep a lot of people happy without the cost to FPS or stability.
-
The best option is to all migrate over to the stable release.
-
With some luck this will become a feature soon.
-
Good info I did not know that, still be awesome to have both variants one day:thumbup:

It would be great to have this added as an extra detail to the already awesome sounds!

I think it might be to do with it mimicking the scale of the radar, because you can couple and centre the HSD, in the centre mode you get the same scale as the FCR, when coupled the zoom of the radar denotes the distance seen in the HSD. And I’m pretty sure our block of F16 modelled probably doesn’t do odd increments

Hi daveocean, The F16 is still early in production and there will be features added as it gets updated, the IFF hud function is not something I’m sure was/is a feature in f16 but I’m not 100% sure of this. The F18 is more feature complete than the F16 so if you are new to DCS then I would say starting with the F18 would be best as there are many people flying it with a lot of knowledge about the aircraft and systems. With regards to the IFF a lot is classified and the DCS interpretation is only based on what is know and is functional from open publications, this not to say that what is know isn’t accurate but can be hard to pin down on how it functions from module to module. Both the F18 and the F16 have manuals in the install directory of DCS so its worth reading through them, you will also find some amazing guides from “chucks guilds” just google him I’m sure you will find him really helpful as he’s covered most of DCS modules, all are free to download. Enjoy!

You can filter the surveillance tracks in the FCR using the UHF/VHF transmit switch, so you can see a better picture of what the radar actually picks up, cross ref with the HSD. This will become a little easier when they implement ghost cursors for the HSD.

Huge difference in VR performance from F-16 to F/A-18

I wonder if the TGP is rendering in the mfds even though there might not be one fitted? I remember in the past there was an issue with A10c doing exactly that and causing large frame issues. Might be worth investigating -
[W.I.P]TGP mode A/A not commanded to radar LOS

I also tried this and couldn’t get it to work, guess it’s a feature to be added? -
Just need an F16 Throttle with some of the engine controls under it, something the old thrustmaster cougar didn't have.
-
I know...
-
In the advanced axis tab in the controller assignments do you or have you inadvertently set any custom axis curves?
-
I think that when you click to remove the side stick it automatically removes the throttle as well, this would be a great option.
-
I am also getting this with the floodlights in the f16 cockpit, when I turn them on they are appearing only in the right eye. I have also seen this with aircraft external lights at night and at a distance.
-
This would be a nice feature, might as well add this to the throttle to toggle that on and off as well.
-
This is also happening with the flash light only showing in the right eye.
-
I would hazard a guess and say those figures from DCS determine detection range more than anything else. As mentioned by others RCS has little deterministic value (in sim) when trying to notch radar emissions or when perpendicular to the radar source.
-
The RCS in the real world would change with aspect, if you were trying to notch then you are presenting a side profile to the radar source, although now better hidden in ground clutter so this would offset its RCS to a degree. Nose on the f16 and the m2000 are probably very similar as well as side profile. Those rear fins are fairly big in size and being flat giving a good radar return. The difference would be when one or the other rolled showing plan form, the delta design on the m2000 would have a larger cross section than the f16 because of this. The question is does DCS account for this and do load outs effect the RCS returns? I would probably say not at this time given the arbitrary number for each airframe, which would mean that it would have no impact on plane aspect as the radar just sees a bubble of a particular size. Probably..

how do you note in VR the target coordinates sent by radio message ?

Use the DCS scratch pad https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=229077&highlight=dcs+scratch+pad you can copy from anywhere and dump it into the scratch pad that can be activated on any window in DCS by using Crtl-shift-x -
Go into the nvidia profile settings and use the frame limit setting it to 45 FPS this will stop the headset hitting ASW and will stop the sim FPS spiking causing micro pauses.
