I think we'll have to wait for DCS 2.0 at this point as they've made some adjustments to the Mig to better match Soviet data. I think we have what we have for now.

F-5E vs MiG-21: Soviet Test Pilot's Insight
Foul Ole Ron replied to ilya1502's topic in Military and Aviation
The experts just did a theoretical analysis and drew conclusions. The test pilots had proved those conclusions were wrong in separate tests and it looks like the recommendations to the Ethiopians were quietly changed as a result. -
DCS: Spitfire Mk LF IXc Discussion

Thread title is a bit of a misnomer. We're getting the Mk. IX only. -
DCS: Spitfire Mk LF IXc Discussion
Foul Ole Ron replied to Yo-Yo's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Would be great if we could get the standard wing as an option. The VEAO Spit XIV is going to be clipped wing as well so would be nice if one of them could get the iconic wing included as an option. -
Aimless Assumption: WWII Pacific from Leatherneck is Next
Foul Ole Ron replied to Zakatak's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Think they said August before they'll make a further announcement about what additional planes will be released in 2015. -
The latest update from the devs said that it would be released on Steam once the CC version is ready. No date for this - the devs said they're working hard to make this happen soon.

Project reality is a really fun MP experience. This looks like it'll be great. Definitely going to back this one. Can't go wrong with 50v50 online battles and they know how to make a game that rewards good teamwork and tactics.

[REPORTED] Dirty canopy prevents from seeing ennemy
Foul Ole Ron replied to Nooch's topic in Bugs and Problems
You can swap out the canopy for an older version that was clear. If you get Grizzly's cockpit mod there's a file in there that has the clear version - it's like the P51 with some scratches. You might have to do this every time there's an update to DCSW. A quick fix while we wait for Belsimtek to resolve anyway. -
Also Yo-Yo has confirmed that there's a problem with the Mustang's speed (or at least top speed). It's lower than it was at original release and lower than it should be.
-
Given the limited plane set that they're releasing it makes sense to have the most common historical match-up which would have occurred during that time frame. While I don't know about the Jug for the Mustang going up against a K-4 it most likely would have been a 72" Mustang from the 8th airforce. Otherwise we're getting an early '44 Mustang going up against a late '44 / early '45 K-4. That's not a massive problem for single player but if ED wants MP to take off they need to consider this kind of thing.

Thanks uboats - hadn't heard the term before. Had a look at some at training stuff and I think I get how it's done. Will give it a try later.

So finally getting around to learning navigation in DCS after getting the C-101. Thanks to Uboats interactive lessons I have a basic understanding of the TACAN, VOR & ILS systems in the C-101. Was wondering though what's the right way to tie the two systems together? The TACAN will lead me directly to the airfield but for ILS you need to fly in from the correct angle. That's obviously not a problem in clear weather but I made a test navigation mission with some horrendous weather and it would have been a lot easier to get down in one piece if I knew the correct procedure for navigating to and getting lined up properly to the runway.

I think you're better off waiting for CV1. The resolution, latency, etc. will be significantly better compared to DK2. Resolution in particular is going to be key for flight sims to pick out objects from further away - DK2 provides immersion now but it doesn't have the resolution unless you just want to fly around and enjoy the experience. If you're thinking that the $350 price tag is high I don't think you'll want to spend that now and then have to spend it all over again sometime this year to get the newer version.

Unfortunately the Bearcat didn't see action there either. It was out of front line service by the time that war started and the Navy preferred the Corsair for prop plane front line support. Vietnam with the French during the first Indochina war seems to have been it's first and only significant combat operation.

The file that needs to be changed to remove the over exaggerated smoke effects is in the link below: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=135195 The problem is that this is a shared file so the Sabre probably the wasn't taken into account when this file was changed a few versions back. If you rename this file there'll be no gun smoke at all and combat becomes playable again. As it's a shared file whatever else uses it for smoke also won't display but to be honest I don't notice any bad effects from removing it. You'll have to keep doing this removal after every DCS update. Hopefully EDGE will sort this problem out for good.

So it is.. yes you're right that version was post WW2. Think it was 1948. Will have 4x20mm cannon as well instead of the 4x.50 cal. Will still be a fun plane to fly around if nothing else.
-
Yeah I'm not saying it should be there - just I won't lose my mind if a MP server does include the Bearcat as the plane was operational before the war was over. For a pure historical mission server it shouldn't be there really but no harm otherwise as it's not a totally implausible inclusion.
-
Granted it never saw actual combat. VE Day wasn't the end of WW2 though. The first Bearcat squadron was operational by late May and WW2 wasn't over for the US until mid August.
-
There's a large difference between napkin design planes and and a plane which was fully operational months before the war ended.
-
Might not have seen combat in WW2 but it was operational by late May 1945 so it'll still fit in ok.

Obviously with my nickname I'm a fan. Read just about all his books after a friend introduced me to them when I was about fifteen. Genuinely gutted to hear of his death a few days ago. He was a great humorist and humanist and will be missed. R.I.P. DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING, said Death. JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.

Foul Ole Ron replied to NORTHMAN's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Little bit late now don't you think? Anyway as has been stated literally a million times DCS is multi-period. That's the current situation and the future road map - best you get used to it. -
If they have an agreement with Grumman I'm still hoping for the F4U. I would imagine they could knock out a WW2 bird quicker than a jet which would help keep the revenue coming in while they work on the Tomcat plus something else.

DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
Foul Ole Ron replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Great news about the Tomcat. Though it was pretty much a given after all the hints dropped. Looking forward to the news about the other planes. Still holding out hope one of them will be the Corsair. Is there any indication when the news about those planes will drop?
