He never said that .50 cals weren't a powerful weapon - just that the German armament is more powerful and effective overall. 6x.50 cals are a good anti-fighter weapon - there's no doubting that. Just that for the weight of them there was more effective weapons used by the Luftwaffe, VVS and RAF. Not being able to set the convergence is most likely correct as well - once the P51-Ds with the K-14 gunsights were issued there was 2 USAF harmonisation patterns used afaik depending on the tactical requirements of the mission (air-to-air or ground attack). With the earlier Mustangs like P51-Bs and fixed gun sights there's evidence of pilots playing around with convergences but not with the type that we have in game. The harmonisation pattern on the P51 in DCS is designed to score a scattering of hits around the cockpit and engine area at the right ranges. The question we have though is whether the hits or doing the right amount of damage. A .50 cal round is not an insignificant round and it doesn't seem to do the kind of damage you'd expect sometimes. If a 190 gets hit with 100+ .50 cal rounds it almost always wouldn't be flyable but it often can be in DCS. You can score a good critical hit at the right convergence range which will destroy a 190 with a burst or two but it seems like the other type of hits don't do much secondary damage to the plane like damage ailerons, elevators, etc. The 20mm hits from 190s could fall under the same category for me as well. But at this point we really need ED to weigh in with a response. We can only really see the number of hits in the AAR but it's not clear exactly what this means. Is it a unique hit of a bullet or if a bullet and / or fragmentation hits a number of areas does this show still as one hit or does it get counted multiple times? Only those with access to the code can really have a look and tell us if they think it's correct or if something might need amending. My gut feeling is that both .50 cals and 20mm are under-powered currently.

DCS WWII: 1944 FAQ Discussion
Foul Ole Ron replied to LostOblivion's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Also worth bearing in mind that at your $40 backing you're getting 2 planes and the Normandy map. For somebody who wasn't part of the KS that'll likely cost them $140-$150 depending on the price point for the map. So even if you're not getting the exceedingly good deal that RRG, unrealistically as it turned out, offered you're still getting a good deal overall. -
The elevator trim is a 2-way switch in the Dora. Won't really map to a rotary in your X-52 unless you split the rotary into bands i.e. 0-33% elevator trim down, 34-65% does nothing and then 66-100% elevator trim up. You could map them to an axis in the P51 as the trims in the Mustang were actual trim wheels and not switches.

DCS WWII: 1944 FAQ Discussion
Foul Ole Ron replied to LostOblivion's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
So go sue RRG if you want your money back. RRG took in and spent all that KS cash and then failed to deliver. Your argument is with them. -
In case you haven't seen it elsewhere make sure you have takeoff assistance set to zero and auto rudder off. Seems to be on by default. Makes takeoffs easier I found.

so they built them with no aileron and rudder trim
Foul Ole Ron replied to leafer's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Don't think the later marks had aileron trim. Test flight reports of the XIV only make mention of elevator and rudder trim and that the pilot needs to be careful with them as they're responsive and powerful. With things like extended climbs to 30k+ I imagine rudder trim would have been useful on any aircraft. Also useful to be able to set rudder trim for high speed attacks so the pilot doesn't have to worry about keeping the ball centred as much and put in the physical effort during a time he needs to focus on getting guns on target. Especially useful for ground attacks. -

Every mark of Spitfire had rudder trim installed. -
And P-51s started using 72" boost from June '44. So what's the issue with the two planes meeting on the terms that they would have during that period?

Foul Ole Ron replied to leafer's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
It'll stop the roll but the ball won't be centred so you'll be yawing through the sky generally. I've always found it strange they didn't at least implement rudder trim. All other airforces recognised it as useful to ease pilot workload during extended flight. Pilots who flew captured versions always commented on the absence as a negative trait. -
I like to fly both sides and definitely think that there should be an option for at least 72" boost in the Mustang. It would have been the more common match-up for the period. I don't think we need to worry about balance or the Dora being suddenly outmatched in all areas with 72" boost. Anyway we're ultimately heading towards the scenario where there should be 109s and 190s operating together performing their own roles.

Probably you were fighting against what the computer was trying to assist you with and it was making a mess of things overall? With it off all the inputs are from you alone so you're in full control.
-
Rudder trim being absent always seemed a strange design decision to me. It was something that test pilots who flew captured versions always commented on about the 109 and 190.

I don't care either way. I just can't change from the F86 music. Or stop my feet tapping when it plays.

I think if you go to the module download page you can get all the individual modules you need: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/modules/ Best to use the torrent links to get decent download speeds. As far as I know you can then use the key you have on Steam to activate the product on ED version as well though somebody can correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Thanks ED - appreciate the long hours somebody must have been putting in on this today.

DCS:WWII Backer rewards is now under an upgrade
Foul Ole Ron replied to taxman1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Personally I'm choosing to interpret radio silence from ED on this that they're very close to having it ready but can't guarantee it'll be ready either. If it's delayed a day or two past Aug 5th I'm sure I'll survive. I'm pretty sure that if ED were miles away from delivering the backers reward page they'd have told us. -
Weathered cockpit

Looks great. Prefer a little weathering myself so will definitely be downloading this once available. -

Yep some sort of a timeframe for the backer rewards page to be up would be good. If there's bad news about a delay just say it - these things happen and (most) people will deal with it. An ETA would be good for those who absolutely can't wait or whose reward levels don't entitle them to all the planes so they can still get in on the pre-sell 10% discount deal. -
Maybe you did what I did earlier - I hit the Dora with exactly 160 .50 cal rounds to very little effect so I sawed his tail off with my prop for a sort of win.

Think Belsimtek said they're looking at this already.

Was this in single player or multiplayer? I've only seen this issue in multiplayer so far and presumed it was more likely related to the server not sending the info back in time.

Isn't that the GAR-8 growl volume and not radar tone? Radar lock is just indicated by the light stopping flashing.
-
Has anybody else heard the sort of constant high pitch whine sound that kicks in once the fuel gauge drops to 10? Is that supposed to be there?

So is there any chance that somebody could have a word in the crew chief's ear and ask him to move the compass down to the right like in this F-86F-35: The flyboys going up against the Migs would be mighty appreciative...
